Introduction DOOR FURNITURE METHODOLOGY This catalogue has been compiled in response to the requirements of the Fire Precautions Act (Sub-Surface Railway Stations) Regulations1401:1989, The EC Construction Products Directive and the Loss Prevention Council s Loss Prevention Standard LPS 1175: Issue 3 Specification for testing and classifying the burglary resistance of building components, strong points and security enclosures. The catalogue must be read in conjunction with Section P21 Ironmongery of the project General Builderswork Specification which defines the performance criteria to be met. The specification of door furniture to be used on the Underground should meet the functional requirement of the room for which it is being specified. An Equipment Room with one access/means of escape will require a door that opens out, if into a public area has a vision panel and a panic function lock (not a panic bolt as for public means of escape). An office may require a mortise latch, mortise locking latch or dead bolt depending on the function, location and security requirement Lockcases are all mortised into the door leaf, rim locks offer little physical security and their use should be avoided. All lockcases are of steel construction, no component part shall have a melting point of less than 850c. The access, escape and security function of each lockcase is fully described. The hand required must be described as viewed from the hinge (butt) side of the door (LH/RH). Face fixed furniture has been catalogued in two varieties, grade 316 stainless steel for post war constructions and BMA gunmetal for pre-war, listed and heritage constructions. Options for the size of pull handle are given for specification according to door leaf size. Closers are shown to cater for the varying conditions with adjustable power sizes. The selection must be appropriate to the requirement. All closers shall be fitted to the non-public side of the door to prevent vandalism. Kicking plates are shown for pre and post war constructions. The selection must be appropriate for the chosen furniture. Barrel bolts inclusive of dust excluding sockets, frame sockets and top receiving plates are shown for use on the inactive leaf of double door sets. Hinges are shown; the number to be used on each door leaf is dependent on leaf size and weight. Design weight loading must be taken into consideration in conjunction with the selected closer. Furniture and signs shall be fitted to doors and frames in accordance with the included illustrations. Manufacturers and suppliers named within this catalogue are identified as capable of meeting the performance requirements described herein. The Part No. reference should be used in conjunction with a Door and Ironmongery Schedule. 5TH EDITION - 2013 Door Closer range expanded to accommodate selection by door width. New Collapsible Gate Devices added. A Digital Access Key Pad has been added for rooms not subject to public access and other Key pads updated. This edition has been prepared with assistance from Suppliers and Manufacturers without whose detailed understanding of functional requirements and knowledge of architectural ironmongery, assembly of this information would be extremely difficult. The catalogue covers standard door installations within the railway environment and associated auxiliary accommodation. For oversized or non-standard installations advice must be sought from the Discipline Design Engineer. Page 1
