Go Beyond Ongoing pursuit of piano quality that remains more than a step ahead Motivated by a desire to extend the pleasure of playing a musical instrument to as many people as possible, CASIO developed the first digital piano in 1986. Through the years since, we have consistently led the way in forwarding the evolution of the digital piano. This has meant pursuing sound quality that is virtually indistinguishable from an acoustic piano s, while building on the convenience and playing pleasure unique to digital instruments. In 2012, CASIO developed a new sound source system that has carried sound quality several steps ahead of that produced by ordinary digital pianos. Determined to satisfy users yearning for a grand piano experience, CASIO continues to define the future of the digital piano.

Digital Technologies, Acoustic Production of optimal resonance while playing with advanced digital technologies coustic and ntelligent esonator One of the chief attractions of the acoustic piano is its ability to produce countless subtle changes in tonal reverberation in response to delicate adjustments of the pianist s touch. CASIO s newly developed sound source faithfully reproduces these nuanced tonal variations unique to the piano. Not only the lingering reverberation from the time the sound starts until it dies away, but also the rich resonance of strings reverberating together, can be reproduced depending on the force with which the keys are struck. CASIO digital pianos enable pianists to play the same piece of music in innumerable styles, depending on their intended effect. Although digital, the pianos expressive power is on par with that of acoustic pianos. The optimal resonance produced by innovative LSI technologies proprietary to CASIO will win the hearts of piano lovers everywhere.

Technology Unprecedented Natural Reproduction of the Rich Expressive Power and Resonance of an Acoustic Piano Simulating the Delightfully Delicate Reverberation and Rounded Resonance Associated with Pianos [ Multidimensional Morphing AiR Source ] The characteristics of CASIO s newly developed Multidimensional Morphing AiR* Source reflect thorough attention to detail in expressing the rich, resonating tones inherent to the piano. The capacity of the installed memory has been expanded to achieve a longer sampling duration and enhanced waveform data quality. The temporal changes in tone that create sound you would expect only from a piano, beginning with the initial sound and leading into a beautiful extension until the sound eventually vanishes, are reproduced naturally. Even the length of the reverberation can be controlled at will by the player by adjustments in touch, as with an acoustic piano. Seamless variations that respond continuously to the power behind each stroke, not only in terms of volume but also in terms of the nuances of the sound itself, range from a fine, gentle ppp (pianississimo) to an intense, powerful fff (fortississimo). All 88 keys incorporate a stereo resonance simulator, moreover, that reproduces the string sounds of a grand piano remarkably realistically. The pleasure of listening to acoustic changes can be obtained by opening the grand pianolike lid installed on highend models (PX850, AP650M, AP450), which place a particular focus on sound output quality. These developments represent an unprecedented evolution of the digital piano s expressive power in the areas of both sound and resonance. Even temporal tonal changes are reproduced naturally. Volume / Timbre image New PCM data Conventional PCM data stereo resonance simulator structure The resonating string combinations differ with the strings struck When the C key is struck (single tone), the C string and the open treble strings resonate with each other. Damper Resonance String Resonance system achieving deep, rich resonance with 88 keys Soft sound Strong fff ff pressure f mf mp Time p pp ppp Weak More natural waveform data sampling with a higher capacity memory The sound produced by an acoustic piano is not only the sound associated with the keys that are struck. Other strings with frequencies closely associated with those producing the sounds resonate as well, adding their sound to give the music a uniquely rich resonance. In ordinary digital pianos, this string resonance effect is reproduced virtually with strings. The Multidimensional Morphing AiR sound source takes a different approach, however, by adopting a string resonance system incorporating a stereo resonance simulator for all 88 keys. The resonance of the 88 keys is reproduced completely and naturally. The resonance realized by playing a single tone is differentiated from that realized by playing a chord to reproduce the resulting variations in resonance in a natural manner. This even enables players to achieve varying resonances, controlling them at will by the strength of their touch, and thus to realize performances with the unique expressiveness of an acoustic piano. * PX850, AP650M and AP450 only The 4 stages of a grand piano s lid opening and closing have been investigated and imitated. The acoustic level achieved by a digital piano is determined by the capacity of the memory that stores sounds after sampling. A new highcapacity memory, boasting a capacity in excess of approximately three times our previous models (converted linearly), is installed for the Multidimensional Morphing AiR