Image Manipulation Unit 34 Chantelle Bennett

I believe that this image was taken several times to get this image. I also believe that the image was rotated to make it look like there is a dead end at and a big drop. I think that they had to use four to five layers to get this photo manipulated together.

I like this and I like how they have edited and manipulated the photo together. I believe that they had to take a photo of a fish in a tank, maybe at a sea life centre. Then they took a landscape photo from above showing land and the water. As well as some house to create a island on the fishes back. I think that this took about six layers to do to get this photo. I reckon this image was manipulated by three layers to make this photo really good. I think that they a long curvy road and then on a big filed and then the man carrying a big grey sheet to merge with the road

I believe that this photo was manipulated by doing eight kinds of different layers. For example it is obvious that the dog was a photo taken separately as dogs cant fly. I also think that someone had to hold the lead up when taking the image and when it came to editing the photo they airbrushed that person out and added the dog into the photo and place it were the led is. This image has been manipulated on Photoshop and I believe they have used two layers. The first photo being taken from a building using a high angle shot. The second being a person jumping of something and then it s just been manipulated to make out the person is jumping from a building

Analysing artist work. Erik Johanssan Erik Johanssan is well known for his photo manipulation skills. He has done various different manipulations on photos on Photoshop that have turned out really well. Johanssan is a full time photographer and a retoucher from Sweden based in Berlin, Germany. He has said that he can create almost anything that you can imagine. He has quoted that Having an understanding of each step of the process from sketch to final image gives me total control of the whole work flow.

Christopher Gilbert

I think this image is really creative as this Artist has used a mans shirt and manipulated It on Photoshop to make the sleeves longer by making it look like a river. This image I guess was by using three layers on photoshop. I think that they took a low angle shot for the car on it s side and the other image was probably from a lake as you can see water on the photo.

Mind map Door handle Person

Shoot Plan For my first shoot for my photo manipulation I plan I would like to take an image of a building and (maybe) a road so that when it s uploaded on Photoshop I can manipulate the photos together. I will also try to use the cut tool Photoshop to cut a circle round the images. This is to try and make it look like a globe and give it a good effect. I will also take and image of some water of a lake or a river so that the photo of the buildings are on the water with a little bit of land that the buildings are on, surrounded by a few swans in the lake. I will be using my own images when doing the photo manipulation, which means I will have to visit various locations to get the images I want.

I have planned to put the building and the swans onto the lake with a reflection. I will also plan to change the colour of the background.

Contact sheet I m not to keen on this image as the swan is looking the wrong way I might use this depending how good it looks, if it doesn t then it won t be used Love this landscape image and I know I will definitely be using this photo I like this image and that I think I might just use that when doing the manipulation

Finished piece This is my first photo manipulation I did. I like the way it gives a good effect and can become very eye catching when looking at it. I used various images and used the images that I wrote in my shoot plan.

Evaluation Throughout doing this photo manipulation I can honestly say I have really enjoyed doing the first shoot as everything went as planned. I made some changes along the way when it came to editing the images on Photoshop as I wanted it to be realistic as possible. Firstly, I had to go out to the locations and take the images that I wanted which was buildings, rivers, lakes, land and some swans. I had to go and visit various locations as I need quite a few photos. The camera was set at 1/125 of a second and was on F5.6. Once I got the images, I managed to upload them onto the computer and put them on to Photoshop to start the photo manipulation. I had to concentrate on one image first and then the next image and then the next one after that and so on. Once I did that and I had edited them I would put all the images together to create one photo manipulation. Overall, the number of layers for this manipulation was five but during this I had to edit some photos making it look like there were more layers then there actually was. I had to duplicate the background layer and then change the colour of the background to a different colour. I then had to use the magnetic tool to cut around the other images. I had to edit a bit more of the images and give it some effect to make it look really realistic. It took a good few hours to do to make it look right and perfect.

