INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS WARNING! Ladder Sections Lock When Closed. Do Not Install or Close Ladder Sections without a Fully Operational Handle and insuring that Opening Handle Up to 10" Top 6-10" below top of ladder 1. Determine ladder location generally 10 inches or less from window or door or 18-24 from edge of balcony. 2. Set footer at base of ladder location. Footer can be any solid surface preferably a poured slab 18 x 30 but splash tiles, pavers, etc. can also be used. 3. Identify overall height of ladder. (Note Line 2 of Packing List or measure back side of ladder sections.) Top Chalk Line If ladder is to be installed above a rooftop, deck or parapet, a rooftop overshoot section may have been ordered to reinforce the portion of the ladder extending above the last anchor point. If so, go to page 10 for instructions. Footer Bottom Approx. 30" 4. Attach top mounting bracket to wall approx. 6-12 below top of ladder. Fully tighten expansion bolt or lag screw. (2)
WARNING! Ladder Sections Lock When Closed. Do Not Install or Close Top 5, Drop (snap) a chalk line from top anchor bolt to the ground. Bottom Footer Approx. 30" Approx. 5' apart or two brackets per section Top 6. Attach bottom mounting bracket on chalk line approx. 30 from ground. Fully tighten bolt or lag screw. 6. Space and install remaining brackets between top & bottom brackets. (Approx. 5 intervals) insuring two brackets per ladder section except on less than 5 top sections. DO NOT FULLY TIGHTEN ANCHOR BOLTS OR LAG SCREWS YET! Approx. 30" Taut Line Bottom Footer (Align brackets to taut line) 7. Stretch taut line from one side of top bracket to same side of bottom bracket. 8. Align all intermediate brackets with taut line. Fully tighten anchor bolts or lag screws. (3)
WARNING! Ladder Sections Lock When Closed. Do Not Install or Close Shipping Bolt (Move Opening Slide) Mounting Block (Trunnion) IF GROUND LEVEL HANDLE IS TO BE INSTALLED, GO TO HANDLE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE PROCEEDING. 9. Attach mounting blocks (trunnions) to one side of mounting brackets. (Use stainless steel bolts & washers provided Finger Tighten Only!) 10. Locate base section (Bottom end is enclosed with stainless steel base plate.) 11. If ground level handle is to be installed, go to handle installation instructions before continuing. 12. Remove shipping bolt from top rear of base ladder section. 13. Move opening slide to release locking clips and open ladder section. 14. Stand base ladder section and rotate rear of ladder into mounting blocks on two lower mounting brackets. (4)
WARNING! Ladder Sections Lock When Closed. Do Not Install or Close 15. Slide mounting blocks into position on opposite side of ladder and finger tighten bolts. 16. Locate Intermediate or Top Section. If top section is to be installed in rooftop overshoot section, return to page 10. IF OPENING HANDLE IS TO BE INSTALLED, GO TO HANDLE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE PROCEEDING. Shipping Bolt 17. If Opening Handle is to be installed, go to handle installation instructions before continuing. 18. Remove Shipping Bolt. Open Ladder Section. (Move Opening Slide) (5)
WARNING! Ladder Sections Lock When Closed. Do Not Install or Close Loosen Only 19. Remove & save all connecting bolts, nuts & washers from joining plates on front, rear, top & bottom of ladder section. Remove & Save 20. Lift and place ladder section on top of base section rotating to engage mounting blocks on brackets. 21. Slide mounting blocks into position on opposite side of ladder and finger tighten bolts. 22. Lower section to engage joining plates in the extruded channels on the rear of the ladder sections. Attach and fully tighten nuts, washers and bolts. (6)
