1 Savety Thank you for choosing DYNAPHOS studio lighting equipment! Before you proceed further, please read the instruction manual. Use of this product requires basic photographic knowledge and habits. Attention! Please, follow the savety instructions! Starter lighting equipment is designed for photo amateurs and it s not suitable for professional work, as also as any kind of intensive use! Keep out of reach of children! Make sure that the power outlet you plug the flash is working correctly. Do not disassemble or modify! There are high-voltage components inside the unit. Repairs should only be performed by authorised service personnel! Do not touch the lamp cap when the flash or modeling lamp is working due to risk of burns or electic shock! Disconnect the flash from the power supply when mounting accessories on or off or when you re cleaning the flash unit. Durint operation, some of the light control accessories may be heated to high tempetures! Wait to cool down before you mount them off. During operation, do not cover the flash! Make sure that the flash unit will not be activated in the vicinity of inflammable gases or liquids. Risk of explosions! Do not expose the flash unit to water drops and splashes! In every 30 continuous flashes at full power, leave the flash to cool down for about 3 minutes. Overheating will occur if it is used continuously without cooling down. Do not flash directly into eyes from a close distance! Direct flashing into the eyes of person or animals can cause damage to the retina and severe disruption of the vision up to and including permanent blindness! If the housing has been damaged in such a way that internal components are exposed, the flash unit may no longer be used. Disconnect from the power supply! Do not touch any internal components. HIGH VOLTAGE! Use only light controlling accessories autorized by DYNAPHOS Ltd.

Mounting the flash and preparing to work 3 pic. 1 pic. 2 pic. 3 screw 7. Mount the flash on a light stand and fix it through the screw 19 (see p. 2). Adjust the horizontal angle and secure the handle 18. To take down the protective cap or mounted accessory, hold down the front fit release button 15 turn the accessory counterclockwise and pull it forward (pic.1). To mount an accessory, proceed the opposite way as matching the feathers of the bayonet with the corresponding holes of the flashe body (pic.2). If the modeling lamp isn t installed in advance, installe it by using gloves or clean cloth (pic.3). Make sure that the power switch 11 is at position 0 and plug in the power cable into the power socket 13. Set the power switch at position I to turn on the flash. To work with photographic umbrella use the standard 15 cm reflector and place it with the umbrella outfit matching the flash umbrella holder (see the picture on the left). 4 Flash control Starter SK studio flash has power range from 1/1 to 1/8 (4 EV), which can be adjusted through the flash output controller 8 (see pic. 2) in 20 steps and it s shown on the digital display 2 with numbers from 1.0 to 3.0. Up arrow button serves to increase the power output, respectively, the one with arrow down serves to decrease the power output. Please notice, that after decreasing the power output you need to fire the flash ones to discharge the capacitors to the set lower power. If you reduce the power output with one more increment under 1.0, the digial display will show OF symbol and the flash will stay turn on, but it won t be able to fire a flash. Starter DE studio flash has fully manual control of the modeling light. To turn on or off the modeling lamp, press the button 3. You can steplessly control the modeling lamp in 9 steps, which will be shown on the back panel with the symbols L1 tо L9. For this purpose hold the button 3, until the modeling lamp power output indication shows on the back panel and start blinking (L1 до L9). Through the buttons 8 adjust the power output and when it s done, press once the button 3. When the flash is on and idle for more than two hours, the modeling lamp will automatically turn off. Restart the flash to turn it back on. Overload and overheat protection During continious work with the flash (large number of flashes for a short term), an overheating may occur. To protect the flash, don t make more than 20 flashes in a row with higher power output (2.0-3.0). After every 20 contiguous flashes leave the flash to cool down for at least 3 min. When working with light control accessories such as spots, which are preventing the cooling, you have to limit the modeling light use and the flash shouldn t be used too intense. If the flash is used carelessly about its temperature this may cause failure, in which case Dynaphos Ltd. reserves the right to refuse warranty repair.

5 Sync triggering Plug the sync cable or connect the flash trigger receiver in the usb port jack 6 (see p. 2) Connect the sunchro cable or the receiver with the camera and set the camera on the max. shutter speed. (check the camera manual instructions) When pressing the camera shutter release, simultaneously the flash will fire an impulse. If you use more than one flash, the others will be activeted through their photo cells. Use the button 4 to turn on or off the photo cell, as well as to set a mode for triggering with 1st or 2nd flash. (the last one is used when activating through TTL manual flash with Pre Flash function). When the button 4 indicator flashes blue, 1st flash trigger mode is set on, when it flashes red the 2nd flash mode is set on. When the photo cell is turn off, the indicator won t flash. In some cases it is possible the intense of the master flash to be insufficient to trigger the rest of the flashes through their photo cells. In this case use additional receivers for each flash. You can also trigger the flash by the Test button 10. Slave mode Through the optional FT-16 wireless power control and trigger, you can remotely trigger and control off the flash power, pilot light and the photo cell of 16 separate flashes (groups) Starter SK. For this purpose you will need a FT-16 power control and trigger kit (product 010288) The device is specially designed for work with studio flashes Expert QS, Speedster QT, Craftline GS, Starter DE, Witstro and XEnergizer. To trigger and power control a flash with FT-16: - open the battery compartment of the sender and place 2 alkaline batteries 1.5V AA as following the right polarity. - mount the sender in the camera HotShoe connector with the control panel towards to you and tighten the nut 6

- choose a working channel via the selector 9. and turn on the sender from the power switch 2 - place the receiver in the USB sync port 10 of the flash (see p. 2) and set on the same channel as the sender (check the further picture). From the selector 9 choose a working group. For work with more than one flash, you ll have to place a corresponding number of additional receivers FTR-16 (product 010289) for each flash and set them on the same channel as the sender. Preferably, the receiver of each flash has to be set on a different group in order each flash to be control separately. - choose a working group (a flash) from the selector of the sender; to change the power output of the flash use the -/+ button 5; through the Lamp button 10 you can turn on or off the modeling light; through the Buzz button 3 you can turn on or off the sound signal; through the Test button 12 you trigger the flash or make a test flash. - the transmitter is designed for different models lightning. To work with Starter SK-200, hold down the button Set 4 until the screen display number 1.0 - when pressing a button the indicator 11 must flash, if this don t happen place a new batteries and try again. - after finnishing work turn off the sender from the power switch 2 - keep the antenna 7 save from mechanical damage 6 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 9
