ASSEMBLING & INSTALLING OLIN PENDANTS Trulux Olin fixtures are recommended for new construction installation, or when adequate space is available for direct access above desired mounting location. Olin pendant kits may be suspended from traditional drywall and drop-down panel ceilings. Power supplies must be installed in a remote location in certified housings or junction boxes. Tools & materials required for Installation Utility Knife Soldering Iron / Soldering Wire Cable Cutter (Dikes) 22-Gauge Electrical Wire Wire Strippers Power Drill Straight-Cut Tin Snips (5/32) & (23/64) Drill Bits Miter Saw / Hacksaw Phillips Head Screwdriver (2.5mm) & (3mm) Allen Key STEP 1 - Determine Pendant Length Available in 1M, 2M, and 3M sizes, Olin Pendant kits may be cut to custom lengths. When doing so, take into consideration of cuttable areas on Trulux Spec Grade tape light (every 1.97 ). To fully optimize use of tape light and to reduce any gapping, (5/8 ) spacing is required on both ends the of extrusion for soldering tape light connections. STEP 2 - Cutting Tape Light & Extrusion Once the length of the pendant has been determined, begin by cutting the tape light to the appropriate length for the size of fixture. The tape light must be cut on the indicated cutting increments while factoring additional (5/8 ) spacing needed on both ends for soldering. The Olin extrusion will also need to be cut down to size using either a miter saw or hacksaw. When using a miter saw, slowly cut the extrusion to avoid any chipping and let the saw blade come to a complete stop prior to lifting the saw blade. Doing so will result in a much cleaner extrusion edge. Recommended cutting increments for each Olin pendant kit sizes as follows: 1M Olin Pendant: 37-3/8 - Spec Grade Tape Light 38-5/8 - Olin Extrusion 2M Olin Pendant: 76-3/4 - Spec Grade Tape Light 78 - Olin Extrusion 3M Olin Pendant: 117-3/8 - Spec Grade Tape Light 118-3/8 - Olin Extrusion 12
STEP 3 - Prep the Tape Light for Installation Before applying the tape light into the extrusion, you will need to remove a light film from the conductive points on both ends of the tape light. Using the point of a utility knife, lightly scuff the positive (+24V DC) and negative (-) tabs on the tape light to ensure conductivity for soldering power feeds. STEP 7 - Cut and Install Lens Cover Measure the inner dimensions of the extrusion from one end cap to the other for the length of lens cover needed. Cut the lens by using a pair of straight-cut tin snips ensuring a clean cut. Once cut to size, snap one end of the lens and continue to press in the lens as you work towards the opposite end. STEP 5 - Solder Power Feeds Start by cutting two pieces of power feed wire to about (1 ) long and strip both positive and negative wire ends. Solder the positive wire to the (+24V DC) tab on one side of the tape, and the negative wire to the (-) tab marked on the opposite end of the tape light. STEP 8 - Measure Pendant for Ceiling Mount Spacing Once the Olin Pendant has been assembled, you will need to measure the overall mounting length. Measure eyelet to eyelet on the conductive end caps as this will be the spacing for installing the conductive ceiling mounts and where the fixture will hang. Conductive Ceiling Mounts (Pendant Length) STEP 4 - Install Tape Light Install the tape light by peeling the backing film and placing within the Olin extrusion. Start the run of tape light (5/8 ) from one end of the Olin extrusion. There should be a (5/8 ) gap on the opposite end of the extrusion once tape light is fully installed. This will allow proper spacing for the conductive end caps to be soldered to the tape light. STEP 6 - Solder Conductive End Caps Using the supplied conductive end caps (PE-OLIN-PWR-END), firmly press both end caps into Olin extrusion and solder the feed wires to the conductive tabs on both end caps. STEP 9 - Install Drywall Anchors Mark the location for the conductive ceiling mounts with the measurement from Step 8. Begin by drilling a (23/64) hole and Install the supplied drywall anchor and anchor bolt. Compress the drywall anchor by tightening the anchor bolt clockwise. This can be done with a power drill or standard screwdriver. Do not over tighten the anchor as it may damage the drywall. Once fully compressed or tightened, remove anchor bolt and discard. Repeat this process for any additional ceiling mounts needed. Continue to next page... 13
ASSEMBLING & INSTALLING OLIN PENDANTS CONTINUED STEP 10 - Connect Power Wires to Ceiling Mounts 24V power wire must be run to install location for both positive (+24V DC) and negative (-) conductive mounts. Drill a (5/32) pilot hole and feed power wire through the wall. Drill the pilot hole as close as possible to the drywall anchor to ensure a covered finish. Once the power wires have been fed through the pilot hole, crimp the wire to the conductive tab. We recommended that this connection be soldered as well to ensure connection. STEP 13 - Prepping Support Clips (2M & 3M Pendants Only) Our support clips come as a conductive support clip for custom installations when conductive end caps wont be used. However, for this installation we will need to remove the conductive tab. Start by unscrewing the stem from the clip itself. Remove only the conductive tab and place the stem back onto the clip and hand tighten. Do not over tighten as the screw may break. STEP 11 - Install Ceiling Mounts For the conductive ceiling mounts, place the conductive tab over the stem bolt and position the bolt so that the crimped tab will recess into the power feed hole in the drywall. Repeat this process for all conductive ceiling mounts. To install conductive and non-conductive ceiling