WARNING! Ladder Sections Lock When Closed. Do Not Install or Close 23. Lower forward leg of ladder and engage joining plates in extruded channels. Attach and fully tighten nuts, washers and bolts. 24. Lower safety rail to engage joining plate in extruded channel. Attach and fully tighten nuts, washers and bolts. VERY IMPORTANT! Do Not Overlook! (This joining plate connects the opening slides. Handles will not work without this connection!) 25. Very Important! When joining sections, the joining plate for the opening slide must be removed from the upper section where it is attached (2 bolts with washers and nuts) and must be repositioned and connected to the opening slide of the lower section! WARNING! Ladder Sections Lock When Closed. Do Not Install or Close 26. If handle is installed, turn handle to make sure the handle turns easily and the opening slide operates smoothly without binding between ladders sections. (If opening slide does not move freely, check plumb of ladder both front and side-to-side.) 27. Continue to add ladder sections repeating the previous steps. (Cut off safety rail if above section) 28. If Safety Rail extends above top section, (only on ladder sizes J01, J11, J24 & J31), cut rail off even with end of ladder section. 1. Opening Slide 2. Slide Spool 3. Spring 4. Opening Slide Stop 29. Install rain cap using bolts provided. 30. Attach spring in base section to tension opening slide. (8)
R WARNING! Ladder Sections Lock When Closed. Do Not Install or Close 31. Test handle(s) again to insure smooth operation. Then, close ladder and check operation. 32. Recheck plumb of ladder & tighten all bolts. Turn Handle Open Ladder 33. Installing Guard Rail Tab: With the ladder in the open position, position the RED TAB (found in the handle mechanism package) on the outside edge of the guard rail directly opposite each installed handle. Mark position of holes. Using a 1/4 inch drill bit, drill holes. With Pop-Rivet tool, attach RED TAB using pop-rivets (supplied). Deploy Guard Rail Descend 34. Fix Pictogram Decal on inside of window or door where ladder will be accessed. 35. Fix Handle decal above opening handle at each access point. 36. Remove protective plastic covering from stainless steel base plate. (9) That s it! You re Done!
Installation Instruction for Rooftop Overshoot Section 1. Align the reinforcement channel with the lower mounting brackets. B 4 Ft. 4 Ft. A 2. a: attach overshoot section with custom expansion bolts or stainless steel screws (provided). b: Attach right angle reinforcementbraces. 3. Replace joining plates on top section with plates in mounting hardware. Install replacement plates on outside of ladder section to allow sections to be joined by screwing from the inside of the sections. 4. Attach mounting blocks to one side of reinforcement channel and insert the top ladder section. Fit top section into lower ladder section. 5. Slide the mounting blocks on the other side between channel and ladder section. Attach bolts and tighten. 6. Join ladder sections by attaching joining sections to section already installed. 7. Install the upper release handle above the reinforcement channel. (10)

Remove bolt (20) at bottom of ladder section and push slide up to open ladder (Fig. A). B. Brace ladder open with 10 1/2-inch length of wood (Fig. B). (IMPORTANT! Insure brace is properly positioned since ladder is spring-loaded. Hand injury may occur if ladder closes unexpectedly.) After bracing, realign opening slide. C. Select appropriate pilot hole (13) for handle installation & mount template (11). (Fig. C) Drill three 1/4-inch holes. Discard template and expand center hole to 1/2-inch. E. Snap back shaft retainer(2) into slot (Fig. D). E 6 19 F. Insert rackrail [(19) Fig. E] into slide (18), tongue toward top of ladder. G. Attach handle (14) to release shaft (3) using slotted pin (16). (For ground-level removable handle, omit this step!) H. Insert release shaft (3) through Front shaft retainer (1). Slip on Cam (4) with lobe up and Set Screw (5) forward. Slip on Pinion gear (6) as in Fig. E. Slip on Ejector (8) and Spacer (9) and through Back shaft retainer (2). I. With handle pointing toward top of ladder, tighten Cam (4) on Release shaft (3) making sure Set Screw (5) is seated in pre-drilled hole. D. Mount front shaft retainer (1) (finger tight) to ladder using threaded rail(17) and Allen bolt J. Tighten bolts on Front shaft retainer (1). (22) provided. If holes do not align, reverse rail. K. Tamp grove (21) on each side of Back shaft retainer to lock in place (Fig. F). F 2 18 21
