OBJECTIVES of the enermena program enermena (since 2009) follows the DESERTEC concept and supports the sustainable implementation of concentrating solar power plant technology in Europe and MENA by Improvement of TECHNOLOGY Development of PEOPLE capacities Support of PROJECT DEVELOPMENT activities Towards a Sustainable Implementation of Solar Thermal Power Plants Technology in the MENA DLR initiative, supported by the German Federal Foreign Office Graphics: Desertec Foundation

CAPACITY BUILDING program ii University students internships Need: Practical training of students on CSP related measuring and testing facilities 2-week DLR Internships for students (summer schools) organized at the Plataforma Solar de Almería PSA 09/2012 PSA 06/2013 PSA 06/2014

CAPACITY BUILDING program iii Field Engineers and Technicians Need: Establish CSP technical expert teams in the partner countries Teams mainly responsible for - Technical optimization of the existing and planned power plants - Organization of training courses for technical staffs in their countries (Train-the-Trainers). Actions - Each country team provided with a mobile laboratory. - Technical training courses organized at PSA and CSP plants - Long term support by DLR experts em-cb01: PSA in Almeria 11/2010. em-cb02: Technopole, Tunis 11/2011 em-cb03: Kuraymat CSP, Egypt 09/2012 em-cb04: PSA in Almeria 12/2013

SUMMARY - DLR has been working on the basis of constructive and long-term cooperation for over 4 years in the MENA region - A network of over 50 partners from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, EU and Germany has been created - The Capacity Building Program, based on train the trainer, is tailored for different target groups - Teaching materials for universities and video tutorials are available and tested - DLR supports the creation of own R&D infrastructure The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is invited to benefit from the DLR expertise
