Karl-Heinz Schaumburg obtained his Master of Science in electrical engineering and electronics from the Technical University of Aachen, Germany. He had worked with the IP department of Siemens for seven years where he was admitted as a German patent attorney. At Siemens Karl-Heinz Schaumburg was in particular involved with patent prosecution, building and maintaining patent portfolios as well as law on employee inventions. Karl-Heinz Schaumburg is now performing an advisory function within our firm.

Further, he is dealing with nullity proceedings before the German Federal Patent Court and the German Federal Supreme Court. Dieter Thoenes has acted as expert, appointed by the Court, in patent infringement proceedings. Dieter Thoenes works on patents related to mechanical engineering in general, including machine tools, automobile technology, injection and pressure moulding; sewing machines; medical and surgical equipment; office machines, banking machines, cash registers and retail self-service systems; mail handling machines. Dieter Thoenes obtained his Master of Science and PhD in physics from the Technical University of Munich, Germany. On behalf of his German and international clients, Gerhard Thurn is involved with building and maintaining IP portfolios. In his technical work Gerhard Thurn focuses on the field of mechanics, electrical engineering and electronics, telecommunication, software, electromedical technique, optics and optoelectronics, printing technology and automobile engineering. Gerhard Thurn studied electrical engineering and electronics at the Technical University of Berlin, Germany, and subsequently worked as a research associate at the Institute for Measurement and Control Technology) at the above-mentioned university. His research focused on the control of machine tools as well as on computer science and opto-electronics. He obtained his PhD in the field of opto-electronical sensors. Subsequently, Gerhard Thurn worked at the company Schering AG for three years, where he contributed, as assistant to the management, to a market survey on novel technologies conducted by the management consultancy firm McKinsey. Gerhard Thurn joined the firm in 1987.

Melanie Zani obtained her engineering degree from the scientific-technological university Politecnico di Milano of Milan, Italy. The focus of her studies were on statistic and probabilistic models of environmental systems, informatics, remote sensing and image processing, as well as on structural mechanics.
