Introduction Adam Payne here, and before we get into the fun stuff, just a quick introduction. Nothing too long, I hate long drawn out stuff. For the past 16 years, I ve been living in Central Japan. For the past 4 of those, I have been doing this online thing. You can ready more about me here if you so wish: http://whoisadampayne.com/about me/ To cut along story short, it wasn t until I decided to focus ALL my efforts on mastering one traffic source, that things began to change. For me, that was YouTube. Traffic is the lifeblood of any Internet business and luckily for us, it is all around us. There is no such thing as traffic generation. It s already there. What we all need to do is direct it to a place of our choosing. We need to direct as much of it as we can for a small a price as we can. And it must be the right kind of traffic. Get all that right, and the battle is 80% won. The trouble is, what kind of traffic source to master? Well, EVERYTHING works. But you need to become real good with at least one source and it s my belief that YouTube is one of the best ways to grow your business. 3

Many successful companies and brands use YouTube for brand recognition, lead generation and straight up sales. Youtube is a search engine and so your prospects are already qualifying themselves by looking for the solutions you are going to provide. You just need to get in front of the right people, and enough of them. YouTube Ads Kickstart makes all of this possible and will take you from never having set up a YouTube ad at all, not only knowing how to do one, but how to do one exceedingly well. So let s get down to business. The 3 Main Types of Ads After chatting to a lot of people, it seems there are 2 misconceptions about YouTube Ads: 1. They are difficult 2. They are this year s in thing I will dispel both of the above concepts and my goal is to provide you all with a blueprint to creating a Youtube Ad even if you are completely clueless about the whole deal. So, How do YouTube Ads work? First let s look at in Search Ads 4

These are the best ones for the beginner as you do not need to actually create a new video. You just use one of your existing ones. These appear at the top of the search results after someone types in a search query. As you can see, they are related to my original search. A click on the Rosetta Stone Ad takes me here: 5

This is great, as it is their CHANNEL. More branding and teaches me about them and what they have to offer. If I click the annotation, I go here: 6

A landing page that is congruent and uses similar coloring Not only will this Ad attract clicks, but if the video does a good job, it will re redirect the traffic to a place of the advertiser s choosing. Oh, and it will also increase views which in turn will lead to better rankings. Who said buying views was bad? Next, let s look at in display ads These are great for beginners too as they are almost the same. Here, you are paying for the top spots on the RIGHT of the video you are watching. The funny thing here is that this takes me to YouTube s ads platform. Perhaps they want me to take out an ad? 7

Finally, let s look at in stream Ads In stream ads are what most people think of when it comes to YouTube Ads. Now, most people think they are annoying as hell, and that s fine. But They work IF done the right way. In stream ads are small videos that play before the video that you are hoping to watch. Often, you have the option to click away after 5 seconds. These appear before the video you are looking for plays. These ads need to catch the viewer's eye and take them away from the content they had just chosen to view. In doing so, targeting is incredibly crucial, as you want to keep your advertising as on topic as possible to the video your viewer just made clear they wanted to watch. In the following example I searched the phrase Learn to play the guitar I clicked on the top ranked video at the time and before it played, there was an In Stream Ad as the next image shows: 8

As you can see, the ad is guitar related so extremely targeted. I also have the option to skip the ad when a short time is up (5 seconds in this case) as well as go to the website if it peaks my interest. You only pay if 30 seconds are watched. If the viewer skips before the 30 secs are up, you don t pay anything. However if a viewer watches 30 seconds of your ad you will still be charged for that whether they click the ad or not. Then of course if somebody actually does click on your ad you will be charged. A huge difference with these ads is that when clicked viewers get sent to a website of your choice instead of your video. I clicked on the ad and this one took me here: 9

