Think Ink Conductive Paint Technical Data Sheet Contact Think Ink Factory, Wijekoon House, Madipola, Matale, Sri Lanka. Description Think Ink Conductive Paint is available in 25ml and 200ml. Think Ink Conductive Paint is a non-toxic, water based, water soluble, electrically conductive paint. Think Ink Conductive Paint will adhere to a wide variety of substrates and is easily removed with water. Think Ink Conductive Paint is silver grey in colour and can be over-painted with any material compatible with a water-based paint. Advantages More electrically conductive than similar products Nontoxic Water-soluble Works with low voltage DC power sources Works with low voltage AC power sources Can be used to power small devices Can be used as an interface to other electronics Can be used as a potentiometer Can be used to electroplate non conductive surfaces Can be used as a capacitor Can be used as a transformer Can be used as an amplifier Can be used as an actuator Compatible with many standard printing processes Can be used by makers, hobbyists, children, teachers and professionals alike

Typical Properties Colour: Viscosity: Density: Surface Resistivity: Vehicle: Shelf Life Unopened: Drying Temperature: Silver Grey Highly viscous 1.16 g/ml 11 Ω/Sq @ 50 microns. Water-based 6 Months Think Ink Conductive Paint should be allowed to dry at room temperature. Drying time can be reduced by placing Think Ink Conductive Paint under a warm lamp or other low intensity heat source like on the top of the radiator. Application Tips Think Ink Conductive Paint can be applied in a whole host of ways, from paintbrushes and rollers to common printing processes like screen-printing. To achieve consistent performance it is best to apply Think Ink Conductive Paint in an even layer. If you re interested in screen printing Think Ink Conductive Paint, it is best to use a textile-type screen in order to achieve a generous layer thickness. Power Source Think Ink Conductive Paint is meant for use with low voltage DC and AC power sources and has not been tested with sources exceeding 12V. Higher voltages are not recommended. Substrates Drying Think Ink Conductive Paint is a water-based paint and is much like other water based paints you might be familiar with. Think Ink Conductive Paint sticks well to wood, paper, some plastics, corks, textiles and metal. Hydrophobic materials like glass and some plastics won t work very well but you can try and improve it by roughing the surface with sandpaper. Think Ink Conductive Paint is fast drying at room temperature. The paint dries rather than cures and doesn t give off fumes as it dries. Drying time can be reduced a little by placing the painted design near a low intensity heat source such as a heat lamp or radiator. Subjecting Think Ink Conductive Paint to a high temperature environment like your oven is not a good idea as it will negatively affect both physical and electrical performance and characteristics.

Flexibility Think Ink Conductive Paint is slightly flexible, but this flexibility depends on two things, the layer thickness and what you put it on. Regardless of substrate, a consistently thin layer of paint creates the most flexible circuitry. Areas of paint with wide variation in thickness tend to break more easily. Substrates which are flexible, but not stretchy (like paper) work better than materials like Lycra which stretch all over the place. Cold Soldering Think Ink Conductive Paint works well as a cold solder joint. Whether used to solder a surface mount or through-hole component onto a circuit board, or to stick a component to a piece of paper, the paint is strong and almost infinitely repairable. This means that components can be harvested from projects, cleaned and reused. Resistance samples Think Ink Conductive Paint is a new material and as there are so many ways to use Think Ink Conductive Paint raw technical data is not always the best way to help. This data sheet is trying to give you as much information as you need in order to get down to it and get your project off the ground as quickly as possible. Below you will find a series of samples that we painted on glass which indicates the amount of electrical resistance (measured end to end) which you should expect from a given area of Think Ink Conductive Paint. This assumes a reasonably thin layer of material. Basically, we painted them onto the glass with an ordinary brush straightened the lines with a ruler and pin and measured the resistance end to end the figures are shown next to the line along with the sizes of the boxes we drew.

70x3mm 44Ω 110x3mm 65Ω 130x3mm 75Ω 20x15mm 11Ω 130x6mm 42Ω 50x20mm 13Ω 30x30mm 11Ω Resistance graph In general, the resistance of a conductive material changes based on its length, width and thickness. Resistance is defined as being inversely proportional to cross sectional area. So with Think Ink Conductive paint if we keep the paint layer the same thickness we can look at the resistance as being in proportion to the ratio of the length and width. The diagram below plots this ratio of a sample of Think Ink Conductive Paint against the approximate resistance. This diagram assumes that Think Ink Conductive Paint has been applied with a brush so that thickness is a constant. You can calculate an estimated resistance for any proportion over 1, based on the equation: Resistance=19.77(Ratio) +12. There are two examples illustrated below. Example one is illustrated by black dotted lines on the diagram. This point is associated with a shape with a ratio of 10. (Dimensions of 100mm by 10mm that is 100/10=10). The resistance associated with this ratio is 24 Ohms. The nature of the ratio number means that this shape could have the dimensions of 1000mm by 100mm and the resistance would still be 24 Ohms. Example two, the red dotted lines, shows a shape of ratio 125. In this example the shape has the dimensions of 1250mm by 10mm (1250/10=125). The resistance associated with this shape is 200 Ohms.

