AGG-051K manual.qxd 9/24/09 9:48 AM Page 3 INTRODUCTION Congratulations on purchasing an Ozito Angle Grinder Kit. We aim to provide quality tools at an affordable price. We hope you will enjoy using this tool for many years. Your Ozito Angle Grinder AGG-051K has been designed to cut and grind all types of material and is intended for DIY use only. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Warning! When using mains-powered equipment, basic safety precautions, including the following, should always be followed to reduce risk of fire, electric shock, personal injury and material damage. Read and understand the manual prior to operating this tool. Save these instructions and other documents supplied with this tool for future reference. ELECTRICAL SAFETY The electric motor has been designed for 230V and 240V only. Always check that the power supply corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate. Note: The supply of 230V and 240V on Ozito tools are interchangeable for Australia and New Zealand. This tool is double insulated in accordance with AS/NZS 3100: 2002; therefore no earth wire is required. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by an electrician or a power tool repairer in order to avoid a hazard. Note: Double insulation does not take the place of normal safety precautions when operating this tool. The insulation system is for added protection against injury resulting from a possible electrical insulation failure within the tool. Using an Extension Lead Always use an approved extension lead suitable for the power input of this tool. Before use, inspect the extension lead for signs of damage, wear and ageing. Replace the extension lead if damaged or defective. When using an extension lead on a reel, always unwind the lead completely. Use of an extension lead not suitable for the power input of the tool or which is damaged or defective may result in a risk of fire and electric shock. 3

AGG-051K manual.qxd 9/24/09 9:48 AM Page 4 GENERAL 1. Keep work areas clean. Cluttered work areas and benches can cause accidents. 2. Consider work area environment. Do not expose your tool to high humidity or rain. Do not use your tool in damp or wet conditions. Keep the work area well lit. Do not use your tool where there is a risk of causing fire or explosion, e.g. in the presence of flammable liquids and gases. 3. Keep children away. Do not allow children, visitors or animals to come near the work area or to touch the tool or power lead. 4. Dress appropriately. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery, as these can be caught in moving parts. Preferably wear non-slip footwear when working outdoors. Wear protective hair covering to keep long hair out of the way. 5. Head protection. Always use safety glasses. Use a face or dust mask whenever the operations may produce dust or flying particles. Wear ear protection whenever the sound level seems uncomfortable. 6. Guard against electric shock. Prevent body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces (e.g. pipes, radiators, cookers and refrigerators). Electric safety can be further improved by using a high sensitivity (30 ma / 30 ms) residual current device (RCD). 7. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. 8. Stay alert. Watch what you are doing. Use common sense. Do not operate the tool when you are tired. 9. Secure work piece. Use clamps or a vice to hold the work piece; it is safer as it frees both hands to operate the tool. 10. Remove adjusting keys and wrenches. Always check that adjusting keys and wrenches are removed from the tool before operating the tool. 11. Extension leads. Before use inspect the extension leads and replace if damaged. When using the tool outdoors, only use extension leads intended for outdoor use and marked accordingly. 12. Use appropriate tool. The intended use is described in this instruction manual. Do not force small tools or attachments to do the job of a heavy duty tool. The tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was intended. Do not force the tool. Warning! The use of any accessory or attachment, or performance of any operation with this tool other than those recommended in this instruction manual may present a risk of personal injury. 4

AGG-051K manual.qxd 9/24/09 9:48 AM Page 5 GENERAL (cont.) 13. Check for damaged parts. Before use carefully check the tool and power lead for damage. Check for misalignment and seizure of moving parts, breakage of parts, damage to guards and switches and any other conditions that may affect its operation. Ensure that the tool will operate properly and perform its intended function. Do not use the tool if any parts are damaged or defective. Do not use the tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Have any damaged or defective parts repaired or replaced by an electrician or a power tool repairer. Never attempt any repairs yourself. 14. Unplug the tool. Shut off the power and wait for the tool to come to a complete standstill before leaving it unattended. Unplug the tool when it is not in use, before changing any parts of the tool, accessories or attachments and before servicing. 15. Avoid unintentional starting. Do not carry the tool with a finger on the on/off switch. Make sure the tool is switched off when plugging in. 16. Do not abuse the cord. Never carry the tool by its cord or pull it to disconnect from the socket. Keep the cord away from heat, oil and sharp edges. 17. Connect dust extraction equipment. If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure that these are connected and properly used. 18. Store idle tools. When not in use, tools should be stored in a dry, locked up or high place, out of reach of children. 19. Maintain tools with care. Keep tools clean and in good condition for better and safer performance. Follow the instructions for maintenance and changing accessories. Keep handles and switches dry, clean and free from oil and grease. 20. Have your tool repaired by an electrician or a power tool repairer. This power tool complies with relevant safety requirements. To avoid danger, electrical appliances must only be repaired by qualified technicians using original spare parts; otherwise this may result in considerable danger to the user. 21. Users. This appliance is not intended for use by young children or infirmed persons without supervision. Young children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with this appliance. 22. Replacement of the supply cord. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by an electrician or a power tool repairer in order to avoid a hazard. 5