More congruency and non threatening. Even if someone skips the ad, it is still FREE branding for you or your company. Summary of Basic Ad Types Once you have something to offer, you know your ideal customer and have a place to send them, then you really should delve into this untapped and misunderstood market. There is of course, much more to it that the above and a lot of it will make more sense as you go through this course and the accompanying video training and actually take out some ads of yourself. Only so much learning you can do before you take action! So, let s start from the very beginning. First we are going to have to set up a YouTube Channel. We are also going to need to optimize it. 10

YouTube Channel Optimization First of all, you are going to need a YouTube Channel created, set up and optimized for you to not only be able to run YouTube Ads, but to also be perceived as a pro. If you already have a YouTube Channel, you can simply create a new one under your main one (they will still be totally separate from the perspective of the viewer) or, if you wish, use your main one. Your call. Having a bunch of channels under one main one is much easier to keep organised. A channel is akin to a blog or Facebook Fan Page so you need to take the time to make it SEO optimized and aesthetically pleasing. Step 1: To get a channel you can create a brand new GMail account and you ll get one but if you have one, I d keep it all under one umbrella and just go to: https://www.youtube.com/account and click on Create a New Channel. 11

Step 2: Agree to all the terms and services and you should be done. You allowed up to 50 channels (but doubt you ll need that many). You ll now have a channel like this: NOTE: If you plan to build out a BRAND, then I advise you create a new YouTube Channel via creating a GMAIL first. If not, and it s just for videos and traffic, then this is the easiest way. Step 3: Edit your account as and where necessary by clicking the gear icon in the top right (your settings) Step 4: You must verify your account either via call or text message. You will need to enter your phone number. 12

You ll need to either verify via a mobile phone number call or text message. To my knowledge, you can verify 2 channels per phone number and 2 channels per text message per year. If you ve used your quota, then ask a spouse or relative to use their phone. if that s not an option, get creative and get a prepaid phone or pay an outsourcer. 13

Step 5: Once this is done, your account is verified (this is essential) and now you can go down the list and enable as many of the options as possible. Step 6: Don t enable monetization(ads). Why have others have Ads on your account if you are going to run ads? No need to monetize your videos until you have a super authority channel that does not aim to drive traffic off of Youtube. Step 7: You will need to enable External Annotations by associating a Website. To do this, you need to have/own a website where you will be sending your traffic to. You can use many websites per channel. Watch this being done here. A video is just easier to follow for this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iomjq7nb4og Step 8: You need to edit your profile to make it more aesthetically pleasing. a. Edit your profile pic. (hover over it, click it and edit it. Will take you to a Google + profile to do so). b. Add some channel Art. outsource it if you need to do so. Here is an example from my personal channel: 14

This is my personal channel so I have my image and a few of my brands. People know what this channel is about and it looks professional. I also have the arrow on the bottom right pointing to a clickable link encouraging people to click. This leads to a congruent lead capture page. Step 11 goes over this. Step 9: Go to your Channel description and fill it in. The first 156 characters are the most important. Be detailed and do not skip this part. Include your keywords) naturally throughout. Step 10: Add an email ( do not use a yahoo/gmail. Look professional. You can use CPanel to create a forwarder. Not sure how to do that? YouTube it : ) Step 11: Add links to your channel Art. You can add as may as you want but a max of 5 will show on the channel art itself. When logged in, hover over the pen icon top right of the channel art and hit edit links: 15

Then add your links. A max of 5 can appear on your channel art. So make sure the first 5 are the 5 you want. Step 12: Edit channel navigation. The first step is to enable browse mode. This will allow you to have 2 Channel Trailer. One for returning subscribers and one for new visitors. Little Tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vp92fnd3p2i 16

So, all that s left for you to do is to create some videos and upload them. You have a cool looking channel though that is ready to rock! The next step is to create an AdWords account. Creating An AdWords Account We are unable to set up and run ads without an Adwords account. If you have one you can, of course, skip this section. If you don t have an AdWords account, then you can set one up here: http://google.com/adwords 17

