Guide to Completing the UK Online Tier 4 Application Form

Access the online Tier 4 form through the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) website: https://visas-immigration.service.gov.uk/product/tier-4-student To create your Tier 4 form click on Apply Now at the bottom of the page. If you have started an application before you can either continue your previous one or click on Start a new application.

If you are using the University Check and Send Service you must ensure you only complete a draft version of the online application form. You then print this out and bring it to the Student Services Centre along with your original supporting documents. You must not complete the form or pay anything. Stop once you reach the Declaration Page in the application and then print the draft form.

The ribbon at the top of the page shows the different sections of the online application. You must be applying from within the UK to use this application form. If you are applying from overseas then please see this webpage for further guidance: http://www.studentnet.manchester.ac.uk/crucialguide/academic-life/immigration/applying-overseas/

Answer no to this question unless you already have an ongoing visa application in the UK. You can only have one visa application ongoing at a time. If you already have a visa application ongoing and then make a new application, then the new application replaces the previous one. Contact the Student Immigration Team if this applies to you.

This is referring to a solicitor or lawyer. only Please answer no to this question if you are using the University s Check and Send Service. You can see all your answers in the form at any time by clicking on Show your answers. This is also how you change your answers if you have answered them incorrectly.

You need to include an email address and password for any applications you make. You will be emailed a link to your specific application form which you can use to resume your application from where you left it. The form will ask if you have any additional email addresses which UKVI can contact you with. Please keep your password safe as you will need to use it to access the application form again should you leave it at any time.

If you are applying with your dependants then you must add them to the application form by clicking here. You will then need to answer questions for each dependant you are applying with. You are only eligible to bring dependants to the UK if you are studying a postgraduate course of at least 12 months in duration (Level NQF 7 or above), or if you are studying a course of longer than six months and you are financially sponsored by your Government.

Write all of your given names as they appear on your passport Include details of any other names you may have had or that you are officially known by. For instance if you are married or divorced you may have had a different name before. Do not include nicknames.

Write your address in Manchester including your room and flat number if you are living in a Hall of Residence. If you are applying through the Visa Check and Send Service you must write our address as the correspondence address. We will email you to collect your biometric enrolment letter and documents when we receive them. Tick the box to say I want to receive mail at a different address The correspondence address should be: S. Hargreaves, Student Services Centre University of Manchester Oxford Road Manchester M13 9PL

Using the Priority or Premium Service If you are using the Priority or Premium Service for your Tier 4 visa application you can choose whether or not to use our office as your correspondence address. This is recommended if you are not sure if someone will be available to sign for your new visa when it is delivered. UKVI will not inform you of when your documents will be delivered. You should still submit your application to us to check and we will email you to collect your documents back from us. You must then complete the application yourself and follow UKVI s instructions. To use the Priority Service you must request a Priority application with UKVI and they will email you a special weblink to your priority form. You then have 24 hours to complete your application online and 2 days to send your documents to UKVI yourself.

Please check all your personal details against your passport and CAS to ensure this is completely accurate. You can add any other nationalities later in the form. Remember that the first nationality you enter will be taken into consideration by UK Visas & Immigration for this application. Answer your place of birth exactly as it appears in your passport.

If you have your current passport please use it to answer the following questions. You must provide your passport as part of the visa application. If you cannot provide your passport then you must choose an explanation as to why not.

This question is asking for details of any identity card you may have for your country of nationality. Unlike with your passport, you do not need to include your identity card with your visa application.

You should include the details of any other nationalities or citizenships you hold or have previously held in the past.

Please answer yes as you should have a current visa in the UK If you do not have a valid visa, for example because your visa has expired and you have over-stayed in the UK, then you must contact us so that we can advise you.

Answer this question by looking at the start and end dates of your current visa e.g. BRP card.

You must answer yes to this question if your visa in the UK has ever been cancelled, curtailed or revoked. This will not be the case for most students. This is most likely to occur if you completed a course earlier than expected, were withdrawn from or left any course in the UK, or took an official interruption from any studies for longer than 60 days. You will have been contacted about any such cancellation from your institution and from the Home Office.

