Vice President Stewart Smith chaired this meeting. First order of business was election of new club president.as President Glen Dean is relocating to the Lower 48. Club member Allen Nichols was subsequently elected and will serve in that position until our next club officer elections in March 2015. Congratulations were given to Allen by club members present at the meeting. Following election, monthly door prizes were awarded: Series 1953 $2 Red Seal Note in XF condition won by Dean Sawyer, Series 1934D $5 Silver Certificate won by Dave Everidge. On the matter of old business, it was announced that for the time being, our club tables and cases will be stored by Carl at the University Center. However, this is only a temporary solution and we will need to see if club member(s) can store these items at their homes. If not, we may have to go to the expense of renting a storage facility location for these items. These items are used by our coin club for our coin shows held every year. Also discussed was the club s next coin show. Briefing by Carl. Carl is looking for a confirmed date to conduct the coin show to coincide with the release of the Permanent Dividend checks on October 2 nd. Carl is presently working with the University Center to secure a weekend near that date. Date to be announced in this month s newsletter. Members wanting tables for this coin show can get with Carl (907)561-2275 to secure table(s). Raffle prize: 1887-P Morgan Dollar PCGS MS63+ won by Stan Mead. Following the raffle prize drawing, the monthly coin auction was held. Following the auction, we then conducted our quarterly Buy-Sell-Trade session for the duration of the meeting.larry Nakata/Secretary. 1

Monthly Raffle Prize will be a 1913 P Type 1 Buffalo nickel PCGS MS-65. Raffle tickets will be $5 each, 5 tickets/$20, or 11 tickets/$40. We are now having Dan Barnhart (that s me!) help out with the newsletter. Board meeting was subsequently concluded following dinner at the Yamato Ya Restaurant.Carl/ Board Member. My friend Roy: It has been a while since Roy Brown left us. Every time I drive down Spenard Road I always think of Roy and his coin shop. I remember that he was always happy to see me walk in his front door and he was always helpful and patient in answering my questions I had about coins and numismatics in general. He also let me keep a cardboard box in his safe with my name on it for the high dollar coins that I would purchase from him in layaway. I remember picking up a nice $5 gold piece from him. He would say May it bring you a million dollars of joy. Dan Barnhart 2

Troy Ounce vs Ounce Coins Submitted by Bill Fivaz for Oct 7 th Membership Meeting/Coin Auction 1. 1954-S Lincoln Cent 3 errors MS-65 Red No Minimum Bid "1 Troy ounce contains 2.75 grams more"... So what is the difference between a Troy Ounce, and a standard ounce. This is a very common question, and one that most people have trouble answering without some reference. Surprisingly there are 2 totally different methods for calculating silver/gold vs the method used to calculate everything else. The most likely explanation is that Gold, Silver, and even Gun Powder are such universal and important materials, that a standard measurement system is not an option but a requirement. That unfortunately means that the people from the United States are at a small disadvantage, when it comes to properly measuring these things with the standard machines we might use in day to day life. Exact measurements are as follows 1 troy ounce = 31.1034768 grams or 480 grains 1 ounce = 28.3495231 grams or 437.5 grains Basic elementary school math will tell you that 1 Troy ounce contains 2.75 grams more of metal than the standard ounce. So an ounce of Gold would weight 2.7539537 grams more than an ounce of sugar. 2. 1935-S Buffalo 5c Strong Rev.