It s a case of filling in the details. I presume everyone reading this can input their name, address and personal information so I won't belittle you with screenshots and explanations. Hope that s cool with you. Billing Once the details are filled in, you ll need to enter your billing information. To do this, login to your newly created Adwords account and click on the cog in the top right corner and then Billing. Add your details as required. Make sure to double check everything. You can change the language to English if you are an expat like me and living in a non English speaking country. Connecting Your YouTube Channel Now your Adwords account is created, we are going to need to connect it to your YouTube Channel. Here are the basic steps you ll need to take: a. Click your logo (picture) and from the drop down click on Creator Studio. 18

b. On the left hand side, click on the Channel Tab c. Then click on Advanced d. From here, you'll need to click on Link an Adwords Account 19

e. There will be a space for you to enter your Google Adwords customer ID. You will need to grab this from your Adwords account Login to your adwords account and on the top right, there will be a 10 digit number. That s it. Simply copy it. f. Copy and paste it in and then hit next 20

g. Name your account whatever you would like. Leave all the boxes checked. h. Click Finish and then wait for Approval from Google : ) We are not quite done though. You ll now need to head back on over to your Adwords account. Under the campaigns tab, hit the red button that says +Campaign. From the dropdown choose online Video / Video (the wording will change depending on whether this is your first time or not). 21

Then from the shared library on the left click on Linked YouTube Accounts. From here click on the view request button and then finally Confirm. Phew... You are now done and ready to get up and running with YouTube Ads. I know it can seem a lot when written out in a PDF, but it s only once and it s not that hard really. The Video for your Ad: It goes without saying that you will need a video that you are going to use in your video Ads. There are several types of video that you can use and it really depends on what your goal is. Do you want to build a list? Drive folk to an E Commerce store? Direct link to an affiliate offer (Adwords compliant of course)? That part only you know. 22

VSL: Video Sales letters. VSLs can be daunting for some people and to outsource, they can be VERY expensive. They take time and require excellent copywriting skills if they are to convert well. Images can help you bring your VSL to life as can background music and an upbeat tone. Provide value to your crowd and fluff free. One tip is to study related VSLs to see what words they use, what triggers they use. To do this, go to Clickbank and check out the VSLs of High gravity offers. Record them and then go back and work your way through. It can be time consuming, that s true, but no one said this was easy. An absolutely fantastic tool for creating VSLs is called Easy VSL and works on MAC or PC and super smooth. Grab it! Get EASY VSL here. NOTE: If you can create simple VSLs using the above tool, you can outsource this skill to make $$ if need be. Google Hangouts: While these give your video a human touch, they can be choppy and not always have the best delivery. They are free though and for videos you want to rank, they do very well. Lead Generation: If your goal is to build your list, then you really want to provide a short video, ideally with you speaking that tells the viewer who you are and why they need to opt in to get the gift you are offering. Other types of videos you could make: 23

Testimonials Case Studies (Live) How to. NOTE: Once we have our video, we are going to need to set up some stuff but first let s look at finding our target audience. For now, upload your video as UNLISTED. Can edit it later. Targeting: Finding Your Audience Ok This is the research stage. Ask yourself this: What is the number one keyword you would want to go for within your niche? For example: How to lose tummy fat How to quit smoking How to create a website Bad breath treatment Product name review You get the idea. Nothing too specific but still, related to what you have to offer. The first step is to choose your main keyword that you want to target and put that into YouTube. Check out the competition of the top ranked video. So for arguments sake, let s say we wanted to target the phrase How to teach a child to read. 24

What I would do is simple. Go to YouTube and enter that exact longtail keyword phrase and see what the top video is. Grab the URL and come over to Adwords and click on the TOOLS section and go to the Display Planner. From here add the URL into Your Landing Page. Next, get Ad Group ideas. Give it a second to get the data. After, go to Individual targeting Ideas. and you ll get a ton of data. 25

