ADRIAN SCRASE ETSI CTO. Adrian Scrase is CTO within ETSI, having operational responsibility for all of ETSI s standards production activities. He has more than 35 years of experience in the telecommunications field, which includes 30 years of experience in standardization. He played a central role in the creation of the 3 rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and is responsible for the operations of the 3GPP Project Co-ordination Group. He heads 3GPPs Mobile Competence Centre (MCC) which is an International team of 20 experts who provide comprehensive support to the Project. He was also principally involved in the formation of the onem2m Partnership Project and oversees ETSI s support to that initiative. 2

SEBASTIANO TOFFALETTI Sebastiano Toffaletti is Secretary General at the European DIGITAL SME Alliance (www.digitalsme.eu). The Alliance is currently the largest network of digital SMEs in Europe representing about 20.000 companies in 18 countries. Sebastiano authored several articles and position papers on topics such as Intellectual Property Rights, Standards, e-skills, Net Neutrality and Cloud Computing. He serves as expert in several EU groups and task forces, such as the EU Multi-stakeholder Platform on ICT Standardisation and the EC WG on Patents and Standards. He is currently also chairman of the Working Group on SMEs at ECSO, the European Cyber-Security Organisation (www.ecs-org.eu). In 2014, Sebastiano was elected member of the ETSI Board. ETSI (etsi.org), the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, produces standards for key global technologies such as GSM cell phone system, 3G, 4G, DECT, etc. From 2005 to 2013 Sebastiano worked at NORMAPME, the organisation supported by the European Commission for SMEs in standardisation. He joined the organisation as a Project Manager in 2005. Since then, he contributed to the development of the organisation that achieved to double its budget and the number of funded SME experts. From 2010 he served as Director. Prior to 2005, he worked for VOLVO as sales engineer for trucks. Sebastiano holds a Master s Degree in Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering from the University of Bologna. He speaks fluently English, French and Spanish besides his mother tongue Italian. 3

JOCHEN FRIEDRICH Jochen Friedrich leads IBM s Technical Relations Europe team which is part of the corporate IBM standards and open source strategy organisation. He is responsible for coordinating IBM s standardisation activities in Europe as well as for standardisation policy, technical regulation and compliance engineering. Jochen Friedrich started his career in IBM at the Scientific Centre Heidelberg in 1998. Since then he has held several lead positions in Research and Development. In addition to his IBM responsibilities, Jochen is a member of the ETSI Board, of the Executive Committee of Ecma International, and is a member of the DIN presidential committee FOCUS.ICT, of the DKE Advisory Council on Technology, of the Standardisation Council Industry 4.0 and of the German Platform Industrie 4.0 working group 1. He also holds lead roles in European industry associations: He chairs the standardisation task force in OpenForum Europe (OFE), is chair of the standardisation working group in the German ICT association BITKOM. He is a member of a regional board of the German Association of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies (VDE). Jochen is a representative in the EU Commission's advisory group ICT Multi-Stakeholder Platform and in the Steering Committee of the Joint Initiative on Standardisation (JIS). Jochen is a Fellow of the Openforum Academy. ROBERT POCKNELL Robert Pocknell is chair of the Fair Standards Alliance, an association formed to promote fair, balanced and rational practices in the licensing of standard-essential patents within the FRAND policy debate. Mr Pocknell is also CEO of N&M Consultancy and has more than 25 years experience advising clients on IP matters. He has advised small and large companies, from SME s to multinationals, on patent licensing in the wireless industry for more than 17 years. He was a lawyer in private practice for 12 years before joining Sendo, the United Kingdom s first mobile phone manufacturer and developer of the world s first Microsoft smartphone. Mr Pocknell also spent two years as Intellectual Property Counsel at TomTom, the leading satellite navigation company. 5

TIM FRAIN Tim is Head of IP Regulatory Affairs at Nokia, focusing on intellectual property (IP) policy and legislation. He has 40 years experience of IP in the corporate environment and has a broad industry perspective, being actively involved in trade associations and professional organisations in the UK and at EU level. Tim is recognised for his active contribution in the policy debate surrounding standardisation & patents, including the topical issues of SEPs and FRAND. He actively participates in ETSI (the European Telecommunications Standards Institute) and ITU patent committees. Tim has also been closely involved in the proposals for a Unified Patent Court in Europe. He represented industry on the Expert Group of Judges and Lawyers which advised the European Commission, and is a member of the Expert Panel advising the UPC Preparatory Committee. 6

BERNHARD THIES Dr Bernhard Thies is Chairman of the Board of Directors of DKE the German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies of DIN and VDE, German National Committee of IEC and CENELEC. Moreover he is Vice-Chairman of the EEBus Initiative, a network of leading companies, associations and stakeholders in the German and international energy, telecommunications and electrical industry in order to open up the new market of smart connectivity. Dr Thies is Vice-President of the IRIEA International Robotics and Intelligent Equipment Industry Alliance (former AMA), (China), the international institute engaged in providing professional training and consulting services for the organizations and the individuals in China. Since many years, he also gives lectures at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen (RWTH Aachen). Dr Thies studied at the RWTH Aachen where he also obtained his doctorate. His last position in industry (1999) was President of the ABB Traffo BB Gmbh, specialized in power, distribution and transformers. His standardization career in VDE started in 1999. Dr Thies is President of CENELEC since 1 January 2016. 7

CHRISTEL DAVIDSON Since February 2016, Christel Davidson is the Director of Small Business Standards, the European association representing and supporting SMEs in the standardisation process. She has twenty years experience in EU Affairs, primarily in sustainibility. Prior to SBS, she worked for various trade associations, such as EuroCommerce and UEAPME, and environmental NGO namely Birdlife International. Christel Davidson holds a DES in environmental sciences (ULB) and a university degree in Business Administration (ICHEC). 8

CHIARA GIOVANNINI Chiara Giovannini works for ANEC since 2002, first as Programme Manager and presently as Senior Manager, Policy & Innovation. Apart from deputising for the Secretary General, she leads ANEC s works on Accessibility and Digital Society and is responsible for horizontal and strategic policy issues. Prior to working for ANEC, Ms. Giovannini worked at Swiss Consumers Organisation. She holds a master degree in European Law. Ms Giovannini represents ANEC at high-level events, committees and research Advisory Boards. ANEC is the European consumer voice in standardisation. ANEC defends the European consumer interest in the creation of technical standards and European laws and public policies making use of standards. 9

CHRISTOPH WINTERHALTER After studying computer science at the University of Karlsruhe Winterhalter started his career at ABB. After assignments in Norway, USA and Germany he took over the business units robot automation and robotics products. In 2010 he became director of the German Research Center of ABB until he was promoted global Product Group manager heading ABB s global Machinery Controls and Automation business and later Hub Business Manager Control Technologies. Since July 2016 he is Chairman of the Executive Board of DIN. 10
