Efficient coupling of power line carrier signals into high voltage transmission lines. CL02/CL03 Application Transfer-trip and line relaying Directional or phase comparison Voice communication CL03 Efficient coupling of PLC signals to power lines CL02B are resonant line tuners CL03A are wide band line tuners CL02 DESCRIPTION Line tuning equipment, associated coupling capacitors, and line traps provide an efficient means to couple power line carrier (PLC) signals onto a high voltage overhead transmission line or power cable. Line tuners are also used in carrier bypass circuits to route PLC signals around discontinuities, such as transformers, breakers, and disconnect switches. The CL02B and CL03A are designed to deliver maximum power to the high voltage line at the selected PLC frequencies and to attenuate unwanted frequencies. All tuners provide a very high attenuation to 60 Hz currents and voltages. An impedance matching transformer (IMT) in the tuner allows matching of various overhead line impedances to the low coaxial cable and equipment impedance. This provides a high return loss path, or low reflective power, in the desired passband range of frequencies. A low impedance IMT is available for power cable applications. Resonant and wide-band line tuners provide a choice of frequency ranges and power ratings in various coupling arrangements. The entire PLC frequency range, from 30 to 500 khz can be accommodated. Power ratings up to 200 W are available. Wide-band tuners are available with up to five resonant circuits for maximum coupling bandwidth for power cables, and for use with small coupling capacitors at lower carrier frequencies. Each line tuner is housed in an outdoor cabinet. Page 1-1 Data subject to change without notice