The next image highlights the amount of data that they find and present on a plate for you to use. To get this you ll need to click on Individual targeting ideas and Google will give you the information you need : ) The display planner tells you the keywords people are using, their interests, the topics and so on. You can target these specifics with your ads. So let s look at what awesome intel Adwords is giving us about the number one ranked video on Youtube: 27

First, it throws up some keywords that we may not have thought of. We can add these to our plan for later when we take out our ad. Although I cover this, you will NOT need many keywords. 1 10 for now should more than suffice. Another option is to target Interests. As you can see from the below image, there are In market interests and Affinity Interests. In market are always more targeted but sometimes you will only have affinity. As you can see for example, the interest Foreign Language Study gets 1 5 BILLION impressions per week. Think you can t get some traffic from that? 28

We also have Topics. Teaching & Classroom resources gets 500 million to 1 billion impressions per week. You could, if you wanted, target that topic in your ads. 29

We can even target placements. Within placements we can see the top channels in that niche and target a particular channel. This channel gets 50 100 million impressions per week. Some of the traffic authority channles get is insane. 30

Play around with this, get accustomed to it and be amazed at the intel that is at your fingertips. Set up Your Tracking In this section, we are going to cover setting up conversion pixels on your website. You ll need to do this to know how well (or poorly) your ads are doing. And yes, this needs to be done NOW, not after you set up an ad or two. If you have ever done this on Facebook, you ll know just how important it is. After all, you cannot scale what you cannot measure. To make it easy, these pixels are put on pages AFTER people take a certain action. So, if we are tracking leads, then we put the conversion pixel on the page directly AFTER they opt in, such as the thank you page. The same goes for tracking buyers. As soon as a purchase is made, buyers will reach a page. The pixel goes on the page they reach right after purchase. So, let s look at this using some sexy images. First, you need to go to Tools inside of your Adwords and then click on Conversions 31

From here, click on +conversion. You ll then be given 4 options. Choose Website. Unless you are doing a certain specific type of marketing, webiste is what you need. 32

On the next page, the first thing you need to do is name your pixel (this is just for convenience and the name choice is yours). Assigning a Value When it comes to assigning a value, this will depend. How much is a conversion worth to you? If you are tracking leads (opt ins), then you check Don t assign value. NOTE: If you want to track numbers, you can assign a lead a value of.01 That way you can simply count how many leads you have got and compare with your autoresponder to ensure the numbers match up. Your call. For sales, it s easy. If you are selling a $17 offer. Then the value is $17. 33

If you own the product, this is easier to set up. For CPA offers or affiliate marketing it becomes more complicated and you will need a special kind of tracking system such as Voluum or CPV Labs and that is beyond the scope of this report. If you have an E com store that sells a wide variety of products, then you will need to check. The Value of the conversion may vary. Click DONE. Next, you ll see you have a choice of: a) All or b) Unique Choose Unique! Otherwise someone could, in theory, visit your page 20 times and you ll get 20 conversions. You don t want that (unless you are a bit weird, then I guess you may). In short, unique conversions means that ONE person will always only be counted ONCE. The next step is the Conversion Tracking Window. What is this? In short, it s how long you want to track conversions. So, if your ad appears, but someone does not take the desired action for say, 30 days, then this will still count as a conversion. Category Section 34

The category section is self explanatory. Choose the best fit for your campaign. For optimization, leave it on. When saved, you ll get given a scary looking code. Arrrgh! Copy the code and place it on the page that the prospect reaches AFTER they take a desired action. It must be placed between the <body></body> tags of the specific web page that you d like to track. Now I know that many people will use different websites and themes. Here are some options: OptimizePress 2 users First, open up the relevant page and go to the LIVE EDITOR. Then, you need to click on the page settings 35

From here, click on other scripts 36

Finally, copy the Code into the body tag as below: When you return back to your Adwords account and save, you ll get a message from Google saying Congratulations... You re ready to start measuring your campaign success. ClickFunnels Users 37

