MINING TODAY 2018 International Conference-cum-Exhibition on Mining Policy, Regulation & Mining Machinery February 14-17, 2018 Hitex Exhibition Center, Hyderabad Concept Mining is one of the core sectors that drives the growth of an economy, contributing to GDP. It acts as a catalyst for growth of other core industries like Power, Steel, Cement, Aerospace, Defense, Oil & Gas, Aluminum, Metallurgical, Chemical, Automotive, Auto Components etc., which, in turn, are critical for the overall development of the economy. A robust mining sector is crucial for India's economic growth in the coming years, as it is the backbone of manufacturing and infrastructure development. Introduction of new mining policies by the Government of India gave a boost to the mining sector. As mining grows, the demand for mechanization with highly productive, safe, efficient & cost effective machinery increase manifold. The International Conference-cum-Exhibition on Technology, Equipment, Machinery, Policy and Overseas (TEMPO), to pep the tempo of Mining Sector globally. The event emphasizes on Mining Policy, Regulation & Mining Machinery having focus on a range of areas of critical interest for next-generation mining, a world s convention for mining professionals, entrepreneurs, companies and organizations connected with mining and allied activities. Hub of the event for transfer of knowledge on data analysis & tracking systems on mines; role of robotics in operations, modernization & crucial innovations for conservation, environmental protection, waste & resource management. Looking ahead to share experience, technology advancement globally, digital analytics, data viz., collect, verify or transform digital data into reporting, research, analysis, recommendations, optimizations, predictions and show cases automation including mining equipment. MINING IN INDIA For any nation, minerals contribute the back-bone for economic growth. Mining in India, a time in the past that was so long ago, the earliest and most authentic record of information relating to minerals in ancient India is found in Arthashastra, a treatise composed by Kautilya famously known as Chanakya, between 321 and 296 BC, during the Dynasty of Great Indian Emperor Ashoka. This treatise elaborates a comprehensive account of properties of ores of various minerals and metals with methods for treatment and largescale production as well as manufacture of alloys. Kautilya said the wealth of the State is its source in the mining & metallurgical industry, the power of state comes out of these mineral resources. India is endowed with 95 minerals, including 4 fuel, 10 metallic, 23 non-metallic, 3 atomic and 55 minor minerals. The Mining industry in India is a major economic activity contributing significantly to the country's economy. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from mining range between 2.2% to 2.5%. But going by the GDP of the total industrial sector, contributes around 10% to 11%. The Government of India announced amiable policies as a part of wider set of nation-building initiatives to transform India into a global design attracting FDI in mining sector under the concept of Make in India inviting potential partners and investors around the world. The State of Telangana pronounced 'Make in Telangana by announcing TS-iPASS Telangana State Industrial Project Approval and Self-Certification System (TS-iPASS) Act, 2014. In this backdrop, Mining Engineers' Association of India (MEAI) alongwith Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is organizing a three day Conference-cum-Exhibition on Mining Policy, Regulation and Mining Machinery MINING TODAY 2018 supported by Government of India and State Government of Telangana with theme TEMPO-Technology, Equipment, Machinery, Policy & Overseas.

The Association's National Headquarters has suitable facilities to accommodate office rooms, a Lecture hall and Library. The library hosts a treasure of over 500 books consisting of textbooks relating to mining, geosciences, souvenirs, seminar proceedings, national and international mining and related journals/ magazines etc. and accessible to its members, college students and scholars. The main objectives of the Association are safeguarding and enhancing the professional competence and integrity of mineral industry professionals viz. mining engineers, geologists and allied engineers and geoscientists, serving in the mineral industry. It also aims at contributing its might to induce scientific and technological developments in the mining industry for the benefit of its professionals and the Country. Besides these, MEAI maintains regular interaction with the government and concerned departments, and the mineral industry to offer technical guidance for the benefit of industry. The Association organizes National and International seminars, symposia, workshops, training programmers, exhibitions and technical discussions periodically at different places in the country through its chapters and the feed-back/ recommendations from such events are sent to the policy makers for their consideration. The Association publishes a monthly Journal in English entitled Mining Engineers' Journal containing News from the Mining World, Technical papers, latest circulars from different ministries, upcoming events and the news of its Chapters. The Journal is the official organ of the Association and supplied complementarily to all the members of the Association, Govt. departments, educational institutions, and research organizations. The Association has entered into bilateral agreements with Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration Inc. (SME), USA, Australasian Institute of Mines and Metallurgy (AusIMM), Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) to exchange latest scientific information on the recent technological developments in the fields of exploration, mining and metallurgy. In recognition of valuable services rendered to the mining industry, the Government of India, Ministry of Mines invited the Association to be a member on the Mineral Advisory Board. Few State Governments invited prominent members of the Association to work with their Mining related departments/undertakings in finalizing their annual programs. For the last two years, the Association has embarked upon leading a National initiative concerning mineral industry and make India as a member of CRIRSCO, a Committee for Mineral Reserves International Reporting Standards. All major professional bodies representing the Indian mining industry are supporting this initiative.