AGG-051K manual.qxd 9/24/09 9:48 AM Page 6 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR ANGLE GRINDERS Make sure the disc is not contacting the work piece before the switch is turned on. Keep the guard in place. Check the disc carefully for cracks or damage before operation. Replace cracked or damaged discs immediately. Be careful not to damage the spindle or either of the disc flanges. Damage to these parts could result in disc breakage. Hold the tool firmly. Before using the tool on an actual work piece, let it run for a while. Watch for vibration or wobbling that could indicate poor installation of the disc or a poorly balanced disc. Use only discs designed for each specified function and purpose. Do not use cutting discs for grinding or metal wheels on masonry. Watch out for flying sparks. Hold the tool at an angle of approximately 15-30 to the work piece surface. It should never be necessary to force the tool. If rotational speed drops abnormally the pressure should be released immediately. Little more than the weight of the tool should be applied. Forcing and excessive pressure can cause dangerous disc breakage or damage to the tool. Use only discs having a maximum operating speed at least as high as No Load Speed marked on the rating label of the tool. OPERATION BE SURE TO DISCONNECT THE ANGLE GRINDER FROM THE POWER SUPPLY BEFORE ATTACHING OR REMOVING A DISC OR ATTACHMENT. Make sure the grinding or cutting disc is mounted with the label on top or facing the angle grinder. If you are fitting any other kind of attachment, refer to attachment fitting instructions. Ozito Industries P/L will not be responsible for any damage or injury caused due to the incorrect fitting of grinding or cutting discs or any other kind of attachment. Incorrect attachments can cause the motor to burn out, generally damage the tool and/or cause injury. Assembling the Side Handle The side handle should be assembled to the grinder prior to use. This is done by screwing the threaded end of the handle firmly in to the metal gear case of the grinder. There are three different positions that the handle can be fitted to the grinder. Choose the most appropriate position considering user comfort (preferred hand) and the task at hand. Rubber plugs can seal the unused holes in the metal gear case. Two have been supplied on the unit. 6

AGG-051K manual.qxd 9/24/09 9:48 AM Page 7 OPERATION (cont.) Adjusting the Safety Guard Ensure the guard is fitted and at an angle which ensures it is between you and the disc/wheel. The guard is there to protect you from dislodging objects at the work piece and from accidental contact with the disc/wheel, of your hand, fingers or other parts of your body. To adjust the guard, loosen the guard securing screw using the allen key supplied in the kit box. Rotate the guard into the required position, then refasten the screw. Ensure the guard is firmly secured prior to use. Attaching and Removing Grinding Discs Inspect the grinding disc before fitting and during use to ensure it is not deformed or cracked. Note: Always ensure replacement discs/wheels maximum no load RPM speed exceeds the no load speed marked on the rating label of this grinder. Use of a disc or wheel which maximum no load RPM speed is less than the grinders is a hazard. Remove the outer flange (threaded flange) by hand if loose. If tight, depress the spindle lock button at the top of the metal gear case and rotate the spindle to locate the lock position. With the spindle locked and the spindle lock button still depressed, use the pin spanner supplied to loosen (anti-clockwise) the outer flange. Holding the angle grinder with the spindle facing upwards, ensure the inner flange (non-threaded flange) is on the spindle and located correctly. The two machined flat sections on one side of the inner flange must face the angle grinder and locate in the appropriate position on the spindle. Insert the grinding disc onto the angle grinder spindle with the disc label facing the angle grinder. The hole in the disc should be located onto the spindle. Ensure that the hole in the disc locates and fits firmly into the ring section of the inner flange. Screw the outer flange onto the spindle with the raised ring section facing the angle grinder. This ring section must locate within the hole in the disc. Tighten the outer flange by locking the spindle, as explained previously, then use the pin spanner to tighten the flange. Removal of the disc is conducted in reverse order to the above. Note: 80mm flanges should be used for cutting discs as they offer more support for the disc. When fitting the outer flange (threaded flange) over a cutting disc, the raised ring section should face away from the grinder in order for the face of the outer flange to sit flush against the bottom side of the cutting disc. 40mm flanges should be used for grinding discs but the 80mm flanges can also be used if they do not interfere with the work piece you are grinding. If they come into contact with the work piece while the disc is spinning, it may be wiser to use the 40mm flanges as such contact may cause damage to the flanges and cause difficulty when trying to change discs. Regularly check that the disc outer flange has not loosened during use. Note: When fitting a cutting disc, the raised ring section on the outer flange should face away from the disc. 7

