Today I have a very special guest with me, and I have lots of secrets to grill this special guest, so that he can reveal he's special method on how he's making money online with YouTube marketing. I would like to present our special guest to you, his name is Dean Henry. Dean, how are you doing today? Dean Henry: I'm doing great Gerald, thanks for having me. Gerald Soh: Awesome, so now Dean, let's dive straight away because I think everyone wants to know more about you and your secrets. So can you tell us a little bit about your background and how did you get started doing internet marketing? Dean Henry: Oh well, it's like everybody. You want to find the freedom of time, financial freedom, even when we are working in the corporate world. You know, in the corporate world, you are still being chained by your bosses you see so, you find a way out. At that time, my alternative was, because I was working home base, so I spend a lot of time in front of the computer, so that's how I chanced upon internet marketing. Well, that's what I have been trying to do until now, actually. Gerald Soh: Alright so, I came to know that you have been doing internet marketing.. for how many years now? Dean Henry: It's almost 10 years, Gerald. Gerald Soh: Oh, it's almost 10 years! So you are very experienced in this industry right? Dean Henry: Yes, I am very familiar with this industry. I am very familiar with the terminology, with the lingo. So, yes I am very familiar with this industry. Gerald Soh: Alright so, we have come to the next question. Now can you share with everyone in this call today, because you have been around close to 10 years now, so what is in your honest opinion based on your experience, what is the absolute easiest way for someone who is completely new to doing internet marketing and what is the easiest way for them to start making money online? Dean Henry: Okay Gerald, I think the answers to these questions is hands down affiliate marketing. I have tried a lot, I have tried these Adsense, I have tried CTA marketing, all those PPV, Adwords marketing and everything. Tubeloom.com 1
Those were hard. For a new beginner, I think the easiest way is affiliate marketing. Gerald Soh: Alright, I truly agree with you. When I was just getting started, and 90 over percent of people who get started making their first dollar online, it's always through affiliates marketing. I'm not saying that you know doing a product launch and all is not good, but affiliate marketing is one of the easiest, like what you just mentioned, because you don't need to have a product. You don't have to create your own products to make money online. And in some cases you even need to have your own kind of like a Facebook fan page, you do need to have your own website, and all to make money online. So, affiliate marketing, what you need to do is just your own, your special affiliate link and some cases you can already make money online. Dean Henry: Exactly Gerald, and I think affiliate marketing is a perfect entry point, a beginner entry point, into this industry because the entry barrier or the entry level is low, and it's affordable to most people. So if you can make it work, you can make it worth your while. Gerald Soh: You know, I am not going to let you go. I am going to grill you and I am going to make sure that we reveal your deepest secrets. So, we know that you are really good at YouTube marketing, you have email private code and generate simple affiliate commissions, we are talking about few hundred dollars with just one YouTube video. Can you share with everyone in this call today, what is this specific marketing strategy that you have? Dean Henry: Okay, as in any strategy, you need to have a system. So the system that is been proven to work over and over again, is a system called launch jacking. So the only question is, when you apply launch jacking, you need to find methods to make that system work. Now, I am sure that some of the viewers know what launch jacking is. If not, it's basically you trying to promote something before its launch. Now, one of the key elements in launch jacking is to be ranked on top of Google. Now, the Google landscape is changing very fast. Sometimes you have all kinds of animals, pandas and what not, you know and it will hurt your website rankings. For a small affiliate, or an entry level affiliate, who wants to make this launch jacking system work, they are left with 2 things. Either they need to have a deep pocket or they need to "beat Google". Tubeloom.com 2
