An Introduction To WHI WHI has built its success and reputation upon dedication to high standards of quality and service. Recognizing the need for a greater selection of mouldings, custom millwork and high-quality stair parts in the market, WHI has filled this void by stocking a wide variety of top-quality, custom-designed mouldings, popular styles of doors, stair parts and dimensioned lumber. Products formerly available only through custom order are now priced and dispatched as stock products. A special millwork department is also geared to produce custom products in nearly the same time as stock deliveries. Combine all of this with personalized service that includes individual sales, onsite pricing, footage estimates and design consultation. It is obvious why WHI has enjoyed healthy, continuous growth since its establishment in 1985. WHI is continuing to grow; this is reflected in the 30,000 square foot addition to our manufacturing facility, a 2,000 square foot addition to our corporate office, a 25,000 square foot expansion in our pre-hung door department and continued expansion in our number of warehouses. Campbellsville, Kentucky is home to our corporate and operations office along with our main warehousing and manufacturing facilities. General Information This catalog represents WHI s complete line of mouldings, stocked and available for immediate delivery. In order to assist you in the planning and selection process, the catalog lists product numbers, dimensions, and wood species for each product, and unless otherwise noted, each profile has been drawn full scale. Custom profiles and other wood species are also available by custom order. For a complete listing of products and services available through WHI, please turn to the product list pages located at the end of this catalog, ask your WHI account executive, or visit our website at www.wholesalehardwoodint.com. Moulding Tips Before finishing, lightly sand all material. Due to moisture control issues, we recommend that all surfaces and edges be finished as quickly as possible. It is recommended to keep all interior mouldings and millwork ( while on the job site ) inside a humidity controlled area. To ensure proper moisture content, it is best to allow the material to acclimate for several days prior to installation. If you are unable to store the material in a humidity controlled area, please keep the material off the floor. This will help prevent the material from gaining moisture from uncured concrete or a wood floor with a higher moisture content. When those conditions exist it is best to use a vapor barrier such as a sheet of plastic to cover the material on top and bottom when it is not in use. Lengths All clear hardwood species are supplied in random lengths between 3 and 16 depending on the item. Due to these random lengths in clear species, it is acceptable to ship up to 10% overage. Finger joint poplar material is supplied in 14 through 16 lengths, also depending on the item. Finger joint items may have up to 5% of the lengths shorter than 14 and 16. MDF and Ultra-Light is typically 16 in length. Some casing profiles also come in 7 precuts, 10 and 14 lengths. 3

Ultra-Light Fiber Board General Information Advantages of Gesso-Coated Ultra-Light The Extrusion Process Extrusion technology, Gesso, offers a significant quality increase from traditional paint-based priming systems. This process provides a better surface for applying finish coats, resulting in a higher quality finished product. Solvent and water-based paint systems are compatible with extrusion priming and offer excellent adhesion properties. Machining and sanding are performed easily on the extruded primer. The extrusion process transfers to the primed millwork market the characteristics of the high quality pre-finish demanded in the picture frame industry. Ultra-Light 100% Radiata Pine fiber. Engineered for machining. Miters, cuts, and copes cleaner than pine. High Solid Content, Water-Based Primer Primer has the consistency of putty or wood filler when applied. Premium Prime surface requires less prep-work and sanding. Ultra-Light Installation Guidelines It is important to store Ultra-Light mouldings on the jobsite flat, and up off the floor to prevent material from getting wet and drawing moisture. When ripping, cutting or routing Ultra-Light, carbide tipped blades and/or cutter heads are strongly recommended. Pneumatic fastening systems with the air pressure set at 60-80 PSI works best. The types of fasteners that work best on Ultra-Light are 16-18 gauge finish nails. Smooth shank nails are not recommended. However, it is up to the installer to decide what works best for his own application. Ultra-Light is a man-made product that is excellent for face nailing. Edge nailing is not recommended. The use of a fast drying adhesive such as our Kwik-Bond Adhesive and Activator, helps to prevent the separation of mitered corners. Another option for applying casing around doors and windows is to use casing corner blocks. In this application, the use of glue is not required. Safety Recommendations Wear a dust mask to minimize wood dust particle effects. Ultra-Light Finishing Guidelines for Best Results Finishing Recommendations Putty - Solvent based (spot prime area if using latex paints.) Caulk - Slow dry acrylic latex. Caulk along edges of millwork where required. Paint - Any high quality oil-based or acrylic latex paint may be used. Fill and seal all nail holes. Lightly sand with fine grit sandpaper or a piece of scotchbrite. Wipe down the surface of the moulding that is going to be painted with a tack cloth to remove any excess dust left from sanding. Apply the first coat of premium paint. 45
