Flying Geese To create the flying geese in this quilt we used the corner triangle method. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the fabric on your 2 1/2" squares. Take your 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangle and place your first square wrong sides together on one of the sides of your rectangle and sew on the diagonal you drew. Trim seam allowance to 1/4" and press open. Repeat this same process with another 2 1/2" square to get one flying geese. (Diagram 1 ) DIAGRAM 1 Follow diagram to complete all your flying geese units. (Diagram 2) Thirteen (13) Eight (8) Six (6) Six (6) One (1) 8 1/2 x 14 1/2 rectangle from Fabric K Thirteen (13) 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 strips from Fabric K Fourteen (14) 2 1/2 squares from Fabric K One (1) 2 7/8 square from Fabric K One (1) 4 1/2 x 8 1/2 strip from Fabric K One (1) 4 1/2 x 10 1/2 strip from Fabric K One (1) 7 7/8 square from Fabric K Eight (8) 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 strips from Fabric L Twelve (12) 2 1/2 squares from Fabric L Six (6) 2 7/8 squares from Fabric L Six (6) Seven (7) Ten (10) Four (4) Four (4) Two (2) Two (2) Two (2) Eleven (11) 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 strips from Fabric M Two (2) 4 7/8 squares from Fabric M One (1) 4 1/2 x 6 1/2 strip from Fabric M Four (4) 2 1/2 squares from Fabric M Two (2) 2 1/2 x 10 1/2 strips from Fabric M Two (2) 1 1/2 x 8 1/2 strips from Fabric M Eight (8) 1 x 7 1/2 strips from Fabric M One (1) Half Square Triangles DIAGRAM 2 There are two different half square triangles in this quilt (2" finished and 4" finished) and we used the two at a time method to create the half square triangles.

Twelve (12) To create two half square triangles with Fabric M and Fabric I, take 4 7/8 x 4 7/8 squares from both fabrics. (DIAGRAM 3) Two (2) M I DIAGRAM 3 Six (6) Place on top with right sides together! Draw a diagonal line from one corner to the other. Sew on each side of the line you drew at 1 /4. (DIAGRAM 4) Eight (8) Four (4) Cut here DIAGRAM 4 Cut on your diagonal line. Press seams open. (DIAGRAM 5) Eight (8) DIAGRAM 6 DIAGRAM 5 You will need four (4) M/I, and eight (8) I/J HST's. Repeat this same process with your 2 7/8" squares to get twelve (12) I/L, two (2) I/K, six (6) I/C, and eight (8) I/F HST's. (Diagram 6) To complete the block in Section 2, sew a 2 1/2" square from Fabric J to each side of a 2 1/2" square from Fabric D. Repeat this step again to get two rows that look like Diagram 7. Sew your two rows to each side of a 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" strip from Fabric D. This will be the same process you use to create the three blocks in Section 7. DIAGRAM 7 Cut your 7 7/8" square from Fabric K on both diagonals. (Diagram 8) Sew your triangles to each side of your block and trim to 9 1/2". (Diagram 9) DIAGRAM 8

Follow the quilt assembly diagram to sew your sections together. Create a bottom and side border by sewing two WOF strips together and trimming the excess. DIAGRAM 9 To make the block in Section 6, draw a diagonal line on your 2 3/4" squares from Fabric I. Place on three of your corners and sew on the diagonal line you drew trimming to 1/4" seam allowance as you go. You should get a block that looks like Diagram 10.2. Repeat this process three more times and then sew your units together to get your block. (Diagram 11) DIAGRAM 10.1 DIAGRAM 10.2 DIAGRAM 11 Now that all of your units are put together it's time to start sewing the quilt together into sections. The quilt is broken down into nine sections. Follow the Section 1-9 diagrams to sew up each section.

QUILT ASSEMBLY Sew rights sides together. Place BACKING FABRIC on a large surface wrong side up. Stretch it with masking tape against that surface. Place BATTING on top of backing fabric. Place TOP on top of the batting with right side facing up. Smooth away wrinkles using your hands. Pin all layers together and baste with basting thread, using long stitches. You can also use safety pins to join the layers. Stop stitching before you reach the last 5 or 6 inches. Cut the threads and remove the quilt from under the machine presser foot. Lay the loose ends of the binding flat along the quilt edge, folding the ends back on themselves where they meet. Press them together to form a crease. Using this crease as the stitching line, sew the two open ends of the binding with right sides together (you can help yourself marking with a pencil if the crease is difficult to see). Trim seam to ¼" and press open. Complete the sewing. Turn binding to back of the quilt, turn raw edge inside and stitch by hand using blind stitch. Machine or hand quilt starting at the center and working towards the corners. Remember that quilting motifs are a matter of personal preference. Have fun choosing yours! DIAGRAM B1 Stop stitching here After you finished, trim excess of any fabric or batting, squaring the quilt to proceed to bind it. DIAGRAM B3 fold DIAGRAM B2 45 BINDING Sew rights sides together. Cut enough strips 1½" wide by the width of the fabric M to make a final strip 274" long. Start sewing the binding strip in the middle of one of the sides of the quilt, placing the strip right side down and leaving an approximated 5" tail. Sew with ¼" seam allowance (using straight stitch), aligning the strip s raw edge with the quilt top s raw edge. Stop stitching ¼" before the edge of the quilt (DIA- GRAM B 1). Clip the threads. Remove the quilt from under the machine presser foot. Fold the strip in a motion of 45 and upward, pressing with your fingers (DIAGRAM B2). Hold this fold with your finger, bring the strip down in line with the next edge, making a horizontal fold that aligns with the top edge of the quilt (DIAGRAM B3). Start sewing at ¼" of the border, stitching all the layers. Do the same in the four corners of the quilt. NOTE: While all possible care has been taken to ensure the accuracy of this pattern, We are not responsible for printing errors or the way in which individual work varies. Please read instructions carefully before starting the construction of this quilt. If desired, wash and iron your fabrics before starting to cut. 2017 Courtesy of Art Gallery Quilts LLC.
