OFFENBURG, GERMANY Offenburg University of Applied Sciences has campuses in Offenburg and the nearby town of Gengenbach. Both are situated in the beautiful Ortenau region, considered the gateway to the Black Forest, yet only short distances away from major cities including Karlsruhe, Freiburg, Baden-Baden, Strasbourg/France and Basel/Switzerland. Additionally, this southwestern part of Germany offers a comfortable climate, with warm and pleasant summers and winter temperatures rarely dropping below zero. Although Offenburg and Gengenbach are relatively small, they each offer great cultural and recreational possibilities. There are various festivals and festivities throughout the year, including the famous German carnival season, wine festivals in the fall, and one of Germany s most popular Christmas markets, with Gengenbach City Hall representing a huge Advent calendar. The University s main campus is in Offenburg, the city between the Rhine and the Vines. With approximately 60,000 inhabitants, Offenburg offers a full range of activities for visitors and residents alike. The city center, with historic buildings and romantic streets, reflects Offenburg s tradition as a free imperial town. ACCOMODATION & LIVING Living Costs Depending on your preferred lifestyle, average living expenses amount to approximately 750 per month. New incoming students will be fully assisted with finding accommodation in Offenburg. Depending on capacity, students will be placed in a student residence or in private housing. For students at the Gengenbach campus, there are no student residences available, so private housing will be arranged. Accommodation services for the student residences are provided by the Studierendenwerk Freiburg and differ in price ranging from 189 to 302, which usually includes all utilities. Offenburg offers several paths well suited for bikes as well as a great topographical condition for biking. For most students, the University is within biking distance, so traveling by bike is a quick and cost efficient mode of transportation. The bus system in Offenburg is called the Schlüsselbus and is an extensive network throughout Offenburg and in the outlying region. The University has a bus stop, which is reached by line S8 and S10. Students at the Gengenbach campus can purchase a monthly card to arrive to Gengenbach from Offenburg which is 40,50 per month for students. 7
