He is completely involved in art as an innovative watercolor and acrylic painter, collagist, teacher, author and juror. He has written more than 22 books for high school and college art classes, on a wide range of art subjects. He has had over 170 one-man shows from Alaska to Florida.
COLLAGE AND EFFECT PROSPECTUS AND RULES OF ENTRY: Please read carefully! ELIGIBILITY Two- or three-dimensional collage, mixedmedia collage and assemblage accepted. Current members in good standing with Collage Artists of America (CAA) may enter a maximum of five works not already shown at SFVACC or any prior CAA exhibit. Printed out copies of final image, works completed digitally, giclée prints and similar duplicates, and works done under direct supervision of an instructor, are ineligible. ARTWORK FORMAT, PRESENTATION & SIZE REQUIREMENTS Size limits: limited to hanging on an 8 high wall and must fit through a 6 6 high x 36 wide door. Pedestal art, same door, and 15-foot height limit (no weight limits, but artist must move work). Non- traditional framing is allowed; however, frames must be clean and in good condition. No glass allowed, Plexiglas only. Entries must be dry, properly prepared for exhibition and properly equipped with wire for hanging. No sawtooth hangers accepted. The wire and eye screws must not show when the artwork is hung. Size Limit for SHIPPED WORK is 30 x30. Source material must be original OR not PRIMARILY derived from any published images. Once artwork is submitted the artist may not withdraw it. Delivered work must match the image juried in. No substitutions of accepted works will be allowed. No artwork may be removed from the gallery prior to closing of exhibit, including sold artwork AWARDS First Place $500, Second Place $300, Third Place $200, Honorable Mentions LOCATION The gallery is at the 4,600 sq. ft. San Fernando Valley Arts & Cultural Center, 18312 Oxnard Street, Tarzana, CA 91356 Maximum weight for any hanging artwork is 20 lbs. per piece. Maximum weight for pedestal pieces is 45 lbs. per piece. Damaged artwork, mats, frames, Plexiglas, and artwork that is not properly wired for hanging will not be accepted. Diptychs, triptychs, and other multipart artwork must be presented as a single work at take-in, with all parts attached and ready to hang as a single piece. All two-dimensional artwork must be framed. The frame may complement and enhance the artwork it surrounds but not distract from it. The frame must be in excellent condition, and suitable for hanging in a professional gallery exhibit. Artwork must be glazed in Plexiglas only, no glass. REGULAR GALLERY HOURS Tuesday - Saturday, 11:00am 5:00pm SITTING THE CENTER Local artists whose work is accepted are expected to sit the Center from October 24 November 12, 2017 for at least one 3-hour shift. (11:00am 2:00pm or 2:00 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday). Please sign up during the take in. Mats are recommended for framed artwork but are not required. Mats must be of gallery quality, clean, in excellent condition, and of a professional appearance. Gallery wrapped canvas or wood panel does not require framing unless the edges are unfinished, and must have no fasteners visible.
Wall-hung artwork, including wall-hung assemblage, must be wired to properly support the piece for hanging. Wires must be attached with screw eyes or D-rings, and wire ends must be wrapped with tape or otherwise protected. No saw tooth (bar) hangers accepted. Damaged artwork, mats, frames, Plexiglas, and artwork that is not properly wired for hanging, or not dry, will not be accepted. CAA reserves the right to refuse artwork that doesn t meet these requirements. ENTRY FEES & FORMS Non-refundable entry fee is $45 for up to three entries, and $5 each for up to two additional entries. Artists may enter up to five artworks total. Pay by check at Jury take-in, payable to Collage Artists of America. Check number is required on entry form. Entry forms and checks must be completed before arrival at TAKE-IN / JURY DAY. REPRODUCTION OF ARTWORK IMAGES By entering this exhibit, artist agrees that any accepted artwork may be reproduced for advertising, marketing, and promotional purposes for this exhibit or future exhibits without consent of or notification to the artist or the artist s agent. TAKE-IN JURY DAY Hand-delivered artwork must be brought to Jury take-in on Monday, October 23, 2017, 12:30 2:30pm. Non-selected works must be removed from 4:00-5:00pm. Any artwork that arrives damaged or does not adhere to rules of entry will be disqualified. Artists may designate an agent to deliver and/or pick up their artwork. Shipped artwork must be crated/boxed, prepaid, in a reusable shipping container, using bubble wrap or other high-quality packing material No packing peanuts please! Include prepaid return shipping label, entry form, entry fee, plus a $25 per box handling fee, checks payable to Collage Artists of America. Ship to arrive by October 16 to: COLLAGE AND EFFECT EXHIBIT Collage Artists of America 11271 Ventura Blvd. #274 Studio City, CA 91604. TAKE-DOWN AND PICK-UP Monday November 13, 12:30-2:00pm. After exhibit close, unsold artwork must be picked up at gallery. Artist/agent must sign for all artwork removed from the premises. Shipped works will be returned by November 30, 2017. NO SECURE STORAGE IS AVAILABLE. If you cannot pick up your artwork as required, please make arrangements for someone to pick it up for you. Storage charge is $5 per day if art is left at the gallery. (except Shipped artworks.) GALLERY SALES All sales are final. Gallery will receive 30% commission on any and all sales during and as a result of the exhibit. Artist will receive 70%. All work shall remain in the exhibit until the exhibit ends. Any artwork without a sale price on the entry form will be considered Not for Sale (NFS). Prices cannot be changed from those stated at submission. Artists should expect payment within 3 weeks after close of the exhibition.
OBLIGATIONS AND LIABILITY By entering this exhibit, artists agree to the terms, conditions, and instructions in this prospectus and on the entry form. Accepted artists are asked to provide by email a brief biographical and artistic statement, two-three paragraphs, to fit on one page, including a small photo. Publication of statements is solely at the discretion of CAA. Exhibit postcard announcements are available at take-in. Artists are encouraged to send announcements to colleagues and other artists. An e-mail invitation with the postcard image will also be provided to forward. Artworks are handled with utmost care. However, artists are solely responsible for maintaining appropriate insurance on their artwork at all times. Neither CAA, nor any organization, gallery, agent, employee, contractor, CAA member, nor volunteer is responsible for loss or damage to any artwork submitted, nor any loss or damage that may occur during transit. *ENTRY FORM INSTRUCTIONS A two-part, unseparated entry form must be completed and attached to upper right hand corner of each submission. Enter the e-mail address and telephone number at which you can be reached for same day notification of acceptance. Check one box for appropriate artwork medium: COLLAGE: flat or very low relief. MIXED MEDIA COLLAGE: moderate relief and/or different techniques and materials. ASSEMBLAGE: highly dimensional, multiple three-dimensional elements, and/or freestanding. Enter the size of the artwork including all framing, matting, and protrusions. Do not include pedestals in the measurement.