So, most of the time, a lot of the internet marketers and affiliate marketers do not have deep pockets, and it's understandable because they are at entry level. So the alternative is to try and beat Google. When I say try to beat Google, I'm not talking about the Black Hat or anything, okay? What I discovered is, the way to get ranked on top if you do not have deep pockets is through your videos, specifically YouTube videos cause Google owns YouTube. If you have a YouTube video up and it is very relevant to the search, it will be ranked high on the first page or maybe 1, 2, 3. So, that's how I approach this launch jacking system. Yeah, so that's the fundamental of my approach Gerald. Gerald Soh: Right so, basically I get what you mean. I truly understand. As an affiliate I mean they are many ways to make money online as an affiliate. You have, I mean you can use Facebook, you can use YouTube, you can use articles, you can use press releases. There are so many other ways, but what you have just shared I think it's a rather genius way because you know, I mean this is a fact. Google has more than 2 billion visitors per day. So, the big chunk of traffic is in Google. Now, I have seen many people they get hit badly by what you have mentioned, the panda, the penguins, and all the other stuff. Now, your approach is genius because YouTube is owned by Google, so YouTube videos rank very well in Google search results as well. What you did was, instead of creating website to get them ranked on top of Google, now you are tapping on another source of traffic, free traffic, which is from YouTube, right? Dean Henry: Exactly Gerald. Gerald Soh: Right, so can you walk us through more specifically, how do you nail the ranking on YouTube videos? Is there specific step by step system that you're implementing? Dean Henry: Oh yes. Just like any other website you want to have the metrics to your content - either the website or video. So the metrics that Google looks at is normally the back links, and as of recently, Google or YouTube for that matter, put more emphasis on social signals. So what I did is, I have this video, I make a review video for an upcoming product that is going to be launched soon. So before I upload the video, I make sure that the video is "Liked by Google". To do that, I just make a few settings on the video before uploading it. Tubeloom.com 3
Then, when we upload, Google and YouTube can actually find the video - my video - and if it is relevant to the search it will be ranked high. What are the things for video that they (Google and YouTube) like? One is social signals. Two is how engaging the video is, how engaging the content is, how long the viewer sees the video. Number 3 is of course back links from it, just like how you rank any other website. So that are the 3 metrics that I did to my videos, Gerald. Gerald Soh: Awesome. You know I have done internet marketing for a long time, for many years now, and I have to admit it is really tough to get your videos to rank on top of the search results. It's really hard, and there is a specific method to do it. But if you do not know how to do it, if you do not have a step by step system, it will take you months, and maybe years, to get some good results. What we shared earlier, for those of you watching this video, follow Dean's step by step system and you can definitely get results because I can attest to it. I have been dealing with YouTube marketing for 5 years now, since the beginning, since I got started doing internet marketing, and what he said was right. Straight to the point, those are the important stuff that you will need to pay close attention to. Because if you are just randomly uploading a YouTube video, and hoping to get some results, it will never happen. This competition is always getting tougher and tougher. Dean Henry: Yes exactly Gerald, you must also understand that YouTube is a machine. So they will not know what we upload, unless we tell them otherwise. If we tell them that this is, for example, is a product video review, you must tell to YouTube by setting the correct setting, by putting the correct setting on the video. So that's how YouTube works actually. Gerald Soh: Now I think about it, it's really simple right? To dominate YouTube in this sense? Dean Henry: Yes actually. Gerald Soh: Alright! Awesome. So now, what is the biggest mistake you have made in your entire 10 years of doing internet marketing? Dean Henry: Ah, the mistakes. I will tell you Gerald. This one mistake is one that I regret very much. The mistake is, trying to do it all by myself. Trying to be a lone ranger doesn't work. I think I have too high of an ego to realize that sooner, because as a working man in the corporate world we are conditioned to try to figure out things, and try to make things work, in order to impress your boss, you see? So, at that time, the boss is myself in internet marketing, so I try to make everything work by myself! And as time goes by, I realized that, firstly, it's not working. Secondly, I was wearing myself down, and thirdly I lost the most important commodity of all, which is time. Cause time, when you spend it you cannot get it back. Money, you can find. Money is there you know? You just need to know how to get the money. But time, once you spend it it's gone. So that's my biggest regret Gerald, I try to do it all alone. You know how the saying goes "if you scratch my back I scratch yours", it's really true in this internet marketing industry, because the more partners you have, the more connections you have, the more joint ventures you have, the faster you can reach your goal. If you are all alone, you may be the greatest internet marketer, but nobody knows you. So, you won't get far. So that's the biggest mistake I made. Gerald Soh: So what would you advise those who are a lone ranger now? Those just getting started just themselves and the laptop, what would you advice them to do? Dean Henry: Now what I would advise them Gerald, is to