sound source. The waveform data sampling capacity has increased dramatically, enabling natural reproduction of the delicate changes in waveforms associated with concert grand pianos. The sound quality and resonance have achieved astonishing evolution, realizing an ability to produce simultaneous sounds comprising up to 256 notes in highend models (PX850, AP650M, AP450). Reproduced sound quality closely approaching the original sound [Lossless Audio Compression] Open strings String Resonance The size of the mark indicates the level of resonance. When keys are struck with the damper pedal pressed, their strings resonate along with other strings with vibration frequencies close to their harmonic overtone components, and the open treble strings resonate with them as well. Hard sound New sampling technology pursuing the ultimate expressive power of an acoustic piano source memory expanded to reproduce original sounds more naturally! 88key When the G, C and E keys are struck (chord), the strings associated with these keys resonate with each other, and the open treble strings resonate along with them. * AiR = Acoustic and Intelligent Resonator New sound source memory 88key stereo resonance simulator reproducing a deep acoustic piano resonance FullOpen Lid removed The deep, beautiful resonance resulting from the use of a damper pedal is also reproduced naturally by a stereo resonance simulator installed on all 88 keys, an approach that differs from conventional simulated reproduction employing effect processing. The attention to detail goes so far as to simulate the resonance created by the lifting of the dampers themselves when the pedal is pressed. A continuously variable system*2 has been adopted for the damper pedal, moreover, reproducing even the subtle changes in reverberation that occur in response to the delicate pressure exerted by partial pedal operation. This enables players to employ pedal operation to achieve gracefully expressive performances. *1 PX850, AP650M and AP450 models offer 4 adjustment levels. *2 PX850, AP650M and AP450 only Equalizing technology pursuing the acoustic balance of a grand piano With an acoustic piano, the strings vibrations are amplified by the soundboard, generating sound from throughout the instrument. CASIO s new equalizing system imparts a unique sensation of threedimensional depth and creates a natural sound space. It represents yet another advance in the pursuit of optimal sound and playing pleasure. Lid Simulator reproducing the sound effects resulting from an open lid Patent pending (Japan) Digital pianos normally compress and record sound waveform data in their builtin memory. This data is then expanded and played back when recalled. As in the case of compressed audio data such as MP3, therefore, the playedback sound simply cannot avoid deterioration with respect to the original sound. But the advanced Lossless Audio Compression technology adopted for CASIO s Multidimensional Morphing AiR sound source has made it possible to reproduce sounds without this deterioration of the original sound quality. This permits enjoyment of musical performances with acoustics that are immeasurably closer to natural piano sounds. Damper Resonance*1 achieving a more naturally beautiful resonance than a pedal SemiOpen Closed The sound volume and quality change when the lid on a grand piano is raised or lowered. The Lid Simulator reproduces the same acoustic effects for enhanced enjoyment with a digital piano. The acoustic effects of opening and closing the lid are simulated in fine detail. The piano sound you are seeking as you play is always available for your enjoyment by selecting the degree to which the lid is raised or lowered. * PX850, AP650M and AP450 only * The Lid Simulator setting value remains unchanged, regardless of whether the lid on the piano body is open or closed. 5 * The contents of pages 38 do not refer to models CDP220RBK and CDP120BK. * Illustrations and graphs are conceptual images for reference purposes only. 6

System Design & Natural Playing Feel Approaching That of a Grand Piano A Fusion of Acoustic Piano Beauty Firm Touch That Converts the Player s Thoughts into with Digital Piano Playing Fun Trisensor Scaled Hammer Action II, with a grand piano s unique sounding timing The difference between the sound structures of a grand piano and a digital piano appears as a difference in timing, from the moment the instrument is played until the sound is audible. The new Trisensor Scaled Hammer Action II responds by incorporating a system with three sensors that detect keystrokes sequentially. This permits minute variations in the time between detection of a keystroke and sound production, depending on the speed of the keystroke. The sensor system also enables a sound to be produced continuously, even when the key has not fully returned to its resting position, a feature assuring excellent playability when the same note is struck repeatedly. Also as in a grand piano, moreover, the action mechanism relies solely on the weight of the hammer, with absolutely no springs employed, thus providing both a definite playing response and a smooth touch. The keys become progressively heavier as the sound becomes lower and progressively lighter as the sound becomes higher, faithfully simulating this characteristic of a grand piano. sensors are installed to match a grand piano s keyboard