Caricatures CHARLES JAMES FOX
Welcome!! Thank you for taking the time to have a look through this brochure! I very much look forward to helping you produce a wonderful piece of artwork which will be a 'forever' gift for a special person. Whether you are looking for a simple caricature of one person, a group of work colleagues, or a team of players, your needs can be met, and you will just love the final result. Illustrating and cartooning for a large number of private commissions, national and international magazines, organisations, celebrities all over the world, there is not much I have not been fortunate enough to create for people. Getting thoughts out of someone's head and putting them onto paper is great fun, so the caricature process is an interactive one for the customer. Supplying photographs, ideas, stories and other information via email, we can create the piece together, wherever you are in the world. The best pieces have plenty details and objects relevant to the individual in the caricature. They make great talking pieces in a home or office, giving the subject the opportunity to disclose all the life stories referenced in the picture. No amount of detail is too much, there is always space for a burst orange, or a deck of cards, gambling chips or a broken surfboard... You get the idea.. I hope you enjoy the following pages outlining how we can put the caricature together and the steps taken to ensure that you are left with a beautiful and completely unique gift that will leave the recipient looking to find all the little hidden references to their life throughout the picture. A genuine gift for life for someone special. CHARLES JAMES FOX
The caricature process Ok, so you are keen to find out how we go about getting this done. All caricatures are finished in watercolour and ink, are all hand drawn and painted and produced on heavyweight watercolour card which can be framed and mounted, or sent to you flat for you to present. Caricatures can be commissioned from all over the world. To get the caricature started, you will need to provide some photos via email. Either via email or over the phone, a design brief can be constructed. This should include a list of items, places, hobbies, jobs, etc.. A pencil outline is then produced of the proposed caricature. This is returned to you for viewing and at this point we can add in, change, remove any details. It is normally
at this point, when the customer sees the full potential of what can be done that plenty more ideas come flooding in! This is great, as the more that can be squeezed in the better and we can, together, create a wonderful image which tells plenty stories! When the final pencil outline has been agreed, the lines are inked in and the colour starts being added using watercolour pencils. When all the areas have been filled, the colour is watered and blended to smooth over and create the final watercolour effect. To sharpen up the image, and to define the lines a thicker black outline is added to the main lines and also to add details on leaves, feathers, hair, grass, etc.. The final image is then scanned at high resolution and send to you via email for you to use as you wish. You will also receive a low resolution file of the image for use on social media or other web use. The original is then either framed and mounted and posted to you, or should you wish to frame yourself the image is supplied flat in a reinforced waterproof envelope. The best pieces contain lots of details, in particular items, places, animals, cars & interests of the person in the image. There really is no limit to what can be put on paper!
Order Information When ordering, please contact via email or phone to discuss your requirements or ideas and to get a quote. Just about anything is possible, so don't hold back!! The caricatures which contain the most detail are often the best, as it gives plenty opportunity to sneak in lots of references to a person's life. Artwork can be framed and mounted at an extra cost and will be sent via courier to your address. We use an acrylic alternative to glass when posting which is stronger, lighter and will not arrive in a million pieces! Attention to detail is what sets my artwork apart. You will deal directly with me throughout and be kept up to date as your artwork progresses! Even the smallest details are carefully completed to give a first class finish A detailed background sets a scene, but also offers opportunities to hide little references to stories!! the big picture... This group caricature, commissioned for the legendary Dr David English's 70th birthday was such fun to do. There are many references in here to his life, his wonderful achievements and his friends. It is something of an aim, and it also makes me smile, to hear a customer is still finding details they have never seen before in their pictures years after first receiving them!! I'm sure Dr Dave will be sitting looking at this in the next few years and see something he had never noticed!