go out and align yourself with the right people. Not simply aligning yourself with anybody. But align yourself with the right people. The people who can build you, yourself, and also the people who can build your business together. This can be tricky, but we need to find the right partner that's all, the right people to be align too also. If the people we choose to align with, there's no cohesion, there's nothing in common it will be a struggle. It will work, but it's hard. So, try to find and align yourself with somebody that is with shares the same vision with you, and the same goals with you. Because the internet marketing industry is very big, it has sub-niches. You can have the PR people, you can have the software people, you can have these Webinars people. So, you just need to make a decision right now, who you want to be and who you are going to be align with, and then go all in. Gerald Soh: Alright, talking about that, it's very simple in the sense that everyone knows this. Well, let's say if you want become a millionaire, so what you need to do? You need to surround yourself with as many millionaires as possible. So if your 5 closest friend are all millionaires, sooner or later you are going to be the sixth one. It's just the matter of time. Yeah, because you are conditioning your mindset, you are conditioning the way you talk the way you act, your habits and so just surround yourself with successful people and you will be the next one. That's for sure. Yes, I have to definitely agree with that, Gerald. To add on to that, you not only have to surround yourself with the people who you want to be, but at the same time you need to cut yourself away from the people that you don't want to be with. Gerald Soh: The negative ones? Dean Henry: The negative ones, yes. It is not enough to add on to the millionaires around, while you still hold on to the negative influences in your life. So, the negative ones need to let go and you need to hold on to the positive ones. Gerald Soh: Yeah that's very true. What you mentioned was exactly right on the dot. I have had bad experiences lately, and I got a choice. Because that person fought for a paypal dispute for some matters, and it was a big amount. Yes, I can fight for the case and win the dispute, but then I realized that if I do, this will drag on for few weeks or few months, and after that I may win or I will win, but I realized that after that what will happen? There is so many other horrible stuff I can foresee, and the negative stuff. So I was like, well I will just refund you the money. Although I am in the right position, but because that person is just not in the right mindset and they're all negative, I don't need that person's money. So I just let him go, I wished him all the best. I told him that whatever I refunded to you doesn't really belong to you, so I asked him to just donate it to charity. Dean Henry: Yeah, we need to know when to burn the bridge. Gerald Soh: Yeah, so I was like, you know I will let it be. It's okay, it's just money. Money is everywhere. Dean Henry: Exactly Gerald. Gerald Soh: Okay, so you have shared your biggest mistake with us. Now, what would you say is the most important thing that you have learned, and why? Tubeloom.com 6
Dean Henry: The most important thing? It's easy Gerald. Start building your list from day 1. Because that's how it's proven. If you have a bigger list, your income and success is proportionate to that. The bigger your list, the bigger your income. So if you drag on like what I did, that means your income will suffer as well. So build your list from day 1, forget what other people say, just build your list. Gerald Soh: Alright, I truly agree with you. I made the same mistake last time and I learn an expensive lesson. So, build a list from day 1. For those of you who have been watching this video, this tip alone will totally change your life. If there is one piece of advice that you remember from Dean, it should be to build your list starting from day number 1. Period. That's it. What are three important key elements or characters that you think are needed in order to become a successful marketer? Dean Henry: Okay, being in the corporate world, business world and also in this internet marketing, the most important thing that I see is that at the end of the day we are selling something. We are marketing something. In real life, people buy or people get from the people that they trust and like. One of the most important things that you can do in this industry is to build your credibility and your brand. If you cheat people, if there is a product that is not good, but you said it's good just for a measly $40 commission, or a measly $10 commission, it will drag you down in this industry because it's just not worth it. Number 1 is credibility, and number 2 is to step out from your comfort zone. Be comfortable with the uncomfortable. It works wonders. If you are comfortable with just article marketing, just sending 10 articles in 1 day and you get $500 a month from that. But that is all you do. So, your income is just that - $500. But if you break out from your comfort zone and you start doing things like interviews, product launches, approaching JVs, you will find that your income will grow exponentially. That's number 2, that's what I think. Number 3 is to simply provide value. Like I say, it ties with the first point. People will buy from who they like and trust, so in order for them to like and trust you, you need to give value. Value means something that is relevant to them, something that solves that problem they have, solves their pain points. Then at the end of the day if you ask for a sale, for example you have in your email marketing day 1 you said give value, day 2 give value, day 3 give value, day 4 value give value, and that day 5 if you ask for it if you ask for it, it's okay because you are doing it ethically and they are not offended also. So, that's the 3 things to what it makes a successful marketer in this industry. Tubeloom.com 7
