The Sacred Bead Previously Sold Rosaries For Reference Antique Rosaries 8
Beautiful Faceted Crystal and Blue Enamel Antique French Rosary This is a lovely antique French rosary with faceted crystal beads and deep blue enamel work on a gold plated crucifix and center. The center is different from most rosaries like this, as it has an image of Mary on the front and The Sacred Heart of Jesus on the reverse in enamel. Most centers have only one side with a plane back. A very beautiful rosary quite appropriate for everyday use. 15 1/2" when laid flat. In a private collection. Sold for $125.00 Dainty Antique Gilt Brass and Violet Glass Rosary Sweet little antique rosary from the 1920s-1940s. It is gilt brass with pretty little violet glass beads. Just over 15" long it would be a perfect rosary to carry with you. The crucifix is bright gold, the center a little darker. Nicely detailed crucifix and a simple center with portrait of Jesus on one side and Mary on the other. Great little sturdy rosary of a lovely color. In a private collection. Sold for $55.00
Art Deco Black Glass Rosary with Lourdes Water Very nice large (23") rosary from the the 1930s-1950s. Beads are black glass, each capped white metal. The crucifix is a simple ebony with brass corpus and INRI scroll. Very typically French. On the reverse of the crucifix is a little container of healing water from Lourdes. I'm sure it has evaporated by now, but there is a little visible residue. The back of the crucifix reads Lourdes, Pat. Pend. France. Just a lovely, very usable rosary. The center has a profile of Mary, while the reverse is the Grotto of Lourdes. Some of the white metal has worn away revealing brass underneath, giving the center a lovely aged appearance. Links are brass. Note- the jump ring that holds the crucifix to the rosary has been bent- this could very easily be replaced but I like to leave every rosary as found. Some people insist that antique rosaries remain in original condition. In a private collection. Originally $95.00, sold for $80.00 Antique Gilt and Deep Ruby Cut Glass Lourdes Rosary Beautiful old souvenir rosary from Lourdes. Deep ruby red hand cut glass beads make this a very striking small (18") antique rosary. Beautiful little crucifix with vines and flowers, on the back it says "Sr. de N D de Lourdes" and even has a tiny image of Bernadette and the Blessed Mother in the Grotto! A very precious antique rosary from France. There is some darkening on the center. In a private collection. Sold for $95.00
Pristine Vintage Aquamarine Cut Crystal and Sterling Rosary with Case This is a strikingly beautiful rosary with the most soothing hand cut crystal beads of a beautiful blue-aqua color. They are a warmer blue than what I call "icy blue" and have a hint of green which doesn't seem to show in the photographs. The beads show almost no wear at all which is amazing for a rosary that is a half a century old. Note the beautiful shape of the beads, the truncated pyramid shape for the Ave beads and round for the Pater beads. Note the beautifully detailed crucifix with crown of thorns. Both the crucifix and Sacred Heart of Jesus center are marked sterling. Each link has the extra circular link between that prevents kinking and indicates a very well-made rosary! The rosary comes with a vintage case of metal mesh. Although it looks like a Whiting and Davis, there is no name on it. Note that 2 of the little mesh pieces are loose, this could easily be repaired, and the case does show wear. The rosary is 211/2" long and would make a lovely gift! In a private collection. Sold for $175.00 Very Rare 19th C Antique French Jet Mourning Rosary Victorian Era French Jet Mourning Rosary. Black cut glass French Jet accent this lovely antique French rosary. For those who couldn't afford real jet beads, French Jet was very popular in the late 1800's to early 1900's for mourning jewelry. This is a wonderful example of an early French rosary with simple silver metal cross and heart shaped center. The center is worn to the brass in spots, the crucifix does not have as much wear but there is a tiny casting flaw- there is a slight separation of Jesus' right arm from the bodyeverything is very stable and secure though- I believe this is an original casting flaw and not a later break. See closeups for details. Once again- I do like to note every tiny flaw so there are no surprises. Wonderful and unusual antique rosaryyou will not find one like this in the States.
1800s Rare Strung Bavarian Antique Filigree Rosary, Deep Red Deep red handmade glass beads grace this silver filigree rosary from Bavaria. The beads do not have the orange tint in the photograph, they are deep blood red. From the 1800s, this is a traditional strung rosary. Bavaria held on to this traditional way of making rosaries long after other areas changed to using wirework. Note the beautiful filigree cross with dangle and the credo cross above. This rosary has had a rather hard life as the silver Pater beads are misshapen. Perhaps it was a child's favorite rosary and had some rough times. Despite the bending to the silver beads, all glass beads are present and matching. This is rather unusual, as strung rosaries were prone to breakage and bead replacement as they were lost. These are all present though and all matching. A jeweler could easily reshape the silver beads making this quite a bargain! One in perfect condition would be hundreds more. Perfect for display in a shadow box or placed on a stack of antique books. In a private collection. Originally $250.00, sold for $215.00 Antique French Art Deco Art Glass Rosary Gorgeous Antique Art Deco French rosary with Bohemian art glass beads and spacer medals of Jesus and Mary. So precious! It appears that there is a hallmark at the top of the Crucifix but I'm not 100% positive so the metal may or may not be sterling. Please note the six little Art Deco medals between the decades. This is a very delicate rosary with a thinner gauge wire so I would not recommend it for daily use. It can certainly be used, but with care and should be stored carefully also. A very subtle and dignified rosary. A little over 20" long when laid flat. One bead has a very slight chip on the end. In private collection. Sold for $135.00