You should answer yes to this question if you currently hold a Tier 4 Student visa.

Students from certain nationalities require a police registration certificate. Please see our website for more information. If you have a police registration certificate you must include it in your Tier 4 application and ensure that it has your most recent address on it. If your certificate was issued by Greater Manchester police you can update your address at any police station without an appointment. If your police registration certificate was not issued by Greater Manchester police you need to book an appointment to update your address. You can book the appointment through the MyManchester webportal. If you cannot book the appointment or you need to book an appointment for dependants as well you need to email ssc@manchester.ac.uk

You may not have a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP card) if your visa vignette in your passport covers the entire length of your course. If so you should answer No, I did not have a biometric residence permit for my most recent leave If you do have a BRP card please write the permit number, found on the top right of the card.

Most of you will not have a National Insurance Number. You will only have a National Insurance number if you have applied for one, for example with intentions to work in the UK If you do not have one please tick the box to say I do not have a National Insurance number, or I have a temporary one

The next few questions are referring to your English language ability. Your CAS will tell you what your English language evidence is. In most cases the CAS confirms that the University has assessed your language ability. You should answer no to this question so that the correct answer appears in the form.

In most cases your CAS will confirm that the University has assessed your English language to B2 level. Check your CAS states that HEI Sponsor Assessment or Higher Education Institution (HEI) sponsor has made assessment. If so please answer yes to this question. The application form will then move to the next question about public funds. If your CAS does not state this then you should answer no and the form will ask further questions about English language.

Alternatively your CAS may state that Migrant holds degree from majority English speaking country. If so please answer yes to this question instead. In most cases you should answer that you will provide your certificate of qualification as evidence.

This question is asking if you have had any previous issues with immigration to or in the UK. This includes if you have had a UK visa application refused, been denied entry to the UK at the border, or have been removed, deported or required to leave the UK. If you are not sure if this applies to you please contact us. If this does apply in your case, you need to choose the right option and write a short summary of what happened.

This question is asking if you have had any previous issues with immigration to any countries other than the UK. This includes if you have had a visa application refused for another country, been denied entry at the border, or have been removed, deported or required to leave any country other than the UK. If you are not sure if this applies to you please contact us. If this does apply in your case, you need to choose the right option and write a short summary of what happened.

If you have received public funds in the UK and need to answer yes' to this question then please contact us. This includes child benefit, income support, jobseeker s allowance, universal credit, disability support, housing benefit. You can see a full list of what is included in this definition if you click yes to this answer. You can then change this back to no if it does not apply to you. Council tax exemption for students is not classed as a public fund. In most cases you should answer no to this question

If you have any criminal or civil offences in the UK or in a different country you must include these. The form will then ask for more details. It is very important that you disclose any such offences on the Tier 4 form as otherwise UKVI can view this as deception If you are worried about declaring this in your application or are not sure if it applies to you please contact us. If you have no criminal or civil offences please answer No, I have never had any of these

Please ensure you answer these questions accurately and do not make any errors due to the seriousness of the questions in this section.

Please write the answers to these questions exactly as they appear here. The sponsor licence number is Q3DK76WN4 The address is the main University s address as written in the box.

Answer yes to this question as for most students the main site of study is The University of Manchester. If you will be studying at a different site of study to the University in Manchester, for example because you may be studying a split-site PhD, please contact us.

Please check your new CAS to answer this. If you applied for your main course through UCAS then your UCAS ID number will be stated on your CAS for you to include. If your CAS does not have a UCAS ID number on it then please answer no

Your new CAS will tell you if you need an ATAS certificate. Only certain courses require ATAS permission. If you need an ATAS certificate for your main course then you should have applied already and will need to include your ATAS certificate with your visa application. If you have not received your ATAS certificate by the time you need to apply for the visa we would advise you apply through the Visa Check and Send Service as we may be able to assist with this. You are not allowed to start studying a new course until you receive your ATAS certificate if the course requires one.

