Page 2 of 5 Test Specimen Description: (Continued) Glazing Details: The active door panel and fixed side lites utilized 1/8" thick tempered glass. The glass was interior glazed against a bed of silicone and secured with a wood glazing bead. The glazing bead was fastened to the interior perimeters with 5/8" long brad nails spaced 1" from the corners and 6" on center. Active Door Panel Construction: The active door panel was constructed of wood members. The stiles were attached to the top and bottom rails utilizing wood glue and tongue and groove joints. A door sweep was attached to the bottom rail of the door utilizing two 3/16" by 1/2" "U" shaped staples two at each end and 10" on center. The door panel utilized three hinges located from the top of the door panel 9", 38", and 67". The hinges were attached to the door stile with four #8 x 1" Philips head wood screws per hinge and attached to a vertical mullion with two #8 x 1" and two #8 x 2-1/2" Philips head screws per hinge. Side Lite Panel Construction: The side lite panels were constructed of wood members. The stiles were attached to the top and bottom rails utilizing wood glue, tongue and groove joinery and dowel pins. The panels were attached to each jamb and vertical mullions with four #8 x 2-1/2" drywall screws spaced 6" from the top and bottom and 22" on center. The top rails were attached to the horizontal mullion with two #8 x 2-1/2" drywall screws 5" from ends. The bottom rails were attached to a snap-in vinyl up-stand threshold leg with silicone. The interior perimeter of both side lites were secured with a vinyl glazing bead and 1" brad nails 2" from ends and 10" on center. The exterior perimeter was sealed with silicone. Mullion Construction: The vertical mullions were constructed of wood members. The vertical mullions were attached to the threshold and the head with two #8 x 2-1/2" drywall screws each. Buck Installation: The test unit was installed into 1-1/2" plywood frame and secured with #8 x 2-1/2" drywall screws 6" from ends and 22" on center at the jambs. The head was secured with #8 x 2-1/2" drywall screws 5" from ends and 19" on center. The exterior #2 Spruce-Pine-Fir test buck was secured to the interior plywood frame with #8 x 3" drywall screws spaced 6" from the corners and 10" on center in a staggered pattern around the exterior perimeter. The exterior and interior perimeters were sealed with silicone.
