Page 1 HINTS & TIPS GENERAL: Mixed Media by Pébéo paints may be used on Pébéo Liquid Art Panels, wood, artist grade composite wood surfaces (mdf and masonite), canvas, canvas panel, metal, glass, plastic, and paper. It is best to use papers of at least 90lb weight or 120gsm thickness and it is suggested, although not required, to coat the paper with gesso, paints or mediums before applying Pébéo Liquid paints. Wipe metal or glass surfaces with rubbing alcohol to remove dirt and oils before applying Pébéo paints. It can be helpful, although not required, to use an artist hand barrier cream when working with Mixed Media by Pébéo Studio Acrylics. It is advised to wear waterproof gloves when working with Mixed Media by Pébéo Liquid paints. Inclusions (such as mica flakes, sand, glass beads, glitter, etc.) may be added to the Mixed Media by Pébéo paints, as long as they do not exceed 25-30% of the paint by volume in order to maintain the paint film integrity. Inclusions added to Pébéo Liquid paints may fall to the bottom of the paint layer, so waiting until the paint layer becomes semi-firm, but not dry, before adding the inclusions may be desired. The Pébéo Vitrail Self Adhesive Lead Strip auxiliary is very bendable and can be used on a nonporous dry surface to create interesting designs, and can also be used to create enclosed barriers for containing Pébéo Liquid paints. The Lead Strip may be used as is or can be torn in half lengthwise by making a small cut on one end along the middle indent and pulling the two ends apart to create thinner strips. STUDIO ACRYLICS: Studio Acrylics colors and mediums are water based acrylic paints. They may be thinned with water or mixed with other mediums in the Studio Acrylics line to get thinner (Bindex), thicker (Gel Gloss or Gel Matte), or textured (Sand or Modeling Pastes) surfaces. Because these paints are water based, they may shrink while drying. It is recommended to test the thickness and coverage of the application and use multiple paint layers according to the desired effect. Studio Acrylics Bindex and Gel mediums can be used for collage painting; use Bindex for thinner elements and Gel medium Gloss or Matt for thicker elements. These mediums appear milky when wet and will dry clear. Matt Gel medium is also ideal under paints or inks as the textured surface it creates provides a nice toothy surface on which to draw or paint. To create transparent glazes, a small quantity of Studio Acrylics color(s) can be mixed with Studio Acrylics Gel Gloss, Gel Matt or Bindex using a painting knife. The mixed glaze will appear milky while wet and will dry clear.

Page 2 Studio Acrylics colors and mediums can be used with Pébéo Vitrail, Fantasy Prisme, Fantasy Moon and Ceramic Liquid colors. Simply allow the Studio Acrylics colors or mediums to dry prior to applying the Vitrail, Fantasy Prisme, Fantasy Moon and Ceramic colors. The opposite is also true. Studio Acrylics colors and mediums can be applied under Gédéo Resins. Simply allow the acrylic colors or mediums to dry prior to applying the resin. The opposite is also true, and the resin / acrylic / resin pattern can be repeated as many times as desired. For an interesting effect, it is also possible to drop Studio Acrylics from the tube into the wet resin and manipulate as desired, then both materials will air dry together. The application of Pébéo Vitrail, Fantasy Prisme, Fantasy Moon and Ceramic colors over dry applications of various Studio Acrylics colors and mediums and Gedeo Resins adds texture and dimensional effects to your creations. Use soapy water to clean brushes and painting knives used with Pébéo Studio Acrylics colors and mediums. LIQUID PAINTS (General): Protect surfaces with a waterproof cover before working with Pébéo Liquid paints. It is helpful to wear waterproof gloves when working with Pébéo oil-based and resin-based Liquid paints. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. When working with Pébéo Liquid paint products, it is best to paint on a flat, leveled surface. The use of a leveling tool is strongly recommended. Beautiful effects can be obtained, however, by tilting the painting surface to allow running and blending of the paints before setting them to dry in a leveled horizontal position. Pébéo Liquid Art Panels are an ideal surface for liquid paint pours as they have a sealed lip around the edge of the entire panel to capture the liquid paints. If desired, a liquid paint panel can be created by using the Vitrail Self-Adhesive Lead Strip auxiliary on a painting panel (for example a wood cradled panel) with smooth sides. Simply remove the backing from the Lead Strip to expose the adhesive, lay the Lead Strip (starting on a side, not in a corner) along the side of the panel with half of the Lead Strip protruding above the edge of the panel, and work in sections to rub against the Lead Strip with the included burnishing tool assuring a good seal against the panel sides. When the two sides of the Lead Strip meet, cut the strip with scissors or a blade and burnish the strip to slightly overlap the two ends. Test the panel to be sure there are no leaks by filling with a small amount of water. When the panel created holds all the water, pour the water out and assure the panel is dry before pouring in the Pébéo Liquid paint products. The Pébéo Disposable Droppers plastic pipettes accessory can be used to deposit Pébéo Liquid paint products on any surface in a controlled manner. If desired, the pipettes can be cleaned with odorless mineral spirits or turpentine (white spirits). LIQUID ALKYDS: Pébéo Vitrail, Fantasy Moon, Fantasy Prisme and Ceramic Liquid paints are oil-based alkyd paints in a solvent suspension, therefore, they should be used in a well-ventilated area.

