SMI Strip Measurement Inductive maintenance-free self regulating reliable
SMI Strip Measurement Inductive Operating principle: The inductive strip centre sensor SMI (Strip Measurement Inductive) is based on electromagnetic induction. Two strip centre sensors are arranged on each strip edge at right angles to the strip pass direction in such a way that the strip moves centrally between the strip centre sensors. The strip centre sensor arranged below the strip is the receiver, and the sensor arranged above the strip is the emitter. The electronic unit SMI2.11 x feeds the emitters with a sinusoidal alternating voltage with controlled frequency and amplitude. On each emitter coil, a distinctive electromagnetic alternating field is formed and directed towards the opposite receiver. The receivers detect a different intensity, depending on the position of the strip. The alternating voltages induced in this manner provide analogue output signals for the strip edge position by evaluating the frequency-dependent amplitude. The inductive strip sensing system contains complex self-test facilities. The individual signals are combined into the cumulative signals sensing system OK and strip detected. In addition to the proven performance features maintenance-freedom and stability the new modular sensor design as well as the improved symmetry characteristics of the sensor family SMI offer a better centre measurement accuracy as well as various possibilities to achieve your individual demands. Since it is unsusceptible to disruptive exterior influences from the outside, even non-magnetic materials such as aluminium, copper, brass and austenitic chrome nickel steels (e.g. 1.4301) are also reliably sensed with the inductive measurement process. Encapsulated sensor (fork shaped) in a plastic housing, protection type IP 67, with a 50 mm sensor opening 120 mm sensor depth. The evaluation electronics is separated from the IGS sensor. EMI / EKI: EMI: High-precision strip centre guiding system for operation at normal ambient temperatures with a measuring accuracy of +/- 1 mm. An optional output of the strip width is possible with an accuracy of +/- 1.5 mm*. EKI: For strip edge guiding systems at a normal ambient temperature with a measuring accuracy of +/- 1 mm*. *Generally speaking, this level of accuracy can only be achieved with a constant strip thickness, material type and pass line! The compact measuring frame, which consists of anodised extruded aluminium profiles, is equipped with mobile inductive sensors on both strip edges that are driven by electric motors. The two sensors above and below the strip are mechanically coupled at the side via a synchronising shaft and they follow the strip edges in rigid position control loops. The corresponding positions are continuously detected via integrated position sensors. The strip position is calculated from these positions and the extent of sensor coverage.
