Newton Suites Residential Tower 60 Newton Road Singapore Architects WOHA Architects Pte Ltd / R Hassell, W M Summ Singapore Clients UOL Development Singapore Commission 2003 Design 2003-2004 Construction 2004-2007 Occupancy 2007 Site 3,842 m 2 Ground floor n.a. Total floor 3842 m 2 Costs 17,029,000 USD Programme This 36-storey apartment block offers a new paradigm for high-rise development in South-East Asia. With cantilevered communal sky gardens, creepers climbing the full height of the stairwell, and planted common areas on the roof of the adjacent car park, there is now more planting than if the site had been left vacant. There are many simple, lowcost energy-saving solutions: projecting sun shades animate the facades, generous balconies provide outdoor rooms, and, with openings on three of their four sides, the apartments are naturally ventilated. The result counters the smooth-skinned Western high-rise with a permeable three-dimensional interface between interior and exterior. Building Type Housing 2010 Award Cycle 3504.SIN
