TRIBUTE TO JULES VERNE S 185 TH ANNIVERSARY Like master watchmaker Louis Moinet, Jules Verne was a pioneering icon of the 19th century. While Moinet is a horological legend, Verne is considered to be the father of science fiction and today, February 8th, marks the 185th birthday of the French author. To celebrate the occasion, we invite you to view our video about Jules Verne and his classic novel «Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea». This famous novel and its protagonist Captain Nemo were the inspiration behind Louis Moinet s Jules Verne Instrument III a high-precision chronograph that might have been the perfect timepiece on the Captain s wrist during his voyages in his submarine the Nautilus and confrontations with worlds unknown. JULES VERNE III LMV-30.20.50
Since its launch last year, Louis Moinet s Jules Verne Instrument III has become one of our most acclaimed timepieces. The inspiration behind this stunning chronograph is Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea, the classic novel by 19th century French author Jules Verne, whom many consider to be the father of science fiction. The novel s hero Captain Nemo chooses voluntary exile from human society to sail the oceans aboard his Nautilus submarine. The Jules Verne Instrument III is the perfect precision instrument for Captain Nemo and who better to explain why than Jean-Michel Verne, a direct descendant of Jules Verne. 1. Technologically original a monopusher chronograph Jean-Michel says: Jules Verne Instrument III offers an inventive monopusher with an aquatic look to it. Its case is made from gold and titanium or titanium and stainless steel, with chapter rings on the dial contrasting superbly against the dark grey guilloched dial. The monopusher set into the crown ensures that activating the chronograph functionality is quick and simple. 2. Unique function indicator (patent pending) Jean-Michel says: The distinctive chronograph indicator signals which function has been selected: start, stop or reset. Its design is inspired by the famous Chadburn telegraph transmitters on historical ships. Its use on a watch is really quite special and is the subject of a patent application.
3. Ceramic ball bearing, the technological nec-plus-ultra Jules Verne Instrument III has a precision movement, signed Louis Moinet. A machine that beats at 4 Hz (28,800 vph) and is powered by an openwork rotor mounted on ceramic ball bearings. This technology provides maximum winding performance while improving shock resistance and reducing the level of intrinsic noise, explains Jean- Michel. 4. A design inspired by Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea Jean-Michel says: When my ancestor published Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea in 1869, it was a visionary, scientific adventure as well as a major work of fiction. To make Jules Verne Instrument III, Louis Moinet has drawn directly on this imaginary world, offering a contemporary version of Captain Nemo s timepiece. The very technical dial evokes the Nautilus, itself a technological marvel. The watch s strong colours gold, titanium, dark grey or steel contrast with the structured universe of its milled applied indexes and hexagonal head screws. The materials used are at the cutting edge of technology: Grade 5 Titanium, the only grade conducive to highquality polishing, makes for a high-tech, lightweight case. The rubber strap, soft, comfortable and waterproof is the perfect choice for such an aquatically-inspired timepiece.
