Tucker Moist Clay Blends Please note: Tucker Clay blends may be combined with full bag weights of raw materials or clays by other Mfgs. for price breaks. Other Tucker clays are available by special order (indicated in bold). Allow up to 90 days for special orders. e a r t h e n w a r e s Low White 06-02 This is a smooth, all-purpose talc body which fires very white. It has been 04 10% 11.5% designed to accept most commercial low-fire glazes and to stand up to the abuses of the classroom. Low White is also used a great deal by mold makers to make models because of its smooth texture and low shrinkage. Low Red 06-02 Low Red is used more as a throwing clay although many of our customers 04 12% 8% use it for handbuilding. It is a much stronger body when fired than most earthenwares. 02-20 06-02 This clay has been designed to feel more like a stoneware than an 04 10.0% 10.5% earthenware body so it is used most often by throwers working in low fire. It does not contain any talc. The grogged version contains 5% of 30-80 mesh grog. Both clays fire quite white. Smooth Raku 06-02 A light firing beautiful throwing body which has been designed to 04 7% withstand the stresses of raku without the addition of grog. Total shrinkage at Cone 6: 12.5% Absorption at Cone 6: 0.4% m i d - r a n g e s t o n e w a r e s CCSS (Speckled) 6 This body fires reddish tan with dark specks produced by the small amount 6 14.5% 2.5% of granular manganese. It is very responsive and trims with ease. It contains 8% of 30-80 mesh grog. Mid Cal 5 6 This body is similar to Mid Cal Grogless with the addition of 5% of 30-80 6 16% 2% mesh grog for those who like a clay with more tooth. This aids in the production of larger work and with ease of drying. Mid Smooth Stone Speck 6 This body is similar to Mid Cal Grogless with the addition of 5% of 30-80 6 16% 2% mesh grog for those who like a clay with more tooth. This aids in the production of larger work and with ease of drying. Dark Mid Cal 5 6 This body is very similar to Mid Cal 5 but fires to a darker brown color at 6 16% 1.5% Cone 6 oxidation. The higher iron content helps some glazes to develop richer shades. Mid Smooth Stone 6 This body is a very smooth, plastic clay with no grog or coarse fireclay in the 6 14.5% 1.5% formula. It fires to an off-cream color at Cone 6 oxidation. Mid Smooth Stone is designed as a throwing clay but it is also used for handbuilding when a smooth clean surface is required. Glazes are not muted at all. This is a good compromise between stoneware and porcelain. 2

Tucker Moist Clay Blends m i d - r a n g e s t o n e w a r e s Mid White 6 This body fires to a warm grey white at Cone 6 oxidation and is used 6 15.5% 2% extensively for both throwing and handbuilding. It is a fireclay-based body with a non-sticky feel. 5% of 30-80 mesh grog helps to make it an excellent dryer. Mid Red 6 This is a fairly smooth body with just 5% of 30-80 mesh grog for some tooth. 6 15.5% 2.5% Mid Red is a very responsive throwing clay which fires to a strong red color. h i g h - f i r e s t o n e w a r e s Sandstone 9-10 Sandstone is a very popular high-fire stoneware. It fires stony grey at 10 14.5%.7% Cone 10 reduction and light grey at Cone 10 oxidation. It is a superb throwing 10o 12.0% 3.0% clay with a small amount of fireclay and 5% of 30-80 mesh grog to aid in drying. Pro-Stone 9-10 This body has been designed for the professional production potter. It fires 10r 14% 1% to a buff colour in oxidation and a warm brown in reduction. Contains many 10o 12.0% 3.0% raw materials to minimize changes caused by varying ingredients. It contains 5% of 30-80 mesh grog and can be used for throwing, handbuilding, pressing, extruding etc. Smooth Stone 9-10 This body fires to a light grey in reduction and greyish cream at Cone 10 10r 16%.5% oxidation. It is a very smooth plastic clay with no grog or coarse clay in the 10o 12.0% 3.0% formula. It is designed as a smooth throwing body but it is also used for handbuilding when a clean surface is required. A good compromise between stoneware and porcelain. It has a higher expansion which will help prevent crazing in glazes. Dark Stone 9-10 Fires to a tan colour in oxidation and to a quite dark red-brown in reduction. 10r 13% 1.3% It has 5% of 30/80 mesh grog and works well as a throwing or handbuilding 10o 14% 1.2% Brown Sculpture 9-10 This body fires tan at Cone 10 oxidation, and to a beautiful red-brown at 10r 12.5% 3% Cone 10 reduction. It is a rough textured body intended for handbuilding 10o 12.5% 3.5% larger pieces. It contains 25% of 30-80 mesh grog but is still quite plastic. White Sculpture 9-10 This is a coarse handbuilding clay which was originally designed for large 10r 12.0% 1.0% sculptures. It contains 25% of 30-80 mesh grog so it is suitable for pieces 10o 12.0% 3.0% with large cross sections. It does not contain any fireclays so it fires quite white at Cone 05 or in raku. At Cone 10 reduction it is a strong grey and in oxidation it is grey-white. 3

Tucker Moist Clay Blends p o r c e l a i n s MCS 6 This is our most popular cone 6 porcelain. It is a smooth robust, plastic body 6 14.5%.5% which fires white. Although it is used mainly as a throwing body it can be used to handbuild small-to-medium-sized pieces. Bright White 6 This is our whitest cone 6 porcelain ever. It has been formulated using the 6 13.5% 1% whitest domestic kaolins with small additions of ball clay to give you a very workable, bright white clay body. Mid Porcelain 5 6 This body is very similar to MCS but with an addition of 5% of minus 6 13.5%.5% 75-mesh silica sand. This provides the tooth necessary for handbuilding larger items and aids in drying. p o r c e l a i n s HHP 9-10 This body fires very white at Cone 10 oxidation and a little grey in reduction. 10r 13.5%.3% It is a classic high-kaolin, low-ball clay porcelain for throwing and 10o 12.0% 3.0% handbuilding. It is particularly easy to trim and dry and is known as a trouble-free body. 10-85 9-10 A classic porcelain made with a combination of the finest North American 10r 14.5%.1% kaolins. A very small addition of a white firing ball clay is included for 10o 13.0% 3.0% workability. It fires very white at Cone 10 oxidation, slightly grey in reduction with good translucency. 10-86 9-10 This is a premium Grolleg-based porcelain which fires very white, with 10r 15.0% 0% excellent translucency. It is completely vitrified at Cone 10 to aid in 10o 14.0% 0% translucency so care must be taken not to overfire. It contains no ball clay. p a p e r c l a y s Mid Smooth Stone P Clay 6 Originally designed as a throwing body, the addition of paper pulp makes 6 15.5% 7% this smooth stoneware ideal for handbuilding and sculptural projects. A light cream colour when fired, this clay will not mute your glaze colours. MCS P Clay 6 The base body has been a favorite Cone 6 plastic porcelain for many years. 6% 15.5% 7% The addition of paper pulp makes it possible to forget all the rules while producing medium-sized pieces. The fired body is white. 4