An official financial sponsor is only one of these: Government, University, International company, International organisation Answer yes if you are being sponsored or have been sponsored within the last 12 months for fees and/or maintenance by an official financial sponsor. Answer no of you are or have been self-financed. If you are a sponsored student you need to submit an original sponsor letter If you are sponsored by a Government or International Scholarship Agency the letter needs to include unconditional consent for you to remain in and re-enter the UK to ensure you get the full visa length possible. If you were officially sponsored by a Government or International Scholarship Agency in the last 12 months but are not anymore you need to include an original sponsor letter that states the details of your previous sponsorship. Your sponsor letter needs to give you consent to stay in or re-enter the UK to continue your studies.

Answer yes only if you are being sponsored by an official financial sponsor for the course for which you are applying. Answer no if you are using your own money or your parents money. If you are sponsored by the University of Manchester then this should be included in your CAS and you should answer My Tier 4 sponsor has confirmed this information on my CAS. If you are sponsored by an official sponsor which is not the University of Manchester then you need to select Letter of official financial sponsorship.

Answer yes to this question if you are using money from your own account, or if you are sponsored. If you are using a parent s bank account to support your application you should answer no If you are using a parent s account you must submit the financial evidence along with an original letter of consent from your parent and your original birth/ adoption certificate. Please see this financial guide for more information about using a parent s account.

The Doctorate Extension Scheme (DES) is a specific visa type for students about to complete a PhD. Please only answer yes if you are applying specifically for the Doctorate Extension Scheme visa. Please ensure you have contacted us previously about your Doctorate Extension Scheme application we can advise about this specific application in more detail and provide the necessary CAS.

You should only answer yes to this question if you are living in Halls of Residence which is owned by the University of Manchester and have paid money towards your accommodation fees and this is shown on your new CAS. If you have not paid towards your accommodation fees, or you are living in private accommodation then you must answer no to this question. If you have paid towards Universityowned accommodation and this is shown on your CAS you must answer My sponsor has confirmed this information on my CAS

This means one year of course fees if your course is longer than this. Your new CAS will confirm the exact amount you should use. If you have paid any course fees this needs to be confirmed by your CAS. Your CAS should be automatically updated to show any payments within 3 days of paying. If your CAS has not been updated please email CAStuitionfees@manchester.ac.uk If you have paid you need to choose My sponsor has confirmed this information on my CAS

You must answer yes to this question and include your new CAS reference number. If you submit a Tier 4 application without a new CAS it will be automatically refused. Please write the CAS number carefully to ensure it is entered correctly.

The application form will give you the chance to review your application at this point. Please check over your answers carefully. You can leave the form at any time and resume your application using the weblink you were emailed with. You can continue with the form and edit your answers until after the next section entitled Documents

The Differentiation Arrangement only refers to those who are considered to be low risk nationals by UKVI. This question will only appear in your application form if you are a national from a low-risk country. For more information see our webpage. If you are low-risk you do not need to include academic or financial evidence with your visa application (although you should have these available should the caseworker request the documents at a later date). To be considered low-risk you need to answer yes to this question.

This section should list the documents you need to provide, depending on your answers in the form. Please be aware that if you may need to submit documents that do not appear on this list as advised by our Team.

The Declaration is an electronic signature to say that you have completed the form accurately and meet the Tier 4 requirements. You cannot complete the application without confirming this.

You need to stop completing the application form on this page and then print out your draft application form. You must bring this draft form with your documents to the Student Services Centre. This is the last page of the application before it is locked and you can no longer make any changes. You must not go further than this page or pay anything until we have checked your application form and emailed you. You can download the PDF and print your final complete form by clicking on your name at the topright

After you submit your application to us at your visa Check and Send appointment we will email you with any corrections to make and tell you when and how to complete the rest of the application form. Do not continue with the application until we have emailed you.
