HCTP - History 1 st Meeting The launching of the Hellenic Construction Technology Platform with emphasis in: - Sustainable Construction - Protection of Cultural Heritage took place in the framework of HELECO 05 [5th International Exhibition and Conference on Environmental Technology], in February 5, 2005. HCTP - Deliverables The Greek Platform will strive: to provide the National Vision of 2010, 2020, 2030, reflecting the Greek peculiarities in research construction sector, pointing out thematic areas of special interest to define the National Strategy in accordance with the Strategic Research Agenda to contribute to the editing of National European recommendations, standards and directives to mobilize the construction industry sector to contribute to the establishment of European Consortiums for proposals submission in the field with the active Greek participation to contribute to the elaboration and application of the needed sectorial policies and practices to improve the competitiveness of Greek construction sector at European level and the competitiveness of EU construction sector at developing countries: Under EU incorporation countries Balkan, Mediterranean Countries Countries of central Asia, Africa

National Strategy Reformation of the Construction Industry aiming at: Knowledge - based industry, production of smart materials, innovative automation technologies and ICT high innovative character (based on research and technology) improved competitiveness an attractive and viable labor environment keeping its primary employment role at national and European level

National Strategy Towards public profit and society & end- users demands for improvement of quality of life healthy, safe and easily accessed built environment for everyone improved image function of Cities of Cultural Heritage effective use of public infrastructures (underground, marine, transport works) mobility and communication through effective networks

National Strategy Towards the environmental sustainability through materialisation of sustainable construction and cultural heritage protection: Reduction of resources use [ECTP Target for 2030: 30%] Minimization of construction environmental impacts [ECTP Target for 2030: 40%] Minimization of environment impact to the built environment constructions, leading to cost reduction and lifetime increase, with the use of quality assurance systems [ECTP Target for 2030: 50%] Sustainable management of buildings and civil infrastructures in their entire life cycle

National Strategy Towards the environmental sustainability through materialisation of sustainable construction and cultural heritage protection: Total quality control of structures in real scale - real time, based on sustainability criteria regarding their preventive conservation Protection of Cultural Heritage and incorporation to contemporary life and development, satisfying the criteria for safety, respect and compatibility towards the authentic design, materials and structures Protection of buildings infrastructures against natural and anthropogenic hazards and disasters

HCTP Interventions to the ECTP Sustainable Construction should become the general strategy of the construction sector Cultural Heritage Protection should become a basic pillar of the European Strategy

HCTP Interventions to the ECTP Emphasis on cities and cultural heritage. The vision for European Cities should not include only underground infrastructure, but should also include: The incorporation of historic centers to the city context Rehabilitation of abandoned and degrading traditional neighborhoods areas of architectural interest Support to civil infrastructures by underground, coastal, marine works

HCTP Interventions to the ECTP ADVISORY GROUP to assure public participation Active participation of end-users and social carriers in local, regional and European level in order to develop the European Strategy An Advisory Group, that ensures public control, will actively participate in the formation of strategies and the implementation of visions within the ECTP Under this framework, HCTP has invited all the interested sectors (private and public) in an open Forum.

HCTP Interventions to the ECTP Need for the establishment of an action plan, promoting: Research policies Sectorial policies Cooperations for technological research which are indispensable for the materialisation of the HCTP targets. Development and adoption of standards and recommendations regarding all the management and production stages in the construction, the built environment, and the cultural heritage, for the realisation of the national and European visions. Promotion of specific projects by the respective National Carrier (General Secretary for Research and Technology), such as EUREKA, EUREKABUILD, through financial and organisational support. As far as the banking sector is concerned, development of incentives and pores through the cooperation of the public and the private sector, promoting this way innovation in the construction sector activities, performed even by the private sector.
