Roche in Mannheim The high-tech campus

Welc to Roche in

me Mannheim

Our Site We make a difference along the entire Roche value chain. Our goal at Roche in Mannheim is to use our skills and knowledge to create a better quality of life for people. Our site is the third largest Roche site worldwide, with more than 8,000 employees from around 60 nations. From research, through development and production, to sales and logistics, we are involved in the entire value chain from start to finish and we help ensure that diagnostic products and drugs from Roche reach patients across the globe. Located in the heart of the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, our high-tech site benefits from a close-knit network of nearby research institutes, universities and biotech companies. Our employees enjoy job variety, with a wide range of tasks and responsibilities in different areas. They experience diversity at first hand every day, value our open workplace culture and strive with courage and with passion to improve lives.

Research and Development Every day, we understand a little bit more about what really goes on in the body. For 120 years, we ve been researching and developing innovative solutions for the entire healthcare spectrum from the identification of health risks, to prevention and diagnosis, therapy and therapy monitoring. What really sets us apart is the close ties that exist between our Pharma and Diagnostics divisions. In Mannheim, we specialise in the development of products aimed at meeting the needs of people with diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Our portfolio includes coagulation systems, blood glucose monitoring systems and insulin pumps, which simplify the self-management of chronic diseases and help improve treatment results. We re also right at the forefront of digitisation from Industry 4.0 applications for production, to intelligent analysis of large data volumes and the continued improvement of personalised healthcare.

A Can-Do Attitude It s always fantastic to see just how much we can achieve here. And, in particular, how quickly. Tackling difficult tasks with enthusiasm, quickly making new ideas a reality, single-mindedly driving projects forward, working together to find pragmatic solutions these are some of the particular strengths of Roche in Mannheim. In a centre of industry where the first bicycle and car were once invented, where new and innovative start-ups are constantly being founded and where an amazing variety of pharma and biotech companies are located, we have developed a distinct can-do attitude. Little wonder, then, that we are considered an important and reliable partner by many other Roche sites. For example, here in Mannheim we develop and build highly specialised special-purpose machines for Roche production sites across the globe. But the site itself is always in a state of continuous development too as demonstrated by the impressive growth and investment that has taken place over recent years.

Production We deliver important products with excellent quality standards, made in Germany. At Roche, we work hard to develop and produce effective treatments for serious illnesses. From breast/colorectal/lung cancer and lymphoma, to multiple sclerosis and anaemia many of the Roche Group s important active ingredients are processed into ready-to-use products in Mannheim. But we make more than drugs here. Our best-known diagnostic products include instruments for monitoring blood coagulation and innovative blood glucose monitoring systems. We also produce advanced solutions for in vitro diagnostics, capable of measuring around 300 parameters in blood, urine, saliva and tissue samples. This demands the highest levels of quality and care. That s why we invest in state-of-the-art production facilities and guarantee seamless quality assurance from production, to storage and ultimately delivery to the customer.

An Open Workplace Culture What matters is the idea not who comes up with it. Innovation requires an environment in which to flourish. At Roche in Mannheim, we live and breathe an open workplace culture, in which each individual employee can play an active role by contributing knowledge and ideas. And so we always seek to identify the points that unite us rather than divide us in the differences between strategists and pragmatists, between young and old, or between those from our own and other cultures. This diversity, as well as interdisciplinary collaboration and mutual respect allow us to think outside the box and come up with completely new solutions. The creative free spaces dotted around our campus are a simple yet perfect example of the openness you will find here in Mannheim. These innovation rooms with unconventional furnishings and outdoor meeting points with WLAN provide inviting spaces in which colleagues can collaborate across departments, teams and hierarchy levels.

Sales and Marketing For us, people are at the heart of everything. And our customers sense that too. The products manufactured by Roche in Mannheim are often complex and not easy to explain. They are shipped to doctors and patients, but also to universities, industrial companies, research institutes, laboratories and hospitals. To ensure that we can provide these diverse customer groups with the best possible support and advice, our very capable Service Centre offers the highest level of customer care. Our Marketing, Service and Sales teams work together to offer tailor-made solutions. As a result, we have built up close, collaborative partnerships over decades with many customers. They value the ease of access they enjoy to their dedicated contacts and the high degree of flexibility with which we respond to their needs. With considerable expertise and great commitment, we will help you overcome the challenges presented by healthcare today.

Employees My career is more than just a job. And Roche is more than just an employer. At Roche in Mannheim, qualified employees are highly sought after and highly valued. And so we do everything we can to be an attractive employer. This begins with us offering a motivating work environment and an exceptional variety of exciting jobs. That s why Roche strives to create an environment in which each individual can develop his or her own unique strengths and capabilities. Helping employees achieve a work-life balance is very important to us. From flexible working hours, to sports activities and employee health programmes and even childcare as a family-friendly company, we offer our employees a wide range of benefits to help them improve their quality of life.

Responsibility When you dedicate yourself to improving lives, you follow this through in everything you do. Roche puts people at the heart of everything. And not just in healthcare. We also take on responsibility outside of our core business. Many of our employees dedicate some of their free time to volunteering or take part in events such as the Roche Children s Walk, a charity walk to raise money for children in need, or the Volunteer Day that takes place across the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. Roche encourages and promotes this commitment. Our support of cultural projects and institutions completes our portfolio of social engagement activities and makes us an important patron of the cultural life of the region. We re also setting a good example in many areas when it comes to environmental protection. From using energy-saving heating technology and innovative waste water treatment systems, to climate-friendly refrigeration and the conservation of precious drinking water, we re taking a wide range of steps to ensure a clean and healthy environment.

Logistics What we deliver doesn t just arrive on time it also comes with top quality guaranteed. Our healthcare solutions are used throughout the world. In the global logistics centre of Roche Diagnostics in Mannheim, we do everything in our power to ensure that customers in over 170 countries can rely on these solutions reaching them. In addition to offering huge capacity, our cutting-edge storage and order processing centre can meet the most demanding warehousing requirements. Raw materials, intermediate and end products can be stored here reliably at temperatures of minus 25 to plus 30 degrees Celsius. To ensure that goods reach our customers on-time and with top quality guaranteed, we connect various sites, IT systems, processes and departments in an intelligently networked supply chain. As a result, we have developed a global distribution network that is both reliable and flexible. Every year, one million orders with a total transport volume of 63,000 tonnes are shipped from Mannheim to destinations across the globe.