action. Patent pending (Japan) Hammer Response reproducing even differences in sounding timing among key blocks The sizes of the hammers that strike the strings differ among the various key blocks in a grand piano. The sounding timing consequently varies subtly, even when keys are struck with the same strength. The new keyboard system carefully reproduces these differences in sound production timing from one register to another. It even simulates the differences in sound production timing according to the force with which a key is struck. String struck The sizes of the hammers that strike the strings differ among key blocks. Key struck Three The period between the time a keystroke is detected and the sounding response occurs is controlled by the strength of the keystroke. ing occurs when playing ends. Striking a key, and 3 sensors detect the action sequentially. Privia pursuing smart functional beauty & CELVIANO adopting the standard piano s inherently beautiful form Key Off Simulator reproducing tonal variations resulting from finger release The lengths of the reverberations and expressions a piano produces vary depending on the speed at which players release their fingers after touching the keys. The new keyboard system incorporates a Key Off Simulator that reproduces these nuances resulting from key release naturally. Authentic reverberations that feel just like those of a grand piano are expressed as a result. * PX850, AP650M and AP450 only Slow key release Key release Fast key release Key release The lightweight, compact body has been refined further to enhance Privia s functional beauty. The original external styling presents a sharp, slimlined image possible only with electronic instruments. Other attractive features include a selection of colors to match any home interior. The lineup even includes keyboardstyle models that can be played on a tabletop or transported to another venue for virtually unlimited playing freedom. CELVIANO was conceived and developed with unprecedented attention to such details as creation of a substantial body structure with a luxurious feel based on a design concept adopted from the elegant form of a grand piano. The wood surface exudes a warm ambience. The rich body coloring has been chosen for its lasting appeal and its superior ability to coordinate with virtually any refined interior. Closely resembling a piano, with an elegant form and a lid that can be opened or closed The external design features a lid on the upper portion of the body that can be opened or closed. The elegant structural beauty inspires pride in piano ownership. Pianists can enjoy changes in acoustics and sound dispersion, moreover, by opening and closing the lid, much like the lid on a grand piano. * PX850, AP650M and AP450 only * The Lid Simulator setting value remains unchanged, regardless of whether the lid on the piano body is open or closed. Heavy Low Notes Touch High Notes Light Photo shows AP650MBK. Long reverberation Short reverberation Simulated ebony and ivory keys with optimal fingertip fit for playing ease The simulated ebony and ivory keys offer the luxurious feel and texture as well as the smooth touch of a grand piano keyboard. The minutely detailed crimp surface finish inhibits finger slippage due to sweat and gives the sensation of a perfect fingertip fit, even when playing for extended periods. Various functions supporting lessons and performances Use of AUDIO RECORDING to record performances and teach lessons A piano performance can be recorded in digital format on USB flash drive using a port on the piano body. This not only permits playback of recorded performances, but the recordings can also be used to accompany a pianist during performances. The digital sound data can also be played back on a PC using standard audio file playback software. * PX850, PX350M, AP650M and AP450 only 7 * The contents of pages 38 do not refer to models CDP220RBK and CDP120BK. * Illustrations and graphs are conceptual images for reference purposes only. Photo shows PX350MBK. Identical ranges Identical tonal ranges can be set to the right and left of center on the keyboard. This Duet Mode is convenient when two players, such as a parent and child or a teacher and student, are practicing together. PX850, PX750, PX150, AP450 and AP250 models are equipped with two GRAND PIANO mode buttons and an ELEC PIANO mode button that are selectable in a single operation, depending on the music to be played or the pianist s personal preference. The PX350M and AP650M feature a Tone Select button that makes it easy to choose a tone from the abundant available selection. The Metronome Function and Recording Function come in handy when practicing the piano. The Music Library is both an excellent listening resource and a useful tool for lessons. (Musical score collection bundled* with models except PX350M.) * Some musical scores may not be included due to copyright issues. The Layer Function enables players to overlap two types of tones, while the Split Function can be used to separate tones into lower and higher blocks. The operation Lock feature is designed to prevent unintentional setting changes by locking the button operations. Auto Power Off is a practical feature that prevents wasteful electric power consumption by shutting off the power automatically when no operation has been conducted for a certain period of time. 8
