PF91 Thelma Thomson fonds. -- Reproduced 2007. -- 3 cm of textual records, 49 photographs (tiff) : b&w and col., 1 photograph : b&w ; 19.7 x 50.8 cm Biographical/Sketch/Administrative History Thelma Bernice Kerr was born in Toronto, Ontario, on September 27th, 1922. She attended Allenby Public School, Forest Hill Village School, and Branksome Hall School. She attended the University of Toronto, where she earned a B.A. degree in law in 1946, and an LL.B. degree in 1948. She was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Fraternity and the Alpha Mu Chapter of Kappa Beta Pi Legal Sorority. She attended Osgoode Hall Law School and was called to the Bar of Ontario on September 15th, 1949. She married David Moffatt Thomson (1921-1988) in 1949, and together they opened a legal practice in Lindsay, Ontario. In January of 1974, David Thomson was appointed a County Court judge in Windsor, Ontario. Thelma Thomson has been active in several community organizations including the Jury Service for Women Committee, the Ross Memorial Hospital (Lindsay), the Lindsay Kinsmen Boys Band, the Lindsay Art Guild, the Lady Hughes Chapter of the I.O.D.E., and has been involved with both the provincial and federal Liberal parties. Fonds consists of records created and accumulated by Thelma Kerr Thomson. Records in the fonds relate to her time as a student at the University of Toronto, her call to the Bar and legal career (and to a lesser extent, the legal career of her husband, David Moffatt Thomson), and her personal life. Included in the fonds are digital copies of photographs, and photocopies of a scrapbook, press clippings, correspondence, ephemera and other textual material. The originals of the records range in date from 1942 to 2005. Provenance In March of 2007, Thelma Thomson met with Sophia Sperdakos (secretary to the Heritage Committee) to discuss her legal career and the possibility of her writing her memoirs. At the meeting, Thomson loaned the records in this fonds to the Law Society of Upper Canada Archives so copies could be produced. Staff of the Archives photocopied the records and scanned the photographs. Access to the photocopied client case file is closed. Access to all other records is open.
