New Policies and Procedures
Buddy System The person you are sitting next to is your buddy. In your agenda, write down their: Full name Email Home phone Cell phone If you are absent, they will collect an extra assignment and make sure it gets to you.
Late/Absent Work You have until the end of the week to turn in a late assignment or make-up a test If you miss Friday, you have until the end of the day The gradebook will be closed on Fridays. Once a 0 is entered, it will stay a 0 until the end of the semester. You will have a Saturday detention for not turning in a major essay/project/etc. the first day it is due.
Extra Credit Project One extra credit project will be given at the 15-week. To earn it, you must: Have only 3 zeros entered into the gradebook for the entire semester. Have completed ALL major essays, projects, tests, etc.
Tutoring Tutoring is: Friday at 7:00 AM or 3:45 PM. If you do not arrive by 7:05 or 3:50, you will be given a Saturday detention. To be on time you must: Sit down Take out any current work for English such as flashcards, reading, etc. Begin to work silently/independently Doctor s appointments, dentist appointments, etc. must be scheduled around tutoring. If you have adult school, you must reschedule it to Saturdays. See Ms. Perez or Ms. Medina as to how.
Vocabulary You must have a vocabulary flashcard booklet by next Monday. We will put all flashcards in this booklet and keep them together Vocabulary is cumulative from last semester, and we will have 3 cumulative vocabulary tests.

Sophoclean Tragedy Hamartia Peripeteia Catharsis It is based on events that already took place. The audience is familiar with these events. The protagonist (main character) is a person of noble birth and stature. The protagonist has a weakness (hamartia) and, because of it, becomes isolated and suffers a downfall (peripeteia). Because the protagonist's fall is not entirely his or her own fault, the audience may end up pitying him or her. The fallen protagonist gains self-knowledge. He has a deeper insight into himself and understands his weakness. The audience undergoes catharsis, a purging of emotions, after experiencing pity, fear, shock and other strong feelings. Story book The Tragedy of A Prince Page 3: Page 1: The prince and his brothers worship Ares in the temple because they have recently returned from battle victorious. Page 4: Page 2 While praying, the prince finds a prophecy written that one of the king s sons will cause his death. Page 5 The prince loves his father, so in a rage (his hamartia) he kills all his brothers so they cannot harm his father. The king, upon seeing his sons massacred, immediately dies of heartache and grief. The prince suffers peripeteia, and is banished from the land because of his actions. His sister ascends the throne due to her devotion to Athena.