Open up the relevant page in the Editor. Click on Settings and then the Tracking Codes Link. A box will open up. Now, Adwords code needs to go in the Body tags but Clickfunnels only provides a header and footer. For Adwords code, you need to put it in the footer. It works that way in Clickfunnels. 38

We have our pixel all ready to go too. So what next? Sexying up our video is what : ) Annotations and Cards In order to get the most out of YouTube Ads, you are going to need to choose a video to which you ll be driving traffic. It s very important that your video meets a certain criteria and that is what we are going to cover in this module. 39

You are going to want to choose your best video for this so that you can, of course, get the best results. Length: To be perfectly honest, do not stress on this so much. It will vary depending on your audience and the type of video that you have. Call to Action: Your video will need to have a good, strong, clear call to action [ C.T.A ] so that it is clear to all viewers what action they need to take and what will happen afterwards. That could be subscribing to your channel, opting in for a gift or making a purchase. To make your call to action even clearer, you will want to add annotations and YouTube cards at relevant points ( A max of 3 annotation so as not to appear too desperate) as well as verbalizing it. How to Set Up Annotations: Setting these up isn t hard, but we will go through the process just in case you ve never done it before. 99% of the time, I use speech bubbles or Notes. And they appear in your video at any time you desire and for as long as you want. 42

YouTube Cards How they differ from Annotations is this: They are mobile responsive which means that people can, unlike the old annotations, see them on their phone and click on them. As a ton of traffic is via mobile these days, it s imperative that you employ cards on all your videos. Old annotations were text only on a colored background. YouTube cards allow you to add a small graphic making them aesthetically pleasing to the eye and overall appear more professional You can add up to 5 YouTube cards per video. They are only really worth it if you have your website associated so make sure to do that (see Annotations Section). Simple! Ok, so our video is almost ready to drive traffic to. All we need now is a custom thumbnail. Thumbnails Thumbnails are important, yet most courses on YouTube I ve come across either neglect to talk about them or only mention them in passing. Custom Thumbnails are the still image that people see when they are scrolling YouTube. By default, when you upload a video, YouTube will choose 3 still shots from your video that you can choose from but more often than not they choose a shot from the video that is utterly boring or worse still, a photo of you with your mouth open and tongue hangin out. What you ll want to do is upload your own, or Custom Thumbnail. In short, the job of the thumbnail is to get the click. But there is a method behind the madness that I ll explain here. So, I typed in the search term How to get rid of Acne and these were the results that appeared on page on one of YouTube: 46

All apart from the second one are Custom Thumbnails. The second one appears to be a shot from the video itself. Ask yourself, which picture would you most likely click on? The last one is boring, at least to me. No text telling me what the video is about. The top one calls out to me. If I were an acne sufferer, I would want to get rid of it fast and the graphic is colorful and clear. So, I clicked on it. 47

Then, when I was watching that video, on the right hand side, related videos appeared. If I were a REAL prospect, then I may have been drawn to another video if it had a great thumbnail and title. And, if I clicked on that video, the original channel has lost me. It s game over for them. Thumbnails are vital. 48

They get clicks. Clicks means views. Views mean rankings (organic). And if we paid for the top spot with an Ad, we sure as heck do not want to waste the chance of a click. Tips for thumbnails: Have a resolution of 1280x720 (with minimum width of 640 pixels). Be uploaded in image formats such as.jpg,.gif,.bmp, or.png. Remain under the 2MB limit. Try to use a 16:9 aspect ratio as it's the most used in YouTube players and previews. The Image must be attractive to your target audience. Campaign Setup The first thing you need to do, after logging into your Adwords account is to set up a campaign. So, click the orange button and from there you are going to want to click Online Video 50

