2017 Madison Investment Conference Speakers Biographies Michael Maubossin, Ph.D Prior to rejoining Credit Suisse in 2013, he was Chief Investment Strategist at Legg Mason Capital Management. Michael originally joined CS in 1992 as a packaged food industry analyst and was named Chief U.S. Investment Strategist in 1999. He is a former president of the Consumer Analyst Group of New York and was repeatedly named to Institutional Investor's All-America Research Team and The Wall Street Journal All-Star survey in the food industry group. Michael is the author of The Success Equation: Untangling Skill and Luck in Business, Sports, and Investing (Harvard Business Review Press, 2012), Think Twice: Harnessing the Power of Counterintuition (Harvard Business Press, 2009) and More Than You Know: Finding Financial Wisdom in Unconventional Places-Updated and Expanded (New York: Columbia Business School Publishing, 2008). More Than You Know was named one of "The 100 Best Business Books of All Time" by 800-CEO- READ, one of the best business books by BusinessWeek (2006) and best economics book by Strategy+Business (2006). He is also co-author, with Alfred Rappaport, of Expectations Investing: Reading Stock Prices for Better Returns (Harvard Business School Press, 2001). Michael has been an adjunct professor of finance at Columbia Business School since 1993 and is on the faculty of the Heilbrunn Center for Graham and Dodd Investing. He received the Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence in 2009 and 2016. BusinessWeek's Guide to the Best Business Schools (2001) highlighted Michael as one of the school's "Outstanding Faculty," a distinction received by only seven professors. Michael earned an A.B. from Georgetown University. He is also chairman of the board of trustees of the Santa Fe Institute, a leading center for multi-disciplinary research in complex systems theory. Adam Berger, CFA As an asset allocation strategist, Adam develops research on capital market and asset allocation themes, advises clients and prospects on investment strategy and policy issues, and implements investment solutions for clients. Prior to joining the firm in 2012, Adam was the head of Portfolio Solutions at AQR Capital Management, where he delivered thought-leading research and ideas to existing and prospective investors, including white papers, customized research, and proprietary analytical tools (2007 2012). At Goldman Sachs Asset Management, Adam served as a research strategist in Global Investment Strategies and as chief of staff to the heads of GSAM. During his 11 years at Goldman Sachs, Adam also worked in the firm s Pension Services Group and Equities Division. Adam earned his MBA, with honors, with a concentration in finance from the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton, 2002). He earned his AB in Philosophy, magna cum laude, from Harvard College (1995). Additionally, he holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute. Thomas Christensen, CAIA, CQF Thomas Christensen joined AB in 2014 as a Senior Quantitative Analyst for AB Global Core Equity. He previously served as senior risk and quant manager at CPH Capital. Prior to that, Christensen held a similar role at BankInvest. He holds both a BSc and an MSc in business administration and management science from the Copenhagen Business School, and is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) with a Certificate in Quantitative Finance (CQF). Location: Copenhagen Thomas Stevens, CFA Thomas Stevens is the Chairman and CEO of Los Angeles Capital. Mr. Stevens is one of the Firm s cofounders and plays a key role in setting the Firm s strategic goals and overseeing all departments at Los Angeles Capital with particular focus on Portfolio Management, Finance and Client Servicing. He is a voting member of the Firm s Investment Committee and also serves on the Firm s Risk Committee. Prior to the founding of Los Angeles Capital in 2002, Mr. Stevens was a Senior Managing Director and Principal at Wilshire Associates. Early in his 22 year career at Wilshire, he oversaw the Equity Services Division providing quantitative tools and services to over 120 investment
management firms. For 16 years he ran Wilshire Asset Management, a division of the firm, delivering custom asset management solutions to large institutional investment organizations. Before joining Wilshire, Mr. Stevens worked for the National Bank of Detroit as a research analyst and later as a portfolio manager responsible for select major pension fund client relationships. Mr. Stevens serves on the Board of Directors for the Los Angeles Capital Global Funds plc, a UCITS fund registered in Ireland, and is also on the Board for Special Olympics Southern California. He also serves on the Board for Proxy Parent Foundation providing financial services and personal support assistance to people with mental illness. Mr. Stevens received his BBA and MBA from the University of Wisconsin Madison. Gary Schlossberg As senior economist, Gary Schlossberg is responsible for assessing the economic environment and providing input to the equity and fixed income portfolio management teams at Wells Capital Management. In this capacity, he makes presentations to clients, prospects, and investment staff analyzing prospects for the financial markets. He entered the financial industry in 1972 as a researcher at the U.S. Treasury and Federal Reserve Board covering international economic conditions and joined Wells Fargo in 1974. Gary earned a bachelor s degree from the City University of New York and a master s degree from The Pennsylvania State University. Anne Valentine Andrews Anne Valentine Andrews, Managing Director, is global Chief Operating Officer for the BlackRock Real Assets group within BlackRock Alternative Investors. BlackRock Real Assets comprises the Infrastructure and Real Estate platforms, which has 320+ professionals across 22 cities globally, and manages over $31.5 billion in equity and debt assets and investor commitments. She is responsible for global business management, strategic planning, product strategy, and team development. Prior to joining BlackRock in 2014, she was Co-Head and Chief Operating Officer for the Morgan Stanley Infrastructure platform with $4 billion of assets under management. In addition to leading capital raising efforts globally, Ms. Valentine Andrews managed the operations of the platform. She also assisted investors in deploying capital for co-investment mandates alongside fund investments. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley in 2006, Ms. Valentine Andrews was a director at Macquarie Bank in both Melbourne and New York. She began her career as a corporate attorney in Australia. Ms. Valentine Andrews earned a Bachelor of Economics degree and Bachelor of Law with Honors from Monash University, Australia in 1991 and 1994, respectively. She also received a Masters of Applied Finance degree from Macquarie University, Australia in 2004. In 2016, she was recognized as a Fellow of Monash University, Australia. Hank D'Alessandro Hank D'Alessandro is a Managing Director of Morgan Stanley, Head of Morgan Stanley Credit Partners and Chief Investment Officer of the Fund. He brings more than 20 years of mezzanine investing and leveraged finance experience. Mr. D'Alessandro is Head of Morgan Stanley Credit Partners Investment and Valuation Committees and is a member of Morgan Stanley s Merchant Banking and Real Estate Executive Committees. He is based in New York. Mr. D Alessandro joined Morgan Stanley in 1997 and most recently was Vice Chairman of North American Leveraged and Acquisition Finance and Head of U.S. Financial Sponsor Leveraged Finance. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, he was a Vice President at Chase Securities, Inc. and an Audit Manager at KPMG Peat Marwick. Mr. D Alessandro holds a B.S., magna cum laude, from Seton Hall University and an MBA from Cornell University. He serves as a member of the Seton Hall University Board of Regents. Scott Anderson, CFA, CIMA Scott is the Managing Director of Asset and Risk Allocation for the State of Wisconsin Investment Board. In addition to being a Chartered Financial Analyst, Scott also has his Financial Risk Management (FRM) designation, Certificate in Investment Performance Management (CIPM) and Certificate of Quantitative Finance (CQF). Scott s education also includes an MBA as well as a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
