Objectives f the Curse This curse is abut entrepreneurship and venture capital, which invlves new venture start-up and its relatinship t the venture capital. The curse is articulated int three main parts, tightly interrelated. The First Part (Venture Capital) has the bjective t lead yu t understand what venture capital (VC) is, hw it wrks, hw yu can structure a capital raising with a VC and hw it can help entrepreneurial initiatives. Accrdingly, we will address the fllwing issues regarding venture capital: Why venture financing? Hw venture capitalists wrk? Hw can venture capitalists help? Hw is a venture financing structured? What is the valuatin f a cmpany? Hw d venture capitalists d it? This curse will nt necessarily make yu a bna fide venture capitalist r entrepreneur but will give yu a clearer idea abut the challenges yu will face in launching a new start-up business and lking fr financial resurces and what it means t create a new business and t wrk fr an entrepreneurial cmpany. The Secnd Part (Entrepreneurship) is abut peple and the prcesses related t launching and building new ventures and transfrming them int sustainable and valuable enterprises. In additin, this curse addresses the questins f entrepreneurship as a different management style and hw new ventures are frmed. I will assemble a grup f judges wh will will angel invertrs r venture capitalists. Each team will make a 20-min presentatin fllwed by a 5- min Q&A. The Third Part (Case Studies): - This curse is designed t be challenging. Yu shuld expect t prepare a ttal f three cases during the semester. This semester, we will chse Xiameter - The Past and Future f a "Disruptive Innvatin"", Hw Venture Capitalists Evaluate Ptential Venture Opprtunities, and Preparing fr the Ggle IPO fr ur case studies. Students are required t submit three three-page memranda n the fur cases. I will assign members f each study grups a week prir t ur first lecture. Yu will wrk in teams. Only ne memrandum need be handed in fr each given grup. The memranda shuld be typed fnt-12 and dublespaced. The three-page limit is fr text nly. Yu may attach ther supplementary materials as yu wish. The memranda will reflect hw well yu have prepared fr case studies and participatin. The memrandum is due 9:00 am in the mrning when a case study will take place later the same day. Any memrandum after 9:00 am will nt be accepted and be deemed zer pints gained. Fr each case study, ne grup will be randmly chsen t give a 20-min presentatin n the backgrund f the case. Gd presentatin will be cnsidered fr bnus pints at my discretin. The remaining grups are expected t actively participate in case discussins. Class attendance, preparatin, and active participatin in discussins are critical t the learning prcess. Yu are expected t arrive in class n time. Each mrning and afternn perid will be cnsidered a sessin. If yu missed a ttal f five sessins, yu will autmatically fail the curse.