AGG-051K manual.qxd 9/24/09 9:48 AM Page 8 OPERATION (cont.) Paper Washers 10 paper washers have been included in this kit. These are for using with cutting discs. When using cutting discs with angle grinders, it is not uncommon for the outer flange to self tighten during use. By placing the washer over the spindle between the top of the cutting disc and the inner flange, this ensures the outer flange can easily be removed as described in Attaching and Removing Grinding Discs. Replacement paper washers can be supplied by your local hardware store. They usually come packed within the boxes that cutting discs are supplied in. Grinding and Cutting Discs Do not fit or use a grinding disc for cutting applications - For cutting, use a cutting disc and ask your hardware retailer for advice regarding the type of material you wish to cut. Grinding discs are used for grinding metal only. The grinding disc is not solid. It is made from grit which is bonded together with reinforcement and adhesives. It is always possible that a part of the disc can dislodge and fly away from the tool at high speed. This is why you must wear the appropriate safety equipment (glasses, gloves and protective clothing). Do not use any kind of attachment (discs or otherwise) which have a diameter greater than 230mm (9 ). Switch The grinder is fitted with a lock off safety switch. To operate the switch. first push the spring loaded lever at the front of the switch forward. Once this lever is pushed forward, depress the switch to start the angle grinder. To switch the tool off, release the pressure on the switch and it will return to the off position automatically. Soft Start The angle grinder is fitted with a soft start, this is an added safety feature which reduces the start up torque which can cause the tool to twist quickly. On starting the angle grinder, let it reach its full speed prior to attempting grinding/cutting. 8

AGG-051K manual.qxd 9/24/09 9:48 AM Page 9 OPERATION (cont.) Basic Abrasive Cutting Procedure First ensure the work piece is securely held down (by both sides of the work piece if possible). Turn on the grinder and proceed to start the cut gently do not bump the cutting disc to start a cut. Feed the disc through the work as fast as possible without slowing the cutting disc in the cut and labouring the machine. The abrasive cutting operation generates a great deal of localised heat which causes rapid expansion of the piece being cut. Discs operated at speeds significantly below the efficient speed or if fed through the cut too slowly will generate excessive heat. Such heat can cause rapid disc wear, fraying around the edge of the reinforced discs and disc breakage. MAINTENANCE Keep the ventilation vents of the tool clean at all times, if possible, prevent foreign matter from entering the vents. After each use, blow air through the tool housing to ensure it is free from all dust particles which may build up. Build up of dust particles may cause the tool to overheat and fail. If the enclosure of the tool requires cleaning do not use solvents but a moist soft cloth only. Never let any liquid get inside the tool; never immerse any part of the tool into a liquid. When the carbon brushes wear out, the tool will spark and/or stop. The brushes are a wearing component of the tool and should be replaced prior to the carbon wearing out fully. Brushes will wear out after many uses but before they do take the tool to an electrician or a power tool repairer for quick and low cost replacement. Always replace both brushes at the same time. Note: Ozito Industries will not be responsible for any damage or injuries caused by the repair of the tool by an unauthorised person or by mishandling of the tool. 9
