Anne Berk Biography: Anne Berk was certified by TKGA as a Master Knitter in 2003. Anne has designed for many yarn companies. DVDs on intarsia technique - Inside Intarsia and Intarsia In Depth are published by Interweave. She has written patterns and articles for many publications, including Piecework, Sockupied, ColorKnit and Twist Collective. She has taught classes nationally on subjects ranging from Argyle socks to Zipper insertion into hand-knits. Annetarsia Knits is a reference book for learning to knit intarsia flat or in the round, in stockinette or garter stitch. The book includes workshops, a motif library, and 28 patterns for using the new techniques. Content is designed for knitters of all skill levels. Anne is also an optometrist in private practice in Portland, OR. Class Schedule: Bohus Knitting, Friday, May 4, 9:00am-12:00pm, (break), 1:30 pm-4:30 pm Annetarsia: Intarsia Garter Stitch, Saturday, May 5, 9:00 am-10:30 am Perfect Edgings: Zippers and Buttonholes, Saturday, May 5, 11:00am-12:30 pm Perfect Edgings: Necklines, Collars, Saturday, May 5, 2:00 pm-5:00 pm Fresh Approach to Annetarsia, Sunday, May 6, 10:30 am-1:30 pm Annetarsia in the Round, Sunday, May 6, 2:00 pm-5:00 pm

Class Descriptions, Homework & Supply Lists: Bohus Knitting Class Length: 6 Hours Prerequisites: Knitting, purling, experience with stranded colorwork and ability to knit with yarn in either hand. The Bohus Knitting collective created a unique style in the 1960's using yoke construction, stranded knitting technique, and custom fingering-weight yarn in a merino-angora blend. Original sweaters have become collector's items, and modern knitters seek to emulate the rich colorwork and subtle shading achieved with the fine yarns and use of both knit and purl stitches in the stranded charts. This class covers how to read and design charts in the Bohus style, how to strand with more than two yarns at a time, the merits of pullovers versus cardigans (to steek or not to steek?), what modern yarns are suitable for Bohus-style knitting, and buttonhole choices for cardigans. We'll examine sweaters knit from original Bohus patterns and swatch a Bohus-style chart. This is not a history class, but it will give knitters the tools to navigate this challenging style with confidence. Students Should Bring: Needles: bring various needle sizes from 1-3, as we will experiment with gauge. DPNs (6-8 in long), straight, or short (16") circular needles. We will be working flat knitting. Post-it notes, fingering weight yarn in 5-7 solid colors, and appropriate needles. Homework: None Annetarsia: Intarsia Garter Stitch (mini-class) Class Length: 1.5 Hours Prerequisites: Knit. Intarsia allows knitters to paint pictures on their knitting and control color, while making a single layer fabric. Have you ever wondered why intarsia is always done in stockinette? Learn to break that rule, so that the benefits of garter stitch (reversible fabric that does not curl, and row gauge that equals stitch gauge) can be translated to your intarsia designs. Students Should Bring: Smooth, worsted weight yarn in at least 3 contrasting colors, and appropriate sized needles. We will be knitting flat, and long DPN s or straight needles are recommended, if available. Straight needles make the multiple yarns easier to manage. Class project will be suitable to knit a scarf if you wish to keep knitting (small amounts of stash that total about 400 yds will be ideal.)

Perfect Edgings: Zippers and Buttonholes (mini-class) Class Length: 1.5 Hours Prerequisites: Knit, purl, bind off, pick up sts, and basic skills using sewing needle and thread Edgings are an important design element, providing beauty and function. We will de-mystify the process of the perfect instillation of zippers into hand-knits, and creating buttonholes worked into the fabric or added to an existing edge with the i-cord bind-off technique Students Should Bring: Projects that are ready for edging or zippers are welcome. Bring supplies suitable for those projects. 4-7 Zipper, Extra swatch yarn to use for edgings, and knitting needles 2-3 sizes smaller than used for swatch. DPN s or short knitting needles are recommended. Sewing needle, thread which matches the swatch yarn (for sewing zipper), and sewing thread in a contrasting color (for basting), sewing pins. Homework: Assemble supplies. If no project is ready, knit and bring to class: 2 swatches at least 3 inches wide, and the same length as the zipper brought to class Perfect Edgings: Necklines, Collars Prerequisites: Knit, purl Necklines frame the face, and are a focal point of any sweater. Multiple neckline options from simple to more complex will be covered, for V-neck, boat neck, scoop neck, crew neck, and collared necklines which will give your garments a professional appearance. Students Should Bring: Smooth, worsted weight yarn, and needles sizes 5, 6, and 7 (16" length circular preferred) Swatches from homework. Homework: Knit 3 swatches of stockinette at least 6 in. wide and 2 in. deep, knit with the class yarn and size 7 needles. Do not bind off your swatch, bring to class on the needles or holders. Annetarsia : A fresh Approach to Intarsia Knitting Prerequisites: Knit, purl.

Expand your horizons to conquer non-stranded color knitting. Learn ways to manage multiple yarn supplies, read colorwork charts, and to deal efficiently with the ends. Confidently link the yarns between sections to create a flat, single layer of stockinette where YOU control the color, and make beautiful motifs. Students Should Bring: Smooth, worsted weight yarn in 3 or more contrasting colors, and appropriate sized needles (size 7-9 US). We will be knitting flat, so long DPN s or straight needles are recommended, if available. Homework: None Annetarsia: Intarsia in the Round (ITR) (You don t need to take Annetarsia : a fresh approach to intarsia knitting in order to take ITR) Prerequisites: Knit, purl. Some experience with traditional intarsia and working from charts will be helpful, but not required. Knit intarsia in the round (ITR), with no visible seam. Learn techniques to manage yarn supplies, bury ends, and read charts when working in the round with non-stranded colorwork. Students Should Bring: Smooth, worsted weight yarn in at least 3 contrasting colors, and appropriate sized needles (7-9 US, circular needles 16 length). Yarn needles, scissors. Homework: Using any method, cast on 64 sts with one color onto a 16 circ needles. Being careful not to twist sts, join to work in the round. Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 1