Gerald Soh: Let me just recap, number 1 credibility, number 2 getting out from your comfort zone, and number 3 give value. Wow, I couldn't agree with you more. I want to share one thing with you and everyone here as well. I learned this strategy from Brendon Burchard, one of the New York Times best sellers, from his book called The Millionaire's Messenger. If you notice Brendon always records a new YouTube video every week, or every month, and they are free. Those are short videos, about 3 to 5 minutes, and there's ton of value in the video. Now, here's what happens, his concept here is simple. He gives so much value on free stuff, on the free course, on the free video, that when people consume it, when people watch the video, when people read the book, the free stuff, they will be like 'wow this is really good stuff!'. These are the stuff I can easily pay 50 to 100 bucks, and I can still feel that's very worth it. We give them this feeling, so when the time comes for you to pitch something to them, like your coaching program, which can be $197, $1,000 or $5,000, even $10,000, people will buy like crazy. Why? Because their mindset tells them that "Hey you know the free stuff from Brendon Burchard is already so awesome, so what about the paid stuff, what about your 5,000 dollars program. It has to be 5,000 times even more awesome!" Once I understood this concept, I tested it out myself. I gave myself a challenge to record one video every single day. So I remember, the first 4 days I just recorded 1 video a day. It was about 5 minutes per video, and just sharing good stuff with everyone. I'm talking about good stuff that I can easily charge $27 to $50, that kind of stuff. So I talked about Facebook marketing, I talked about internet marketing and things related to my expertise. For the first 4 days it was just free videos, and on the fifth day I informed that "hey there's a new program that I am about to launch soon! I will let you know more in a week, next few days" that kind of stuff. So, I kind of built up the hype, I built up the momentum. So then the next day, day number 6, because I was so eager to launch it, I don't even have an E-cover, I don't have a proper website or sales page of copy writing, nothing. So on day number 6, in the free video series I told them that "hey you know this program is available for sale right now, it's only $197!" and I told them if they are interested they can click on this link and you can go to another page. And the other page is this kind of video introduction of what they are going to get for $197 and just a Buy Now button. So there's no E-cover. I think the Members Area was just a simple one and there's nothing much there. I didn't even put a lot of effort to package the entire $197 program. And I remember I only got like 3 sales of $197 within 12 hours. Now, it's not much money, but for the amount of effort I put in it's amazing. Because it's not easy to sell a $197 product without an E-cover, without copy writing, without anything, without a pitch. Tubeloom.com 8
Dean Henry: Yes. Exactly Gerald. The perfect example of how they buy because they like you and they trust you. The higher your likability factor, or your trust factor, the more people will spend money on you. That's very true Gerald. Gerald Soh: But I tested it out, and it was amazing. It was amazing what happened. I was like wow, I can actually sell something without selling. I was just casually telling them hey I have this, are you interested? But I don't even have a E-cover, nothing! I was just casually asking them. So, alright Dean coming back to you right now. Do you have any final words of advice, or any words of wisdom for anyone watching this video? Any advice on how we can start making money online as soon as possible, or is there anything else you want to share with them? Dean Henry: Oh yes Gerald, one thing is to just sell. Don't be afraid to sell because we are in this industry to make money, and we are affiliate marketers after all, so we need to sell something. So don't be afraid to sell. Just go ahead and sell, but be truthful about it. That's where your credibility and trust factor comes into place. Number 2 is, when you find one thing that works for you stick with it, and have your blinkers on. Just put it here, and don't look left and right. Just do what is correct, what is working for you right now, and give it time. Eventually it will work and it will pay off handsomely, for you. I believe that to be so.
