These instructions are designed for typical California hard coat stucco exterior applications. The installation must leave the existing aluminum window frame and weep system in place. These instructions are not to be used with any other construction method and rely on the integrity of the existing aluminum window frame and flashing system. Building designs, construction methods, building materials, and site conditions unique to your project may require an installation method different from these instructions and additional care. YOU WILL NEED TO SUPPLY: Window and Door Insulating Foam Sealant by the Dow Chemical Company or equivalent low pressure polyurethane window latex foams. Installation will require two or more persons for safety reasons. TOOLS REQUIRED: 1OPENING PREPARATION A. Prior to removing the existing window sash and/or glass, check the dimensions of the existing window and the new window to make sure the new window than the new window in both width and height. 1A B. Prepare the window opening by removing the sash frame. Note: It may be necessary to cut the divider between vent and fixed glass areas with a hacksaw. The existing aluminum frame is left in place so as not to disturb the existing exterior stucco flashing or drainage system. C. Remove any debris, old sealant, paint or stucco from the exterior face of the existing window frame. Clean any dirt or debris from the existing sill and ensure the weep holes are open and clear. 1B D. Seal the existing jamb frame joints to the sill of the existing aluminum window frame with beads of sealant. 1D 1F Sealant E. Seal any screw holes from the original divider existing frame.
F. Install wood blocking around the entire opening. The blocking must be the same height as the existing aluminum window frame. The blocking must extend to the interior far enough to provide full support for the sill of the new window, however may extend as far to the interior as desired. Apply sill flashing tape. Cut a piece of flashing tape Apply the tape bottom over the wood blocking so Window Frame Depth minus 1/4 Flashing Tape Wood Blocking 1G Cut treated wood filler to fill the sill cavities in the existing aluminum frame. The depth of the filler should be the same height as the tallest leg of the aluminum frame. Cut the sill filler to fill the entire length of the sill in both cavities. Cut notches in the sill filler to correspond with the weep holes of the existing aluminum window frame. I. Install the wood filler into the existing aluminum frame. Insert the sill filler with the notches over the holes in the existing window. Window Frame Depth minus 1/4 Flashing Tape Wood Filler Wood Blocking 1I 1G 1I J. Install sill shims and level sill. from each side and beneath integral mullions. Place center. Some window types require anchors at the sill. If the unit has installation holes in the sill, place shims at each anchor location. Adjust shims as necessary to ensure the sill is level. Note: The depth of the shim should be equal to the window frame depth minus 1/2". Cut the shim to this dimension. Place the exterior edge of the shim flush with the exterior of the existing window. Improper placement of shims may result in bowing the bottom of the window. 1D 1J 2PREPARE THE WINDOW FOR INSTALLATION A. Remove packing material from the window. The vent sash and screen may be removed to make the window lighter and easier to handle. Note: check product for any crack or penetration in the frame. DO NOT install damaged units.
B. Insert the window into the opening from the exterior. Insert shims around the window temporarily while you verify that the window will fit into the opening and the window flanges will overlap the stucco or existing aluminum Note: Fix any problems with the opening before proceeding. If required, the exterior flush flange may be trimmed. To trim the exterior flush flange, lay the window exterior side down on a firm clean surface. Using a utility knife or circular saw, cut the flush flange along one of the score lines on the back of the flush flange. If using a CLIP INSTALLION, refer to the installation instructions included with the install clip accessory package. SLIDING WINDOW ONLY 2D C. Remove the venting sash window and slide the venting sash open sash until the bottom of the sash will clear the bottom track. And remove the sash towards the interior. EXTERIOR SILL INTERIOR D. Remove the vent track from the vent pocket sill. screwdriver, pry the vent track out of the sill pocket, being careful not to damage it. Keep this part, to be reinstalled later. E. Drill 5/32" installation screw holes through the frame jambs, head, & sill per the spacing shown in the graphic. The holes should be located in the center of the vent pocket. 6" 6" 16" MAX. 6" 4" 4" 6" 2E 16" MAX. Fixed Meeting Rail EXTERIOR F. Head/Jamb Only: Counter Drill with a drill of the bit. Drill through the first penetrate the outer wall with the 2F 5/32" drill 1-1/4" INTERIOR 3/8" drill with drill guide placed 1/4" from end of bit.

3 SETTING AND FASTENING THE WINDOW A. Place a line of sealant on the perimeter face of the existing aluminum window frame. E. Plumb and square the window. Insert shims between the window and the sides of the rough opening at the anchor hole locations in the ZLQGRZ VLGHV '2 127 RYHU VKLP 0RYH WKH ZLQGRZ LQ the opening until the flanges are tight against the existing aluminum window frame. F. Finish anchoring the window to the opening by driving the screws noted in 3D through the remaining installation holes, shims, and into the wall members. Place a dab of sealant in all installation screw holes in the sill prior to installing the sill screws. Sealant is frame and may interfere with the performance of the window. Insert Screw Covers insert the covers into tight spaces in the frame. Note: If window components were removed to access sill anchors; replace them now. The sill riser and sash track snap in by pressing them down. 3F 4K Screw Cover Installation Screw Hole Check the window operation Note: If there are any problems with the operation of the window, recheck shim locations and adjust for plumb and square. CASEMENTS: If additional adjustment is needed, use the adjustment tool and accompanying instructions. Place a corner bead of sealant on the edge of the window flush flange on top, sides and sealant bead at the bottom, corresponding to the weep hole locations in the existing aluminum window frame. 3H 5A Exterior View 2"
4 INTERIOR SEAL Caution: Ensure use of low pressure polyurethane window and door insulating foams and strictly follow the foam manufacturer s recommendations for application. Use of high pressure foams or improper application of the foam may cause the window frame to bow and hinder operation. A. Apply insulating foam sealant. From the interior, insert the space between the window and the rough opening for expansion of the foam and will minimize squeeze out. Apply sealant across interior surface of shims to instructions. Note: It may be necessary to squeeze the end of the tube with pliers to be able to insert into the space between the window frame and the rough opening. DO NOT completely fill the space from the back of the flange to the interior face of the window. B. Check window operation by opening and closing the window. Note: If the window does not operate correctly, check to make sure it is still plumb, level, square and that the sides are not bowed. If adjustments are required, remove the foam with a serrated knife. Adjust the shims, and reapply the insulating foam sealant. 5 INTERIOR TRIM A. Apply interior trim as required. CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS Be sure to remove all liquid by wiping dry or use a clean squeegee. The vinyl frame may be or Soft Scrub seal. Keep door tracks clear of dirt and debris. Keep weep holes open and clear of obstructions. IMPORTANT NOTICE Because all construction must anticipate some water infiltration, it is important that the wall system be designed and constructed to properly manage moisture.
