3 GUARDING ACCESS INFORMATION There are three ways to access elevator machines with guarding set installed: Visual inspection, access door, and access cover. In the event that parts attached with screws need to be removed to get a better access to elevator machine, refer to machine installation drawings to understand how parts are assembled. 3.1 Visual inspection 3.1.1 Perforated guarding Whenever possible, look through the guard (do not remove it) to inspect the machine. Do not remove any guard unless the machine is shut down and locked out. Perforated guarding 3.1.2 Visual inspection window All visual inspection windows are identified with label LBL-F1006-000 QMF19 Rev 3.0 9
3.2 Access door Access doors are easily recognizable with their hinge(s), mechanical danger label(s), and panel fastener(s). To open a door, unscrew the panel fastener(s) with a Phillips screwdriver #2 and swing the door open. Close doors and tighten their panel fastener(s) before restarting machine. Reminder: Prior to opening a door, the machine must be shut down and locked out. Below are examples of typical guarding access doors: Swing door closed Swing door open Swing door Swing door QMF19 Rev 3.0 10

4 ELECTRICAL INFORMATION Masked holes are used for grounding (see photo below) 4.1 Existing ground connection Guarding may come with pre-attached ground cables. (See example below). Ground lugs of the cable are attached to pressed-in studs. If a ground cable has to be temporarily removed for any reason, make sure to reattach the cables before restarting machine QMF19 Rev 3.0 17
4.2 Grounding procedure In the event that grounding is required, follow the procedure below 4.2.1 Ground hole Look for masked holes 4.2.2 Internal toothed washer Put a toothed washer (MPR-F1013-000) on the top of each grounding holes unless specified otherwise in the guarding installation drawing. 4.2.3 Secure in place Use a self tapping screw (MPR-F1001-000) to sandwich the toothed washer and secure the part in place. 5 SLOTS AND OPENINGS In the event that guarding was modified on site because adjustment was required, refer to the table below to ensure that the guarding set remains compliant. Openings created by modifications must not be larger than what is specified in the table below. Protect exposed edges with edge trims. Source: CSA Z432-04 November 2006 QMF19 Rev 3.0 19
6 WARNINGS Do not: Install or remove guarding unless you are a certified mechanic. Remove safe guard unless machine is shut down and locked out. Restart machine with safe guard removed or dislodged.
