Dry, sand and remove grit with a tack cloth or damp towel. Basecoat a second time. When painting the design side, blend in Titanium White in the sky area using the ½ angular bristle. Paint at least half way down for the sky. Sky, ground and foliage are easiest painted free form. Transfer detailed line work on an as needed basis. For example, paint the buildings after the background behind it has been painted. Painting Instructions: The smaller designs can be painted on smaller Artist s Club wood surfaces. 1. Begin at the horizon with a wash of Irish Moss using a #12 Shader to paint the first hill. Paint 1

the church Titanium White shading with Whispering Turquoise using a #2 Shader. Double load the #10/0 Liner with Titanium White and Whispering Turquoise to outline the church. Double load the liner with French Grey Blue and Titanium White to paint the roof. Use a wash of French Grey Blue and the liner to paint windows and door. Paint tree trunks with a double load of Charcoal Grey using the liner. Stipple the green trees Avocado and the blossom tree Petal Pink highlighted with Titanium White; use the corner of the ¼ Angular Bristle or dot with the liner. 2. Basecoat barns and silo Burnt Orange with a #2 Shader, shade Russet and highlight Orange Twist. Paint roof tops French Grey; highlight Titanium White. Double load roof colors onto the liner to paint the narrow roof line, window and loft openings. When dry, wash in small spots of Burnt Sienna. Stipple shrubs Avocado with a ¼ Deerfoot; highlight with a mix of Irish Moss and Whispering Turquoise. 3. Load a #12 Shader with Irish Moss, touch brush corner in Avocado and paint the following hill. Basecoat the house Spicy Mustard with a #4 Shader, shade Burnt Sienna. Paint the roof Charcoal Grey, highlight Whispering Turquoise, line roof with a #10/0 liner using roof colors. Paint chimney Burnt Orange with a #2 Shader; shade Russet, highlight Orange Twist. Use a wash of Charcoal Grey and a #2 Shader to paint windows. Paint window panes Whispering Turquoise with a #10/0 liner. Double load the liner with Whispering Turquoise and Charcoal Grey, paint porch detail. Repeat the technique in step 2 for painting shrubs by the house. Use the liner and lilac to dot the shrub at the side of the house. Double load the liner tip with Petal Pink and Antique Rose, dot and blend flowers along the porch. Use the ¼ angular bristle brush tip and Avocado to lightly shape the evergreens. Load the #12 Shader with Irish Moss and touch corner in Avocado, paint ground in front of house. Wash in the road with Charcoal Grey using the corner of the Shader. 4. Basecoat the mill Charcoal Grey with a #10 Shader; highlight Burnt Sienna and brighten with Spicy Mustard. Paint the roof French Grey Blue, highlight Titanium White. Use the #10/0 liner for narrow roof line. Paint the water wheel Charcoal Grey with a#3 round. Double load the liner with 2

3 Spicy Mustard and burnt Sienna to paint the wheel detail and trim. Stipple shrubs and refer to step 3 for painting lilac blossoms. 5. Continue filling in the ground area Irish Moss Green, shading Avocado with solid stippling using the ½ angular bristle. This will keep colors blended. Touch side edge of the angular bristle with a mix of Whispering Turquoise and Irish Moss to add highlights to the tops of the banks. This will complete all the grass in the foreground and is a free form technique so there will be color variations and any of the colors can be added to what pleases your eye. Wash in the stream with Whispering Turquoise using a #4 Shader; paint with a wash of Antique Teal to shade. Touch up grass along the edge of the stream if needed. 6. Wash in the larger section of road with Charcoal Grey using a #10 Shader, add Burnt Sienna in spots. Double load the edge of the Shader with Charcoal Grey and Whispering Turquoise and paint choppy strokes to make the road look rough. Use the brush on chisel edge to paint wheel ruts. 7. Deepen Charcoal Grey with a little Payne s Grey and double load the #3 Round with the mix and Whispering Turquoise to paint fence posts. Double load the #10/0 Liner with Payne s Grey and Titanium White to paint wire. 8. Paint the tree trunks with Charcoal Grey with a #10 Shader; highlight Whispering Turquoise. Use the #3 round to paint the branches. Dry and stipple sparingly with Avocado using the ½ angular bristle, pick up Irish Moss Green and stipple keeping foliage on the inner part. Finish using the ¼ angular bristle for an airy texture. Use Avocado for the deepest color, highlight with Irish Moss and Whispering Turquoise mixed with Irish Moss can be used to add small areas of the lightest green. Touch up the grass at the base of each tree. 9. Load the #4 Shader with Titanium White, touch a corner in Whispering Turquoise to paint the cows. Spots are painted Payne s Grey with a round brush or #2 Shader. Paint the udder with a mix of Antique Rose and Titanium White mixed to a flesh color. Using a #4 Shader corner and a light wash of Payne s Grey, shade along the tops of the cows and the tails.

Finishing: 1. Double load a #10/0 Liner with Charcoal Grey and Whispering Turquoise to paint blossom tree trunks. Stipple foliage with Petal Pink using the tip of ¼ Angular Bristle; highlight Titanium White. These little blossom trees can be painted anywhere in the landscape. Increase the size if they painted in the foreground. 2. When the painting has dried, use the ¾ Glaze Wash brush and apply a coat of DecoArt Dura- Clear Matte Varnish, dry and apply a second coat. Pattern at 100% 1 x 1 To ensure your pattern is at 100%, this box should measure 1 x 1 when printed. 4
