Art Studio Programs - 2017 Spring Schedule The Museum of Art Studio Programs exist to give our community access to creative learning opportunities. Through our programs children, teens, and adults are given the opportunity to learn a new skill or enhance existing knowledge while guided by a local professional artist. Have fun and be inspired to discover your inner creativity as you explore the world of art! Session One January 25, 2017 - March 4, 2017 Wednesday Homeschool Creative Enrichment #K101 10:00am-12:00 noon (Ages 5-7) Lesli Zerr, $50 This course is designed for children to engage in visual arts through several art mediums and to give students the opportunity to further explore the Museum of Art. The course will inspire your child to delve into their creativity through art while learning to work with others and to develop a sense of accomplishment through their personal creations. Wednesdays, January 25-March 1 Handbuilding #C101 1:30pm-3:30pm (Ages 16+) Lesli Zerr, $80 In this pottery class, you will learn to work with clay from start to finish using several pottery handbuilding techniques like pinch, coil, slab, and sculpting. The creative possibilities are in your hands! The use of the pottery wheel will not be available to students in class or during open studio. Wednesdays, January 25-March 1 Drawing & Painting the Portrait in Oils #P101 3:00pm-5:00pm (Ages 18+) Jean Wilkey, $65 Develop your ability to paint portraits by learning basic facial structure and skin tone and explore techniques for capturing a likeness and accurate values. It will begin with drawing and quickly move into painting. Students should have basic knowledge of how to use oil paints. Open to all levels of artists. Wednesdays, January 25-March 1 Youth, Afterschool Group Exploration #K102 4:30pm-6:00pm (Ages 8-15) Tiago Finato, $50 In this class, students will be driven by fun, imagination, and teamwork! Children will learn artistic and technical skills. The class will be centered around the artists developing their own vision to complete a project from planning to final piece. Sketching, painting and other techniques will be taught to inspire students to create a relevant and meaningful group project. Wednesdays, January 25-March 1
Session One, January 25, 2017 - March 4, 2017 Thursday Homeschool Creative Enrichment #K103 10:00am-12:00 noon (Ages 7-12) Lesli Zerr, $50 This course is designed to engage children in visual arts through several art mediums and give the students the opportunity to further explore the Museum of Art. The course will inspire children to delve into their creativity through art while learning to work with others and develop a sense of accomplishment through their personal creations. Thursdays, January 26-March 2 Figure Drawing & Painting #P102 2:00pm-4:00pm (Ages 18+) Jean Wilkey, $60 Learn the fundamentals of drawing and painting the human form. There will be a focus on accurate proportions, the emotions of the pose, and design of the shadow structure. The class will work both in drawing media and oil paint. Open to all levels of artists. Landscape Painting #P103 4:30pm-6:30pm (Ages 16+) Tiago Finato. $60 Learn basic acrylic techniques such as blending and layering, how to vary your brushstrokes, and more to achieve realistic landscapes. Learn how to paint landscape elements such as skies, clouds, mountains, and water for realistic landscapes complete with detail and light. Open to all levels of artists. Thursdays, January 26 March 2 Ceramics Intermediate/Advanced #C202 6:00pm-8:30pm (Ages 18+) Deborah Moore, $110 Experienced potters will learn advanced wheel, handbuilding, firing, and glazing techniques. This class will examine trends in studio ceramics, sculpture, and production pottery. Thursdays, January 26-March 2 Clay for Kids! #K104 4:00pm-5:30pm (Ages 8-13) Deborah Moore, $50 Explore the exciting world of clay! Budding ceramicists will learn the basics of manipulating clay to create a variety of functional and decorative pieces. Handbuilding, sculpting, and more will encourage every student to use their imagination! (non-toxic white clay used) Thursdays, January 26-March 2
Session One, January 25, 2017 - March 4, 2017 Saturday Mixed Media Layered Composition #M101 10:00am-12:00 noon (Age 18+) Deborah Moore, $60 This collage course is tailored to the artist interested in multidimensional art. It will teach the technique of art production by the overlaying of materials. It will incorporate drawing, painting, the use of paper, and many other objects. Students will use a variety of tools and materials to ultimately create three collage projects. Note: necessary materials will be supplied but additional personalized materials must be provided by the student. Saturdays, January 28-March 4 Ceramics for Aspiring Potters #C102 1:00pm-3:30pm (Ages 18+) Deborah Moore, $110 Geared toward beginning potters, this class offers a chance to explore a range of handbuilding techniques, wheel throwing, and glazing. At the end of the session students will have gained a better understanding and appreciation of the ceramic medium. Saturdays, January 28-March 4 Still Life Painting #P104 2:00pm-4:00pm (Ages 15+) Tiago Finato, $55 Discover your inner artist and creative passion through a step-by-step approach to producing a still life painting. Learn techniques including line, form, shading, and more. Students will be encouraged to find inspiration in life, landscape, and realism, and will have the freedom to practice in different mediums. Open to all levels of artists. Saturdays, January 28-March 4 Open Studio Times for Session One: Open Studios are for enrolled students only. No instructor is present. Students enrolled in handbuilding classes are not permitted to use the pottery wheel. Staff will provide facility help if needed. Wednesdays, March 22-April 26 Portrait Sculpting #S101 1:30pm-3:30pm (Ages 15+) Lesli Zerr, $70 Discover the unique experience that working with clay, hands on, can be achieved. This course will help the student learn to handle clay and become familiar with the method of building clay shape upon shape and blending it all together into a final piece. Learn techniques and perspective to develop personal drawing style. Students will learn how to bring together value, tone, scale, and simple composition to create a still life drawing. Open to all dry mediums (pencil, charcoal, pastel and more). Thursdays, March 23-April 27 Urban Sketch #D102 5:30pm-7:30pm (Ages 18+) Jean Wilkey, $60 Artists with beginner to advanced skill level welcome! This is an opportunity to draw the world around you for pleasure and skill development. Learn techniques and perspective to develop an individual approach to subjects of interest. Students will be encouraged to do daily drawings to gain accelerated improvement. This course will take place partly outdoors (weather permitting) and will use ink, watercolor, or other media as desired. Students will learn basic visual concepts using a wide range of materials and techniques while exploring their personal creative interpretations and styles. The young artists will be encouraged to be imaginative and create using mediums based on preference. Saturdays, March 25-April 29 Discover your inner artist and creative passion through a step-by-step approach to producing a still life painting. Learn techniques including line, form, shading, and more. Students will be encouraged to find inspiration in life, landscape, and realism, and will have the freedom to practice in different mediums. These numbers ensure that you will receive the individualized attention that you deserve. Registration: Please register for classes at the Museum of Nature and Science, Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Enroll early to assure your spot in the class! Supply lists: Lists will be provided for each class and unless noted, students are responsible for bringing their own supplies. All supplies for youth classes are provided.
