Cyberspace Rules of the Road O Let s watch the a Public Service Announcement from Phineas & Ferb! O The Cyberspace Rules of the Road O Now let s get a little more serious... O Internet Rules of the Road for Kids

10 Rules for Internet Safety 1. Guard your privacy O What people know about you is up to you. A secret you tell one person can be forwarded to many others! 2. Protect your reputation. O What other people know about you is up to you. What s funny today can embarrass you tomorrow.

3. Nothing is private online. O Anything you say or do can (and will be) be copied, pasted, and sent to gazillions of people without your permission. 4. Assume everyone is watching. O There s a huge audience out there. If someone is your friend s friend, they can see everything.

5. Be nice. O Apply the Golden Rule. If you don t want it done to you, don t do it to someone else. 6. Watch the clock & balance your life. O A real soccer game beats one on your Xbox, Playstation, WiiU, or whatever. Besides, your parents will flip out (in a good way) if they see you turning off your computer or electronic device and playing outside with friends instead.

7. Choose wisely. O When you search for certain words (you know what they are), you often find more than you bargained for. Be smart how you search. 8. Don't hide. O Using a fake name to hide your actions doesn t turn you into a trustworthy, responsible person.

9. Think about what you see. O O Just because it s online doesn t make it true. For example... O Dihydrogen Monoxide & Tree Octopus 10. Be smart, be safe. O Not everyone is who they say they are. But you know that already, right?

Internet Security

Passwords O Keep your passwords private, even from your best friend! Yes... You can (and should) tell your parents your password! O Make your password hard to figure out!

Personal Info O Make sure your log-in name or screen name does not contain your real name. O Never give out personal info such as: O Your full name O Home address O Home or cell phone number O Your birthday O or any other info that could identify you and where you live.

Photos O Don't share photos of yourself, your family, or your home with people you strangers you meet online. It is called the WORLD Wide Web or a reason you know... O Remember photos can also be downloaded or edited by those who view them. O Depending on where you post them you are giving that site ownership of YOUR photos.

SPAM & Viruses O Always ignore or just delete SPAM email messages. O These kinds of messages can contain destructive viruses or lead you to websites that contain them. Just clicking on the link is enough to set in motion damage you may not be able to undo. O Make sure you and your family has good virus protection software and firewall!

Website Ads & Banners O Do not click on Ads and Banners on websites, especially those claiming you won something or can get something for free! O These can also contain destructive viruses, or links to websites that have them. Many of these will open and run automatically without your knowledge.

Privacy O Remember that nothing you post out there in the electronic world is completely private. Nothing. O Be careful and think about what you put out there for others to see and who you tell. O Sorry to say, your best friend might not always be your best friend... O Not to mention saying sorry to the friend you hurt with your words may not forgive you.

Online Friends O Not everyone is as nice, cute, and funny as they may sound online. O Never make plans to meet an online only "friend" in person.

When In Doubt O When in doubt always ask your parents, teachers, or another trusted adult for help. O It s what we are here for! O Remember to have P.R.I.D.E. in what you do while you are involved in the online world!

Privacy Checklist Activity O The United States has laws intended to protect and private information of kids who are 13 and younger. O This law is called the Children s Online Privacy and Protection Act.

Privacy Checklist Activity O Let s look at a few websites to see if they care about YOUR privacy... O Club Penguin O DIY O Maggie s Earth Adventures O Nickelodeon
