MACRO MACRO TruGrip Lens Clip IMPORTANT Your TruGrip Lens Clip arrives with protective plastic film on the interior faces of the clip that make contact with your phone (Shown in RED above). Peel off the plastic film to reveal the rubber grips underneath. The rubber grips hold the clip and lens assembly securely in place and prevent unwanted slipping and harm to your new lens kit. Center the lens clip over frontfacing or rear-facing camera on your phone or tablet. Wide Angle Lens Distortion One very important thing to understand when shooting with a wide angle lens is that you ll quite often experience varying degrees of distortion. This may surprise you at first. dramatic flair + Great Composition = Beautiful Photos Wide angle lenses give you the ability to take in an extraordinarily wide field of view compared to your phone s builtin lens. As a result, they tend to distort the apparent physical relationships between objects. This is most noticeable in curvature of straight lines such as those found in architectural structures. However, understanding wide angle lens distortion can help you embrace what may at first seem like an unwanted side effect. In fact, countless photographers use wide angle distortion to their advantage. As long as you re aware of the distortion, you can use it to stylize your photos to great effect. The photos to the right are excellent examples of dramatic flair and what s possible with a wide angle lens. 9

How to Fix Unwanted Lens Distortion Post-production is a term used in photography and videography which refers to tasks that are completed or executed after the filming or shooting ends. These tasks include editing raw footage and adding effects and filters. With the plethora of iphone and Android photography apps available today, there are a multitude of ways to modify and enhance your photos after they ve been shot. One of our favorites apps available for iphones and Android devices is the SKRWT app. SKRWT stands for Screw it. A clever name if not a peculiar one, don t you think? While SKRWT is a paid app currently priced at $1.99 (for Apple) and $0.99 (for Android) we feel it s a small price to pay to take your smartphone photography to the next level. The SKRWT app was designed precisely to correct lens distortion. Barrel Distortion is the most common form of wide angle lens distortion. (See image below.) Barrel distortion is very common in wide angle lenses of all makes and models including the well-known GoPro action cams. With barrel distortion, you will notice some curvature of lines, particularly around the edges of the frame whereas lines closer to the center of the image remain more or less unaffected. Once again, this can be a desirable effect for certain situations. But this can show up as an undesirable result when it comes to cityscapes and photos of buildings and architecture. However, this unwanted distortion can be easily remedied with the SKRWT app. The SKRWT app has a wide variety of post-production tools to help you tweak your photos to your heart s content. SKRWT App Step-By-Step Instructions to Fix Unwanted Lens Distortion The following images will show you EXACTLY how to use the SKRWT app to correct unwanted wide angle lens barrel distortion. STEP ONE Download the SKRWT App from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store depending on your device. STEP TWO Open the App. On the Home screen, click the Gallery button to select an image from your phone s photo gallery. The photo used in this tutorial was submitted by a Xenvo customer. The Lens Correction Tool icon looks like this: Lens Distortion You can clearly see some barrel distortion in this photo. The outer edge of the building and the balcony rail are slightly curved. Click the Lens Correction Tool icon to fix distortion 13

SKRWT App Step-By-Step Instructions to Fix Unwanted Lens Distortion STEP FIVE Upon opening the Lens Correction Tool, you will see 4 types of lenses to choose from. You can pick the type of lens you used to shoot the photo or try the other options if you feel like experimenting. The 4 lens types include: IPHONE WIDE FISHEYE GOPRO For the purposes of this tutorial, we will select the WIDE option since we are aiming to correct distortion from a wide angle lens. Though sometimes you may find that the IPHONE and the GOPRO option work wonders too. Select the WIDE option 14

SKRWT App Step-By-Step Instructions to Fix Unwanted Lens Distortion STEP SIX You will notice a scroll bar at the bottom of your screen. Use your finger to gently scroll left and right to see lens correction being applied to your photo in real time. You will see your photo being stretched in different directions. You can make small or large adjustments as you see fit. The end result can range from minor alterations to the dramatic. For the purposes of this tutorial, our goal is to simply straighten out the unwanted barrel distortion or curved lines. Adjust the scroll bar left & right to see lens correction applied in real time 15

SKRWT App Step-By-Step Instructions to Fix Unwanted Lens Distortion Lens Distortion Fixed You can see that the curved lines from earlier are no longer apparent. STEP SEVEN Once you are happy with the adjustments you have made, click the Checkmark icon in the lower right corner of your screen to apply the lens correction to your photo. Don t worry if you overdo it (or underdo it). SKRWT applies effects which are non-destructive. This means you are not damaging the original photograph. You can easily undo any adjustments and start over from scratch any time you choose by pressing the X button in the lower left corner of the screen. Press the X button at any time to back out and undo any adjustments you ve made Press the Checkmark icon when you are done to apply the lens correction adjustments you ve made 16

CONGRATS That s all there is to it. With a little practice, you should be able to run through the steps outlined in this tutorial in no time flat. Before AND DON T FORGET... Once you re finished correcting any distortion, use the SKRWT Cropping Tool to crop out any areas of the photograph you re not completely happy with. When it comes to photography, there are no hard-and-fast rules that say you have to play by the book. Photo editing is very subjective. So feel free to edit your photos until you re happy with the result.