Name your campaign & select your budget Name: You need to name the campaign with all the necessary details. Example: UK In Display Ad Diabetes Keywords Budget: Now, while you do want to send yourself broke, you are going to want to spend as much as you can. Why? because right now you are buying data. Pure and simple. $20 per day is a good benchmark but of course, if you need to go lower, then do what you have to do. 51

Delivery Method: Networks: I would choose YouTube search for now. This means your Video will appear at the top of the YouTube search results. Uncheck the display network for now. Youtube videos refers to instream ads and while these work well, they're harder to set up and to do these effectively, I use a 3rd party service called Veroll. You can get started with them here should you wish. For now though, we will not be looking at instream ads any more. 52

Delivery Match: Phrase match limits impression ability but the targeting is there. It can be hard to spend money on these campaigns. Hard to get volume. Do this when you start to learn and not spend too much money. Also good for organic boosting strategy to get more views. In short: Standard if targeting broad match Accelerated if targeting phrase match If your ad is country specific, choose what fits. Language: This is common sense depending on the offer and country targeting. Devices: In this section you need to decrease MOBILE by 100% as we are targeting desktop only. Ad Delivery: Optimize for conversions (as we have the pixel placed already so why wouldn t we optimize for conversions). Of course, if it is only views and you have no other purpose but to get more views and you do NOT have a pixel, then optimize for views, otherwise, choose conversions. (see next image). Ok. When you add a video URL, a new menu will pop up and you will be able to choose the type of ad and a whole host of things. After you click on in display ad, you ll see a new image: 55

Write Your Ad Copy: Before we delve deep into where to place the copy, I want to speak about copy in general and this will help with many things. Your Annotations, thumbnails as well as the actual ads. The copy is the thing that invokes curiosity and gets the person to click. You do not want to tell them too much. They must click to know the answer. Also, you cannot use words that will raise a red flag with Google. No over the top claims nor guarantees. Title: Suffering from Stress? View ad on Channel always (IMO). This will mean that they see the video on your channel. So if, for some reason, The viewer gets distracted by something on the page, at least it will be something of yours, not another person s video. Bidding When it comes to bidding, remember that your bid is not what you will pay Targeting I always target keywords as I want my video to appear at the top of the search results for things that people actually type into the YouTube search engine. So,I check it. Now, this can be tedious but hey. You can manually type in some phrases (one phrase per line) Don t add too many. 1 5 is enough. The More you put in the more your ad will be served and the more keywords you enter, the more variables you have. So just use a few. This is a getting started guide. Heck, even 1 keyword phrase would be ok. 57

In short, the smaller your budget, the less keywords you need. Now, you may need to up your bid if you have some big players against you. But this is life. This is marketing. Up your bid. You won t end up paying this. (only necessary if Google tells you to do it. Not always gonna happen). Think about this. Your pay rate will go down if you get more views. If you bid higher, you ll get more ad serves hence more chances to be viewed. it s a balancing act. Now, we save ad group. You may get a warning telling you that you have to up your bidding to get more views. That is because you may be going up against big companies who can afford to bid higher. Want to get some action? Then, you need to do what YouTube (Google) says. Up your bid. Then we link our channel if you ve not done so before (but hopefully you did) Now go to campaign and Video targeting. Go to Exclusions at the bottom right and uncheck everything. Save. NEXT. Go to your campaign and then demographics. At the bottom hit Exclusions and go through the options pertaining to your target audience. Congratulations. You are DONE Google Needs to Approve it before the ad starts running Once you are done then it is just a case of waiting for Google 58

Summary: If this is your first time, then congrats for getting this far. Once you have done it a few times it becomes like riding a bike. Something you thought you d never be able to do is actually fairly easy. Besides, many things like Channel set up and getting an Adwords account creation only need to be done once. All you need to do is keep an eye on your data and optimize where and when necessary. Finally, do not have the mindset that every YouTube ad is going to be a home run. Like anything, some campaigns will fail. But you have bought data! You now know what works and what doesn t. So go on with your bad self and make some money! 59
