R&TTE Testing For EU Market Derek Y W Leung IEEE Hong Kong EMC Chapter Committee Member 1 R&TTE Directive 1999/5/EC Directive 1999/5/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 1999 on Radio equipment & Telecommunications Terminal Equipment and the mutual recognition of their conformity 2

R&TTE Directive R&TTE directive applies to: Radio Equipment & Telecommunications Terminal Equipment connected to a public network 3 Exclusion in R&TTE Directive Marine equipment under Directive 96/98/EC Cable and wiring. Sound and TV broadcast receivers. Civil aviation and air-traffic-management equipment. Apparatus used exclusively for activities concerning public security, defence, State security. 4

Article 3.1a Safety Requirements - LV directive and standards concerning health and safety for user and any other person. Article 3.1b EMC - Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive. Article 3.2 Spectrum - Efficient spectrum usage. 5 Frequency Allocations for Short Range Devices (SRDs) in Europe CEPT ( European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations), working within the Electronic Communications Committee (CEPT-ECC), co-operate to harmonise their National regulations. The ECC Short-Range Devices Maintenance Group (SRDMG) maintains ERC Recommendation 70-03, which CEPT Administrations are encouraged to implement in order to maximise freedom of movement for radiocommunications equipment CEPT Recommendations and Decisions can be downloaded from the European Radiocommunications Office web site http://www.ero.dk/ 6