mounts, tighten the stem bolt by hand until fully flush to the drywall. STEP 14 - Adding Support Clips (2M & 3M Pendants Only) For 2M & 3M pendants, additional support clips and ceiling mounts are required and must be spaced every 1M for applications longer than 2M. To install the support clip, simply clip on the support clip to the extrusion at the required spacing increments. Non-Conductive Ceiling Mount Non-Conductive Support Clip STEP 12 - Install Support Cable Using the supplied conductive cable (PE-SUSP-6), secure one end of the cable into each ceiling mount by tightening the set screw with a (3mm) allen key. Repeat process for all ceiling mounts. Support cable comes in (6ft) lengths and may be cut to size. Use a pair of cable cutters (Dikes) to cut support cable. (1M) STEP 15 - Suspend the Fixture (2M) Begin suspending the fixture by feeding the suspended cable into one end of the fixtures conductive end cap. Tighten set screw using a (2.5mm) allen key and repeat this process for opposite end cap. Tighten support clip set screw using a (3mm) allen key and repeat process for any additional support clips. 14

ASSEMBLING & INSTALLING OLIN SCONCES Trulux Olin fixtures are recommended for new construction installation, or when adequate space is available for direct access above behind mounting location. Olin Sconce kits may be mounted to traditional drywall and/or similar substrates. Power supplies must be installed in a remote location in certified housings or junction boxes. Tools & materials required for Installation Utility Knife Soldering Iron / Soldering Wire Cable Cutter (Dikes) 22-Gauge Electrical Wire Wire Strippers Power Drill Straight-Cut Tin Snips (5/32) & (23/64) Drill Bits Miter Saw / Hacksaw Phillips Head Screwdriver (2.5mm) & (3mm) Allen Key STEP 1 - Determine Sconce Length Determine sconce length desired - available in 1M, and 2M sizes. Olin sconce kits may be cut to custom lengths. When doing so, take into consideration of cuttable areas on Trulux Spec Grade tape light (every 1.97 ). To fully optimize use of tape light and to reduce any gapping, (5/8 ) spacing is required on both ends the of extrusion for soldering tape light connections. STEP 2 - Cutting Tape Light & Extrusion Once the length of the sconce has been determined, begin by cutting the tape light to the appropriate length for the size of fixture. The tape light must be cut on the indicated cutting increments while factoring additional (5/8 ) spacing needed on both ends for soldering. The Olin extrusion will also need to be cut down to size for best results. Recommended cutting increments for each Olin sconce kit size as follows: 1M Olin Sconce: 37-3/8 - Spec Grade Tape Light 38-5/8 - Olin Extrusion 2M Olin Sconce: 76-3/4 - Spec Grade Tape Light 78 - Olin Extrusion 16
STEP 3 - Prepping the Tape Light for Installation Before applying the tape light into the extrusion, you will need to remove a light film from the conductive points on both ends of the tape light. STEP 5 - Soldering Power feeds Start by cutting two pieces of power feed wire to about (3/4 ) long and strip both positive and negative wire ends. Solder the positive wire to the (+24V DC) tab on one side of the tape, and the negative wire to the (-) tab marked on the opposite end of the tape light. STEP 8 - Measure Sconce for Wall Mount Spacing Once the Olin Sconce has been assembled, you will need to measure the overall mounting length. Measure eyelet to eyelet on the conductive end caps as this will be the spacing for installing the conductive Wall mounts and where the fixture will be hung. Conductive Wall Mounts (Sconce Length) STEP 4 - Installing Tape Light Install the tape light by peeling the backing film and placing within the Olin extrusion. Start the run of tape light (5/8 ) from one end of the Olin extrusion. There should be a (5/8 ) gap on the opposite end of the extrusion once tape light is fully installed. This will allow proper spacing for the conductive end caps to be soldered to the tape light. STEP 6 - Soldering Conductive End Caps Using the supplied conductive end caps (PE-OLIN-PWR-END), firmly press both end caps into Olin extrusion and solder the feed wire to the conductive tabs on both end caps. STEP 9 - Install Drywall Anchors Mark the location for the conductive wall mounts with the measurement from Step 8. 17
ASSEMBLING & INSTALLING OLIN SCONCES CONTINUED STEP 10 - Connect Power Wires to Wall Mounts 24V power wire must be run to install location for both positive (+24V DC) and negative (-) conductive mounts. STEP 15 - Mount the Fixture Begin mounting the fixture by feeding the conductive rod into one end of the fixtures conductive end cap. Tighten set screw using a (2.5mm) allen key and repeat this process for opposite end cap and support clips if applicable. The sconce fixture may be rotated once installed. To do so, simply rotate the extrusion on both ends simultaneously in any direction for desired look or effect. STEP 11 - Install Conductive Wall Mounts Place the conductive tab over the stem bolt and position the bolt so that the crimped tab will recess into the power feed hole in the drywall. Repeat this process for the other wall mount. To install conductive wall mounts, tighten the stem bolt by hand until fully flush to the drywall. STEP 12 - Cut and Install Conductive Rod The conductive rod comes in a 1M length and will need to be cut down for installation. We recommend that the sconces be mounted no further than (8 ) from the wall to ensure proper mounting. The conductive rod may be cut to size with a miter saw or hacksaw. Once cut, install the conductive rod into the conductive wall mounts by tightening the setscrew with a (2.5mm) allen key. 18
