NOTES TO THE CONDUCTOR This arrangement as ritten somehat in the style o a Count Basie Orchestra arrangement The horns can lay ack a it, hile the rhythm section keeps things steady Likeise, the SATB voices (or solo voice) can lay ack a it Use traditional legato sing style throughout I have tried to make appropriate articulation in terms o long or short notes, accents, etc, as ell as appropriate dynamics Special attention should e paid to the rootop accent () These accents should not e played too short think daht One note aout dynamics: The and should e aare o hen they are accompanying the voices, versus hen they are the eatured sound All dynamics during vocal sections should e a it soter than during the ig and ensemle sections, suh as the shout chorus at measure 69 The overall dynamic shape o the arrangement is a gradual uild, starting quite sot at the eginning and uilding to the shout chorus at 69 Ater the shout chorus and instrumental solo section, the dynamics should drop ack don a little, ith a gradual uild to the modulation at measure 117, hich is the peak o the song eep all dynamics controlled and alanced so that the ensemle alance is solid and the voice(s) are not uried y the and O course, this last issue ill vary a it depending on the nature o your venue and sound system I have included numerous melodic lines in the top sta o the piano part It is not necessary that the pianist play all o them He or she can pick and choose hat eels good These are on the part primarily to allo the pianist to see hat the ensemle is playing, and to e ale to comp accordingly I have also included a e o the melodic lines in the guitar part The guitarist should play these, as they add a nice color to the ensemle lines The guitar comping style should e in the traditional reddie Green Basie style, ith light voicings played on all our eats and slight accents on 2 and 4 I did not include a ully notated ass part The assist should alk through the changes in the appropriate 4 eat sing style Hoever, there are numerous places here there are ritten ass lines It is important to play these ritten parts, as they may e douled y another instrument, such as ari sax or ass tromone, or the selected notes it est ith the voicings in the ensemle Since this arrangement as ritten ith experienced musicians in mind, I did not include any ritten solo or the trumpet improvised solo sections eep in mind that this arrangement comes rom a Basie and/or cool, relaxed perspective, so the solo does not need to e in a heavy eop style, ut more relaxed, melodic and singing! Enjoy!
