FREE TO THE PUBLIC Following Seas Productions proudly announces that their original theatrical adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson s TREASURE ISLAND will run at the on the beach at Belmont Pier Pirate Invasion as four acts on a festival schedule on June 29 and June 30, 2013. MORE-MORE-MORE Treasure Island is free to the public. General seating is available on a first-comefirst-serve basis. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or towel to sit on. The Belmont Pier Pirate Invasion is located at Belmont Veteran s Memorial Pier, located approximately at Allin Street between 39 th Place and S. Termino Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90803. Following Seas Productions original theatrical adaptation of Treasure Island is an action-packed buccaneer s epic about fortune hunting, daring exploits, and sailing the open seas as told through such iconic characters as the curious cabin boy Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver, a genial, but ruthless, one-legged pirate. After discovering a treasure map belonging to the salty old Billy Bones, Jim, and his friends, Doctor Livesey and Captain Smollett, unwittingly charter a ship crewed by Long John Silver s band of cut-throat pirates. As all seek their fortunes, a beautifully woven context of equality, trust, coming-of-age, and the uncertainty of morality emerges. Treasure Island is a serialized site-specific presentation of linked, yet independent mini-plays performed over the course of a day with acts that appeal to both allday festival goers interested is taking in the entire story, as well as those that are only able to participate in single play segments. The production will occur at the Belmont Pier Pirate Invasion at the Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier. Appropriate for all ages, Treasure Island stays true to Stevenson s darkly iconic imagery
through nautical atmosphere, period elements, pirate slang, authentic use of sea shanties, and carefully crafted action choreography. Robert Louis Stevenson was a 19 th century Scottish novelist, poet, and travel essayist most famous for writing Treasure Island and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. A celebrity and social critic in his own day, Stevenson brought tremendous imagination, cutting dialogue, and humanist perspectives to all of his work. Treasure Island, in particular, is a widely-loved and influential classic literary that is significantly responsible for lasting popular perceptions of pirate culture. Stevenson is now among the 26 most translated authors in the world. MORE-MORE-MORE Following Seas Productions is a Long Beach based performing arts company that hones the human-to-sea relationship through dynamic theatrical experiences and artistic advocacy. It is the Mission of Following Seas Productions to protect Earth s oceans and foster the human-to-sea connection through performing arts. Following Seas strives to cultivate sustainable methods of ocean renewal, promote ecological health, and conduct community outreach in the greater Long Beach area.
