Realistic and Symblic Prtraiture RESPOND Dmain Grade 4

Prcess: Students were shwn Lenard da Vinci s Mna Lisa and Frida Kahl s Self-Prtrait with Thrn Necklace and Hummingbird and were asked t cmplete a Venn diagram. Afterwards the class discussed the tw pieces t examine the artists intent and characteristics f style. A 2 nd Venn Diagram dcuments student grwth frm the pre-assessment. The art assignment was t create a realistic self-prtrait using crrect placement and facial prprtin with pencil and Sharpie n white paper. Secndly, students were t create a symblic Day f the Dead prtrait r self-prtrait using marker, tissue paper, and glitter n white paper. As a culminating activity the student evaluated and analyzed their wn wrk in a final Venn Diagram and wrte a shrt explanatin fr their preference in type f prtrait. Lessn Objective: TLW learn abut the histry f prtraiture, including Mna Lisa by Lenard da Vinci and Self-Prtrait with Thrn Necklace and Hummingbird by Frida Kahl TLW draw a self-prtrait, recgnizing details and crrectly rendering size and placement f features TLW learn abut Frida Kahl and create an artwrk using symbls in a Day f the Dead prtrait. Dmain: This artifact represents the Respnd dmain. Student grwth is shwn frm pre-instructinal Venn diagram t pst-instructinal Venn diagram f the artwrks Mna Lisa by da Vinci and Self-Prtrait with Thrn Necklace and Hummingbird by Frida Kahl. Additinally she can verbalize her appreciatin fr the Mna Lisa while als finding a slutin fr what it lacks in her pinin symblism. This student has masterfully reflected and analyzed her wn wrk and the prtraits studied t frm her wn unique pinin.