Page 3 Combined with one another, Pébéo Vitrail, Fantasy Prisme, Fantasy Moon and Ceramic colors create magnificent contrasting effects merging various degrees of texture, intensity, transparency, opacity and opalescence. Pébéo Fantasy Prisme or Fantasy Moon effect colors contain mica particles that settle to the bottom of the bottle when sitting, therefore, these paints must be thoroughly stirred using a wooden stick or pointed end of a paint brush before using in order to achieve the paint s special effects. Pébéo Ceramic pearl and metallic colors and Vitrail pearl and metallic colors also contain mica and should be stirred before use. The thicker the application of Pébéo Fantasy Prisme or Fantasy Moon special effect colors, the larger and more defined the self-manipulating effects will be. A thinner application will generate smaller, more subtle effects. When applying Pébéo Fantasy Moon and Fantasy Prisme colors with a brush, assure the layer of paint is thick enough to allow the mica content to create the special effects. If the layer of paint is too thin, the paints will not self-manipulate to the desired special effect. The combination of Pébéo Fantasy Moon and Fantasy Prisme colors used together changes the properties of both paints and produces a lacy, ethereal effect. Pébéo Vitrail paint colors are highly pigmented and concentrated transparent and opaque colors. They may be lightened using Vitrail Lightening Medium in any proportion and mixed in the empty Pébéo Mixing Bottle accessory. Custom color transparent glazes can be mixed using a large percentage of Vitrail Lightening Medium to Vitrail paint color(s) (for example 95% medium to 5% color), which can be applied over any of the dry Mixed Media by Pébéo products. Vitrail glazes lend a glass-like sheen, and are especially beautiful when used over dried Studio Acrylics colors. Pébéo Ceramic paint colors are rich and thick opaque colors. They may be lightened using Ceramic Lightening Medium in any proportion and mixed in the empty Pébéo Mixing Bottle accessory. If it is desired to use Pébéo Ceramic paints over a porous surface, it is suggested to cover the porous surface first with Ceramic Filler Undercoat and allow to dry before applying the paint color. After using Pébéo Vitrail, Fantasy Prisme, Fantasy Moon and Ceramic colors, clean brushes and droppers thoroughly with odorless mineral spirits or turpentine (white spirits) and rinse with soapy water. CERNE RELIEF: The Cerne Relief paint colors may be used as a dimensional painting accent over any dry Mixed Media by Pébéo products. Cerne Relief paint will dry in about an hour depending on the thickness of the paint application, and room temperature and humidity. Depending on the pressure applied to the Pébéo Cerne Relief dimensional paint tube, thin or thick lines, as well as interesting dimensional paint textures can be achieved. Use the Pébéo Cerne Relief dimensional paint to create outlines for containing Vitrail, Fantasy Moon, Fantasy Prisme, Ceramic and Gédéo Resins Liquid paint colors. Cerne Relief paints can also be used to create interesting patterns in wet Mixed Media by Pébéo paints.

