Sierra H Broadcasting and The BEAT 101.1FM are locally owned and operated by our partners U.S. Air Force Veteran Jay Brentlinger and Air National Guard Veteran Steve Szalay. Mr. Brentlinger and Mr. Szalay, both Captains, met while flying F 104 fighter jets at Luke Air force Base in Phoenix, Arizona in the mid 1950 s. Between the two of them, they successfully flew missions in Korea, Germany and throughout Europe. Our company name, Sierra H Broadcasting is a tribute to the bond our partners have and commitment they made to serve our country. Sierra H is aviator slang for SH*T HOT. This is military pilot s favorite all-purpose expression of approval, a term of excitement, joy and high praise. Sierra H Broadcasting salutes all Veterans past and present and continually thanks them for their service in protecting us!!

The Phoenix New Times has voted The BEAT as the BEST Hip-Hop Radio Station for 2011
Phoenix New Times Best Hip-Hop Radio Station - 2010 The Beat 92.7 FM and 99.3 FM //www.azthebeat.com Urban oldies? It seemed like sort of a weird idea when The Beat a quadrocast station made up of KNRJ 101.1 FM, K224CJ 92.7 FM, K257CD 99.3 FM, and K228XO 93.5 FM started bumping old-school R&B and hiphop in late 2008. Then an L.A. station picked up the format, making the Phoenix-bred format less of a novelty. There are a few solid stations for hiphop in town, but we really like the unique playlist on The Beat, built around hits from the golden age of rap and featuring such artists as Pac, Biggie, Dre, and Snoop. And, sure, we like a little Warren Hill, some Fresh Prince, and a little R. Kelly in there, too. The Beat is good-time music and always manages to make us smile as we flip by for a few seconds on a long commute.