Second shoot plan What I am planning to do for my second shoot is take a image of someone sat on a table or chair, with there hands by their sides. I am also going to be taking some images of door handles as I want to make it look like the person is sitting on the door handle at a really high height. I am only taking to photos but I will try and make it look realistic as possible because I don t want people to think that I have just dragged and dropped the photo. I want to edit it to make it realistic as possible so people think that I haven t just dragged and dropped it. The equipment that I will be using is a SLR camera and I will have the ISO on 1/125 a second and the F.5.6.

What I am planning to do is take a photo of some one sitting down on a chair or table and then take an image of a door handle. These are the only two images that I will be using, however I will be editing them and giving them effects on Photoshop to make it realistic as possible.

Contact sheet I like this image and I feel like this image could be the one I will be using as I think it would look good once merged and manipulated together I want to do an image of the person holding on to the door handle but I don t think it will work as the person is at the wrong angle This is the right kind of image for my second manipulation. It has the right kind of light and you can see the door handle. This door handle will be to dark to use in my photo manipulation

If you look closely you can see the shadow in the background of the person.

Finished Piece This is the second photo manipulation I did. I know it looks simple and easy but this did take some time doing. I tried using the burn tool to add the shadow on but it just looked like it was drawn on and didn t look good. Then I found out that I would have to double click on the layer and use drop shadow. I then had to change the angle and of where the shadow was coming from and the shape and size. When I had done that it looked better then when I did it using the burn tool.

Evaluation This second shoot didn t take as long to photo manipulate like the first one did. All this shoot contained was just two images, a door handle and a person. However, I did have to edit the image because it didn t look realistic and would just look like I ve took two images and just placed them onto one photo. Once I got my two images, I went onto Photoshop and I placed the second image I took onto the background layer by using the transformation tool to try and make the person smaller and put them on the door handle. I also thought that it wasn t enough and so I used the burn tool and made a shadow in the background making it look like she was actually there. However, the burn tool did not work properly as it just looked like I had drawn it on. I then found out that if I click onto the second layer twice (double click) it would come up asking for a drop shadow. So I clicked onto it, changed it to multiply and changed the angle and the opacity, size and shape to get the shadow how I wanted it. It looked better after I made this change and more realistic.

Whole evaluation The original purpose of the project was to take photos of objects of people and make up our own photo manipulation. We had to think big and come up with new ideas. I managed my time by thinking what I was going to be doing throughout the process. I managed my time really well and that I managed to finish my photo manipulation finished at the right time. The research that I did when doing this project was looking at other photographers who have done photo manipulation such as Christopher Gilbert and Erik Johanssan. I found there work so interesting that it gave me some ideas and that I couldn t wait to get down and do the work and start planning my photo manipulation ideas. The things that I have learnt when doing this project was going onto Photoshop and using tools on there that I have never used before or knew about. When using the tools on Photoshop that I had never used before, I can honestly say that it really did help me when doing this project because the final piece of the images came out great. When analysing my photos I noticed that I loved some and I disliked some. I only took a few photos but a lot were the same and I had to pick the best one. I need one that was going to stand out and look good. I managed to find one in the end but when it came to analysing images I did struggle just a bit but I only analysed the images that I liked and then one or two that I disliked. When evaluating my work I found some things quite easy as I knew what I was doing as at the end of the photo manipulation process I knew what I had found easy and what I had found difficult. I also put in my evaluation the things that I had changed along the way. The things I found successful was being able to take the images for the manipulation and the way the photo manipulation turned out at the end. There was a few things along the way that I did change because it didn t look good and by doing this the image looked even better Things that need improving was just spending a bit more extra time on the images especially the second photo manipulation as I think it needed a bit more things added to it and a bit more work done on it. I also think that by adding another person to the second manipulation would of made the image better and not so plain. If I was to do this again I would think even bigger and make the manipulation better. I would also get more people involved and take more pictures so then I will have a variety to choose from. I think I would plan my ideas better

Backing up my work When doing work like photo manipulation or other work you will need to back up your work either on another computer or on memory stick. This is so that your work doesn t get lost as if you only have one memory stick and your work got corrupted, you have a back up on another memory stick to carry on doing your work.
