TASK 1 When to use solid timber What are some of the benefits of solid timber? What are some of the problems with solid timber? sizes What is the smallest width and thickness of timber you can buy? What is the largest width and thickness of timber you can buy? Buying timber What is the difference between lineal meters and cubic meters? Lineal measure Multiply the price per section size by the number of lineal metres (Lm). Example: with a section size 100 x 25 costs $5.50 per lineal metre. If you need 2.4 m, this will cost 2.4 x $5.50 = $13.20. Cubic metre measure this method works out the volume in cubic metres (m3), to the nearest 0.001m3. Volume = Width (mm) x Thickness (mm) x Length (m) 1,000,000 = Cubic metres Which unit of measurement would you use when buying a piece of piece of timber from the hardware store?
