ABOUT SciELO SciELO is an international cooperation program for the advancement of research communication; Main objective contribute to advance research and its communication; Specific objectives to maximize the availability, visibility, use, impact and credibility of nationally edited journals and the research they communicate; to improve the quality of the journals; to complement international bibliographic SciELO Program is led by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP).

SciELO IN THE OPEN ACCESS MOVEMENT SciELO is a pioneer program that inserted Latin-American journals in the Open Access Movement

SciELO NETWORK - EVOLUTION 20 years of regular operation 15 national collections Latin America, Spain, Portugal, South Africa You want numbers? ~1 000 active journals; ~52 000 docs per year ~650 000 total; ~1 000 000 downloads per day (COUNTER) only in SciELO Brazil. SciELO, 2017 IT IS A HUGE OPERATION!

SciELO AS AN OPEN ACCESS PUBLISHING MODEL SciELO was implemented and has been developed based on an Open Access publishing model that encompass three integrated functions: Indexing Continued evaluation of journals performance based on several criteria; SciELO operates a public available bibliometric metadata database of articles. Publication Storage, preservation, retrieval and publication of article full texts; Provision of online services for manuscript processing. Interoperation Metapublisher Sharing of content through data interchange and hyperlinks; Focus on the insertion of journals and articles in the global flow of scientific information.

SciELO PROGRAM LINES OF ACTION Established in 2013; Professionalization to produce journals according the state of the art; Internationalization insertion in the global flow of scientific information; Financial Sustainability mix of funding resources and low production costs. Expected results: Growing collections performance Increasing performance of journals

PROFESSIONALIZATION Since 2016, all SciELO Brazil journals make use of an online submission management tool. SciELO Criteria System must provide easy-to-obtain statistics on manuscripts: Submitted; Rejected without review; Sent to Associate Editors; Sent to Reviewers; Approved; Rejected (final); Also: Time between submission and final decision; Affiliation geographic data (for measuring internationalization)

PROFESSIONALIZATION ONLINE SUBMISSION SYSTEMS SciELO BRAZIL Systems not offered by SciELO 37% Systems offered by SciELO 63% 180 out of the 283 journals indexed in SciELO Brazil are currently using a submission system provided by SciELO (ScholarOne or OJS). SciELO provides full training and support for journals that use a system offered by SciELO. In the case of OJS, SciELO also provides infrastructure and software maintenance.

SciELO x PKP COOPERATION 2006 OJS is adopted for SciELO Brazil. 2009 OJS is adopted for SciELO Chile supported by SciELO Brazil. 2017/2018 SciELO Brazil joins PKP Technical Committee; SciELO s experience with OJS and other online submission systems will be used to enhance OJS, making it more competitive; SciELO s recommendations to be incorporated into the core of OJS; Collaboration on Texture development; SciELO to also contribute financially $30.000 yearly from SciELO Brazil, Chile and Mexico; Cooperation extended to other PKP products, such as OMP.

Mandatory publishing of article s research data, when applicable, using different data servers; Adoption of continuous publication Publishing is carried out as soon as the articles are approved and edited; Strengthen insertion of journals and articles in the global flow of scientific information.
