1 Overview This technical description of the 8/32-channel measuring transducer TIEU 104/134 describes its design, installation, hardware settings and technical data. The chapter Order Information with a list of recommended spare parts supplements this documentation. The values in () apply to the 32-channel measuring transducer TIEU 134. 2 Application The measuring transducer TIEU 104/134 converts the current signals of a maximum of eight (32) ionisation chambers (radiation detectors) into voltage signals, digitalises these voltage signals with an A/D converter and transfers them via an Ethernet network (UDP protocol). 3 Functional Description The detector current is converted into a voltage signal and adjusted on the amplifier card TIKV 101. The amplifier is equipped with a capacitor to allow an analog time constant. Each amplifier card TIKV 101 has four analog channels. A total of two (eight) amplifier cards can be plugged into a busconfigured analog unit. A separate computer unit has slots for the power unit TICN 104, the CPU TICC 104 and one (four) A/D converter module(s) TICA 104. Every module can convert eight analog signals with a multiplexer. Each A/D module can receive signals from two amplifier cards. Using jumpers it is possible to bypass the measuring amplifier and use the last eight analog channels TIEU 104 Channel 1... 8 TIEU 134 Channel 25... 32 for direct connection of external signal sources. The external signal sources must be volt-free. The CPU controls A/D conversion, processing of the digitalised measured values and Ethernet communication. The Ethernet communication is based on a subset of the TCP/IP protocol, the UDP protocol. Parameters such as amplification, conversion cycle, output cycle and sliding averaging can be adjusted from outside via Ethernet communication. High voltage The high voltage needed to operate ionisation chambers is not generated in the measuring transducer. The high voltage can be fed to the measuring transducer for further distribution from an external voltage source. High Voltage Switch off the power supply to the high voltage generating unit before starting work inside the measuring transducer case. The high voltage there self-discharges in approximately three minutes (depending on the voltage generator). There is a high voltage connection available for every ionisation chamber. 6 Mechanical Installation Mounting position Fundamentally any mounting position is possible. However, a mounting position in which the connectors point upwards should be avoided. Operating temperature >60 C When fastening to assembly parts that can reach an operating temperature of more than 60 C, heat transmission to the measuring transducer should be avoided. This can be achieved with, for example, a heat-insulating or cooled mounting plate. 7 Electrical Installation No electrical insulation between measuring transducer and mounting wall is necessary. The case has its own ground connection for connection of the system ground (local). 7.1 Power IN (-X8) Power Supply 24V- Connector (3-pin) Connection Voltage -X8:1 24V -X8:2 0V -X8:3 7.2 HV IN (-X7) High Voltage Socket, coaxial Connection Voltage -X7:1 HV IN -X7:2 GND Shield 7.3 Ethernet (-X9) Network Connection Socket, RJ45 Standard patch cable The following signals are used: Connection Signal -X9:1 TD+ -X9:2 TD- -X9:3 RD+ -X9:6 RD- HW_01_MU_0103_en Vers.: 01.12.2009 11/22

7.6 Connection of the Ionisation Chamber Connect the coaxial cable carefully Particular care must be taken when connecting the signal cable. Avoid dirt and contamination Due to the high insulating resistance required, dirt and contamination must be avoided. Shield Connect the shield of the signal cable with the fastening clamp provided (GND potential). For a better shielding effect, the shield should pass through as far as possible in the direction of the amplifier input. It is therefore advisable to only remove the PVC insulation covering the shield in the area of the clamp. The shield of the high voltage cable is not connected. A shrink sleeve should be fitted at the end of the shield for insulation purposes. 8 Hardware Settings Computer Unit 8.1 Allocation of the IP Address with the DIP Switch Set the hardware settings for the computer unit with the DIP switch (J1) on the CPU TICC 101. The default settings are highlighted in the text in bold print. 8.1.1 Ethernet IP Address The measuring transducer is addressed in the network on the basis of its IP address. Every IP address may only be allocated once in the network. The IP address is given in the form 192.168.0.H. It is a Class C address. The first three bytes (192.168.0) are the network address and the fourth byte (H) the host address. The user can only set the host address with the DIP switches J1:1-5. The DIP switches J1:1-5 are binary encoded from J1:1 = 2 0 to J1:5 = 2 5. This results in 32 different settings. The host address is given as follows: Host address = 32 + DIP J1:1 5 The host address covers the range from 32 63: Network Address Host Address J1:1-5 Byte 0 Byte 1 Byte 2 Byte 3 IP Address 192 168 0 32... 63 The host address defines the count sequence of the measuring transducer in a measuring system. 14/22 Vers.: 01.12.2009 HW_01_MU_0103_en

The following illustration shows the arrangement in the TIEU 134. The arrangement in the TIEU 104 is similar. 9.1 Shunting the Analog Channels The eight analog inputs of the last AD converter can be shunted freely with jumpers. In the standard setting they are connected to the analog outputs of the amplifier TIKV 101. Alternatively external analog signals can be connected. The external signals must be volt-free. 12 Compatibility to TIEU 101/131 The measuring transducers TIEU 101/131 are predecessors of TIEU 104/134 and no longer available. Improvements over the predecessor models: - Heat development was reduced and distribution improved. - Noise and crosstalk were reduced. 12.1 Replaceability and Mixed Operation Replaceability and mixed operation are possible. The following points must then be taken into account: Connectors The connectors for Ethernet (-X9) and Ext. Analog IN (-X5/-X6) were changed. State connection compatibility in order Establish connection compatibility on site State the connection compatibility in your order (see Order Information, variant code d ). You can also establish connection compatibility on site yourself using the corresponding components from TIEU 101/131. Procedure: Exchange the plate with the Ethernet connection. Exchange the (double) connector for Ext. Analog IN. The Sub-D connector (-X5) for Trigger IN/OUT and the corresponding ribbon cable are no longer needed. The Sub-D connector (-X6) for Ext. Analog IN is compatible and can be used further. Case The case is identical and enables 1:1 assembly. No software adjustment necessary. The firmware of the measuring transducer is compatible and therefore no software adjustment is necessary. The 8-channel measuring transducer TIEU 104 can no longer be operated on an Interbus. Replacement necessitates conversion of the measuring system to Ethernet. HW_01_MU_0103_en Vers.: 01.12.2009 21/22

13 Order Information In the basic version of the measuring transducer the analog unit does not have an amplifier. The computer unit is only equipped with the power unit and CPU.