Think Ink Conductive Paint FAQ General What can Think Ink Paint be used for? Lots of things! Can be used to power small devices Can be used as an interface to other electronics Can be used as a cold solder Can be used as a potentiometer Can be used to electroplate non conductive surfaces Can be used as a capacitor Can be used as a transformer Can be used as an amplifier Can be used as an actuator Compatible with many standard printing processes The most interesting stuff happens when you combine these properties into something new. Keep an eye out on our website for projects that give specific examples of Think Ink Paint in use. Check out our Technical Data Sheet for more information. Can you change the colour? Think Ink Paint is silver grey in colour, but it can easily be over painted with a wide range of other water based paints, opening up a whole range of colour possibilities. Does this material 'light up' or glow? Not in itself, but it can power light sources (such as LEDs), which do glow. How much is shipping? Shipping is shown on our website and we try to keep it as low as possible How long will it take for my order to arrive? We aim to dispatch on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Monday we dispatch orders from Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Wednesday we dispatch orders from Monday and Tuesday. On Friday we dispatch orders from Wednesday and Thursday. Once dispatched the shipping/delivery times vary by country; UK: 1-2 working days EU: 3-5 working days US and Rest of the World: 7-10 working days We try to get your order to you as soon as possible but if there are any problems with your order please contact us at thinkinkfactorysales@gmail.com.

Think Ink Conductive Paint FAQ Think Ink Paint How Conductive is Think Ink Paint? Think Ink Paint has a surface resistivity of approximately 11 ohms/square at 50 microns layer thickness. For more information, take a look at our Technical data sheet. How do I apply Think Ink Paint? You can apply Think Ink Paint like any other water-based paint. You can use a brush, a roller, printmaking equipment, or anything else that you can think of. We have used stencils cut from adhesive-backed vinyl for detailed work and big brushes for paintings. How do I remove Think Ink Paint? Think Ink Paint is water soluble so soap and warm water will take Think Ink Paint off of most surfaces. What can Think Ink Paint be applied to? Think Ink Paint can be applied to a wide variety of materials, including (but certainly not limited to) paper, cardboard, vellum, wood, metal, plaster, some rubbers, plastics, glass and many textiles. Some materials like polypropylene exhibit hydrophobic behaviour and will need surface preparation (such as light sanding) before applying Think Ink Paint. Experiment and send us some photos of your results! How long does Think Ink Paint take to dry? Drying time depends primarily on two factors, how much Paint you've applied and the ambient temperature. In general, the thinner the layer of Paint applied, and the warmer the ambient temperature, the shorter the drying time will be. A small drawing on a piece of paper should dry within 10 minutes in optimal conditions. It's important to note that as Think Ink Paint dries the conductivity increases (and will continue to increase to a certain extent even after the Paint "feels" dry), so if your project requires calibration, let the Paint dry completely before testing it. Can you make Think Ink Paint dry faster? Yes and no. A little bit of extra heat can certainly help the material dry faster. A lot of extra heat can over dry the material causing it to crack and compromising its performance. Can I use another paint as an insulator? Definitely! Standard acrylic or water-based paints can be used alongside Think Ink Paint to act as insulation or to create multi-layer circuitry. Painting over Think Ink Paint is also an easy way to hide a circuit or change the colour. Can Think Ink Paint be applied to clothing/textiles? Definitely! Think Ink Paint adheres well to a wide range of synthetic and natural fabrics. It s important to note that as Think Ink Paint is water soluble, washing the textile would remove any Paint which has been applied. How long does Think Ink Paint last after it has dried? A long time. The material can last years if treated properly and kept dry.

Think Ink Conductive Paint FAQ Can I use it for screen printing? Yes. Think Ink Paint is well suited for screen-printing. The material prints well on paper, fabric and many other substrates. Though Think Ink Paint works well for screen-printing, we're hoping to launch a screen-printing specific product as well as an offset litho ink soon. Is Think Ink Paint waterproof? The current formulation of Think Ink Paint is not waterproof, but depending on what your application is you can paint over it with a waterproof paint or varnish. Can I use Think Ink Paint on my skin? No. Though Think Ink Paint is a material that is safe to have around the body, it is not specifically approved for use on the skin. Do you have an MSDS for Think Ink Paint? Of Course! Please email us at thinkinkfactorysales@gmail.com for a copy. Do you have a Technical Data Sheet for Think Ink Paint? Yes! Please email us at thinkinkfactorysales@gmail.com for a copy.