Page 4 Prior to using the Pébéo Cerne Relief dimensional paint, the seal at the opening of the tube must be broken. To proceed, remove the cap and nozzle from the tube and use the black cap to pierce a hole through the seal, wipe off any paint on the black cap, then replace the nozzle and cap onto the tube. When using the Pébéo Cerne Relief dimensional paint, remember to properly secure the black cap back onto the tube after each use to avoid the paint drying in the nozzle. Replacement nozzle accessories are available if needed. LIQUID GÉDÉO RESINS: With Gédéo Resins, it is necessary to work on a leveled surface and to follow the recommended mixing quantities on the box carefully. Wear waterproof gloves (a pair is provided in the box) and avoid skin and eye contact. If it is desired to have the resin application run off the sides of the artwork surface, elevating the surface by putting a box or similar item under the artwork that leaves the sides suspended and not touching any surface may be helpful. Be sure to cover the worktable with a waterproof tarp to capture the resin run-off. To determine the quantity of any mixed Gédéo Resin to cover a surface with a 1/16 inch thickness, measure as follows: Measure the length and width of the surface in inches Multiply the two numbers (length in x width in = area) Multiply the area by 0.04375 (area x 0.04375) The result is the total amount of Resin to make in ounces (oz)* * To convert ounces to milliliters, simply multiply by 29.574 For example: 8 in x 10 in = 80 sq.in. 80 sq.in. x 0.04375 = 3.5 oz 3.5 oz x 29.574 = about 103 ml Hint: Take the total amount of resin needed in milliliters (ml) and divide by 3. The result will equal one dose of hardener (total ml 3 = 1 dose). Follow dosage instructions in the box to properly mix the 2 part Resin. After using the 30 ml plastic measuring cups to measure and pour the Resin and Hardener, wipe the cup excess with a paper towel or cloth. After wiping the cups, wash with soap and water and set aside to dry. The plastic measuring cups may be reused. It can be helpful to mix Gédéo clear and transparent color Resins in a clear plastic cup. Since the two combined parts of Resin and Hardener become cloudy when first mixed, and become transparent when thoroughly mixed, the clear mixing cup makes determining when the Resin mixture is ready to use easier. Gédéo clear Glazing Resin may be applied as a coating top layer over dried artworks on painted wood, glass, ceramic, metal, plastic, canvas panel and paper. When mixed, the resin is thick enough to self-level, yet create a rounded finish at the edge. Gently push the resin to the edge of the work with the wooden spatula included in the box. For this type of application it is important to work on a leveled and elevated surface. Gédéo Glazing Resin can be used in patterns on a piece to create dimensional or magnifying glass effects. Simply mix the resin components using the box instructions and allow to rest until it reaches a thicker consistency (to gain control over the product as a painting medium) and prevent it from self-

Page 5 leveling when applied onto the surface. The more viscous resin can then be applied using a plastic dropper or the tip of a wooden spatula as a design element over the chosen areas of the work. To create colorful abstract artworks with stunning depth and brilliance, simply pour Gédéo Crystal, Color and Pearl resins into Pébéo Liquid Art Panels. Adding Gédéo Pearl Resins into transparent Gédéo Crystal and Color Resins creates amazing striated effects. Gédéo Crystal and Color Resins can be used as a protective coating on most surfaces or simply poured over completely dry Studio Acrylic, Fantasy, Vitrail and Ceramic colors (dried a minimum of 7 days) to add depth and brilliance to creations. Gédéo Crystal and Color Resins are thin and have water-like self-leveling properties, so depending on the depth of the resin desired, they may require an edge to contain them. They pour beautifully into Pébéo Liquid Art Panels, or a surface edge may be created with tape to contain the poured resin. Test a taped edge by filling the space with water to assure there are no leaks, then dry thoroughly before pouring resin. In addition, the Vitrail Self-Adhesive Lead Strip may be used to create an edge for a wooden artist panel; see details in the Liquid Paints (General) section above. Gédéo clear Crystal Resin may be tinted with up to 10% Vitrail or Ceramic colors. Note that the resin becomes semi-transparent or semi-opaque, respectively, after the addition of the colors. Using more than 10% color may cause the resin to remain tacky after it has cured. All Gédéo Resins are completely cured in approximately 24 hours at a depth of 1/16 to 1/8 inch or 2-3 mm. Up to 72 hours is required to cure thicker applications, which also depends on room temperature and humidity. Gédéo Resins can be sanded once hard. It is recommended to sand resin in a well-ventilated area, wearing eye protection and a face mask to cover nose and mouth. Wipe up the resin dust with a damp paper towel or cloth. Bring the sanded resin surface back to a shine by painting with Pebeo Studio Acrylics Gel Gloss medium or paint with any desired acrylic color. GÉDÉO MIRROR EFFECT LEAF & GILDING PASTE: Gédéo Mirror Effect Metal Leaves are a fun and simple way to add dimensional high-gloss mirror effects for enhancing selected areas of artworks. The effect is applied by using Gédéo Mixtion Relief Gilding Paste to create a design on the work surface, allowing the Gilding Paste is completely dry (it will become transparent and tacky), then laying the Mirror Leaf (also known as transfer foil) sheet shiny color up over the paste design and lightly rubbing with a finger or cotton ball over the leaf surface. When the leaf is removed, the exciting mirror effect design is revealed. Prior to using the Gédéo Mixtion Relief Gilding Paste, the seal at the opening of the tube must be broken. To proceed, remove the cap and nozzle from the tube and use the black cap to pierce a hole through the seal. Note that a portion of the paste may exit the tube when the seal is broken, so it is suggested to perform this step over a paper towel or cleaning cloth so the expelled paste can be captured. Wipe off the paste on the black cap, then replace the nozzle and cap onto the tube. When using the Gédéo Mixtion Relief Gilding Paste, remember to properly secure the black cap back onto the tube after each use to avoid the paste drying in the nozzle. Replacement nozzle accessories are available if needed. The Gédéo Mixtion Relief Gilding Paste tends to shrink while drying. Anticipate the thickness and coverage of the application according to the desired effect. Keep the Mirror Effect Metal Leaf design on the artwork fresh for archiving with UV inhibiting varnish.
